Do you ever just feel too tired from every day life to play games?

Feel as if I am only going to completely quit gaming now. I will always keep my favorites such as the Ape Escape trilogy, Ratchet and Clank series, first Jak and Daxter, etc.. But I really am starting to get exhausted. Getting older has a lot to do with that, but I also am simply bored of them. I need some 1890's wine to drink as I hate this lief and even moreso this damn planet.
 
Yeah, I've had to bin off a bunch of loves because of the lack of time. 2 kids absorb a lot of it.

Where I do have time it is mainly playing a game on iOS - so maybe an FF7 here or a Kairosoft game there. Although I tend to get dragged into playing clickers because... I can absentmindedly listen to music while doing so. I have to review a whole host of stuff so something I can do with music on the go works for me.

I've had to bin off mixing as well as a lot of gaming too, I just don't have the time to get myself in gear for it.
 
Nah. The only days I don't play are when I'm spending time with my girlfriend / friends, or have a hangover from the latter. Watching TV passively tires me more than playing games, which is why I don't do it that much during the week. It's also the joy of not having kids, and having more time for yourself.
 
Right now I dont feel like playing Persona 5 (or anything else) because I'm still reeling from Automata... the other reason is I get burnt out on games and would rather kick back and would rather do anything else to relax. I take long video game breaks a couple times a year
 
It's pretty the same as with sports/ cooking/ cleaning etc.

Yes, life and work/ studying can be tiring. But once you push yourself to go outside and work-out or make some time to cooke a proper meal, you'll feel more energetic afterwards.

I feel the same about video games. I can be totally knackered after a workday, but either playing a game or working out makes me feel more energetic then just sitting down on the couch and calling it a day.
 
Hell yes. Happens too damn often for me.

Fortunately I still am able to "force" myself to pay attention to a game that I really am looking forward to.

Fighting games are the best for me since matches are short and sweet and I'm generally able to concentrate unless I'm very sleepy.
 
Yeah gets me all the time which is frustrating. The solution is just start to play a game and everything will start to flow again. It's like coming home and not having the energy to do some sports, but that is bullshit. Don't sit down immediately and you won't have that most of the time.
 
Happens... it's really annoying, when there is something new, and I'm just like falling asleep while playing...

I think of it the same as exercising. If I don't do exercise or playing video games after work I feel ashamed and full of regret the next day. If I force myself to get hyped and do some meaningful things in the game even for just an hour and the same for exercise, I'll feel much better the next day. Closing Facebook and Twitter helps a lot.
 
Yep. Worse now because my total travel time each day for work is over 2 hours, sometimes nearly 3 if transport is trash. So it doesn't leave much time for a lot of things really.

I could play some handheld stuff on the train but I don't always get a seat and I don't enjoy it as much. And then I usually start dozing off after 10 minutes staring at a screen whilst on transport too.

Looking forward to retirement. That's most realistic...
 
This is basically my problem right now. I'd rather sit and watch people play a game on Twitch than put any effort into actually playing because I'm always so tired from RL crap
 
Its getting hard for me to complete games now, 90% are feeling repetitive or a chore to play, I'm rarely having fun when I play alot games that I just rather play nothing at all. But Zelda boftw is a game that I'm enjoying every time I play it, which is rare now in days. I Put Yakuza 0 and Persona 5 on hold because those 2 started to feel like a grind, played persona for 10 hours and still on the first castle.. But I always want to buy new games to try new stuff because I'm getting bored of a lot of games quick.
 
It happens and it's normal, at least with multiplayer competitive games that require fast thinking and reflexes, when you are are "a little grown up" like me.

When I have hard days at work I already know that I can't go multiplayer.
 
This is the reason why I love games like DotA 2, Rocket League, PUBG, FIFA 17.. etc

There is very little investment required for a play session and everyone starts off on a level playing field (maybe not fifa so much)

I cant stand games like Battlefield, LoL or any MMO because they require time investment to unlock things.
 
Very often these days. Never had this issue when I was younger, but in recent years it's been getting progressively worse, which has resulted in an absolutely massive backlog of must-play titles. I do tend to overcompensate on most free days.
 
Yeah. I started learning Japanese half way through last year and I've been putting a couple hours into that every day since then.

Technically I would have a bit of time to play video games but I've barely played anything since then...

