Do you feel sorry for certain sports fans in which they're stuck with shitty teams?

Being a fan is about going through the good and the bad times.

It shouldn't be.

I'm an Eagles/Knicks fan. I would never switch from the Eagles, as I feel the management is actually pretty good. We just get unlucky with QBs that make terrible decisions. As for the Knicks, I've been looking for a new basketball team for awhile now. This management is a joke and it will always be a joke as long as James Dolan is alive.

First and foremost you should be a fan of the sport. If your hometown team can't/won't deliver you a watchable product, pick a different team. I'm not saying bandwagon every season, but choose a new team. You don't even have to choose a good team. When I decided to be an Eagles fan they weren't even good.

I definitely agree. It's more fun that way.

From what I know, Orlando FL, Memphis, TN, San Antonio, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Portland, OR, Salt Lake City, UT, Sacramento, CA, & Auburn Hills, MI only has Basketball,

Calgary, Alberta (Canada), Edmonton, Alberta (Canada), Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada), Winniped, Mantioba (Canada), Montreal, Quebec (Canada), Ottawa, Ontario (Canada), San Jose, CA, Saint Paul, MN, Buffalo, NY, Sunrise, FL, Raleigh, NC, Columbus, OH, Newark, NJ, & Uniondale, NY only has Hockey,

East Rutherford, NJ, Orchard Park, NY, Foxborough, MA, Jacksonville, FL, Landover, MD, Green Bay, WI, & Santa Clara, CA only has Football (East Rutherford has both the Jets & the Giants), &

St. Petersburg, FL, & San Francisco, CA only has Baseball.

The rest of the cities have about between 2 to 3 professional sports (depending where you are), with Denver, CO, Philadelphia, PA, & Chicago, IL being the only three cities to have all 4 professional sports (with Chicago having an additional Baseball team).

You forgot Phoenix, They have all 4 also. Suns, D-backs, Coyotes and Cardinals.

Whatever it's the NBA (Basketball), the NHL (Hockey), MLB (Baseball), MLS (Soccer), or the NFL (Football), do you feel bad for certain sports fans, knowing that they're stuck with some of the most shittest teams ever?

Examples: Oakland, California: The NFL fans living there are being stuck with the Oakland Raiders as their football team.
Or in Jacksonville, Florida in which NFL fans living there are stuck with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Or in Tampa, Florida in which NFL fans living there are stuck with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Just my opinion, of course.
Oakland loves their team. I dare you to walk around Oakland and tell people that the Raiders suck.

I'm a miserable Cubs fan.

I've also witnessed the greatest NBA player of all-time.
The greatest 7 year run in the NBA of all-time, with the best record of all-time.
The greatest running back of all-time.
The greatest return specialist of all-time.

And now I get to witness one of the best dynasties in the modern day NHL.

New Orleans Saints fan here. Much more misery than happiness but 2009 made it all worth it.
now they suck again and it feels like old times.

You can choose your pro sports team but not your own national team.

Screw you Thailand football national team.

Why I was not born in the country that know how to play football.

Even the team crest look a lot more like dolphin not elephant like the creator intend.

Wait what? Are you saying that the bills aren't Buffalo's football team because the stadium is in orchard park? Or the patriots arent Boston's football team because the stadium is outside the city in foxborough?

Nope, never said that at all. Just going by the current locations of where they're at. :)

I do feel sorry for someone who is born and raised with shitty sports teams (i.e. Leaveland, the state of Minnesota).

However, I can never feel sorry ever, under no circumstance for someone who "chooses" a team when they are good, and gets upset when that team starts sucking. Honestly, what the fuck is wrong with you. If you are this way, you need to seriously evaluate your life and seek psychological help.

This is particularly upsetting for a number of reasons. I was born in raised in Green Bay (home of the NFL's greatest franchise, the Green Bay Packers), but there are a staggering number of folks who choose to root for the Bears, Lions, Vikings, etc... As a white girl would say, I just can't even.

How anyone can justify this is just so fucking beyond me. It's like hating your parents, but