After being at uni all day, doing some exercise and studying studying some Japanese I'm just exhausted and don't really feel like playing anything anymore :/

I suppose once I get to a point where I can play games in Japanese I'll play a bit more again, since playing games will double as studying. But until then I probably won't really play much.
 
Definitely. It's weird cos sometimes feeling tired from day to day work, being social etc. is exactly why I feel like playing games. Other times I feel too washed out to do anything. Frustrating when I plan to play something in particular because it not only means I'm tired but end up feeling like I've wasted my limited free time.

Feeling anxious seems to go into turbo mode when I'm tired so that does impact on being able to play games at all sometimes, or at least affecting the kind of games I feel capable of engaging with (particularly feeling too tired and anxious to play open world or big story focused games that I want to progress in).
 
Quite often, yeah.

I keep trying to push myself to play but I often regret it and think I'd have been better off watching a couple of episodes of something on Netflix then falling asleep.
 
Happened a lot to me definitely when the game has a long load time. It's the main reason I abandon Wii actually.

I can't play text heavy game either. So I usually resort to simple game where failing is not critical.
 
Nutshell - I need more games to come to iOS and also to get a Switch. Being tethered to a TV isn't convenient for my life anymore.
 
Sometimes i do. Sometimes, i put a game on and play it for 5 minutes or so before i turn it off as i'm just too tired to play. So i put Netflix on and binge watch something for a while before bed.
 
Kind of. I work 12 hour shifts 4 days a week and I have no energy to play on those days. But on my days off I play at least 6 hours.

Yes OP, this is me. Even more since I leveled up for being a dad ;)
So at the end of the day I'm mostly too tired to play most (AAA) games because they often are just a chore to play especially if they're difficult, challenging and/or require quick reactions (i.e. Bloodborne, FPS etc.)

Switch is a godsend to me because I can play more while commuting and most games for it thus far a fun and relaxing. Snake Pass was a lot of fun even after 9pm, but so is Shovel Knight, Super Bomberman R, Graceful Explosion Machine, Blaster Master Zero or Snipperclips. Yes, even BotW while at times challenging is overall very relaxing to play. All of them thus far are just perfect entertainment after a long day and also for short bursts which don't feel like 'work'.
 
Not only I'm tired most evenings, but the TV is almost always in use when I'm at home. Gaming to me nowadays is mostly multiplayer games on PS4 (R6S, Tf2) and anything that goes on the Switch. I gave up gaming on phones and tablets for the moment being.
 
Too tired for anything these days.

If I have a spare few hours I'm more likely to spend it looking for a movie to watch... Search though the Prime or Netflix, sometimes the dvd cupboard, for 45 minutes or more, find nothing worth my time, leave the channel on whatever it was on and pick up my phone...

Yeah since my new full-time job I've hardly any time for gaming now. I don't play as many different games at once as I used to be. Only the really good ones can keep now my attention like Horizon for example which I play over a month now.
 
Yep, every day. I spend 9+ hours at work behind a monitor, doing tasks that require a lot of thinking. When I'm at home, I start Witcher 3 but I can't enjoy that game in the short 2 hours that I have because my head is just too tired to dive deep enough into that great world. So the gaming becomes enjoyable only on weekends.
 
It isn't that I'm too tired to play a game sometimes but rather not motivated enough to boot x game up over y game. For me it's more "why should I play x game when I can just play y instead?"
 
Wouldn't say I'm ever too tired. Time can be more of a constraint if I have things to do around the house but thanks to my shift patterns that's rare.

I had 4 straight days off this week and all I have done is 1 hour on Zelda :(

Playing games feels like work to me now.
 
Every weekday there is this talking cat preventing me from doing anything at night.

Seriously though, if I am dead tired for the day, I'd rather sleep. If I push on playing, the next day would be hell for sure.

Its just easier to fall asleep while reading gaf than playing a game.
 
Yes, but that's why I have various hobbies.

Reading books, listening to music, playing the piano/drums, singing and watching movies.

Variety always spices up life.
 
I am like this 95% of the time. It feels like a chore to do even though, most times, I do enjoy playing once I make the effort. I spend all day at a PC screen doing programming so I feel utterly tired and drained by the end of the working day. My attention just isn't there when I am tired which makes me completely useless at playing.

Gaming requires far, far more effort than sitting in front the TV/monitor watching stuff so I go for the easier option.

I still buy too many games in Steam sales just to add to my ever-growing backlog of never-to-be-played games.
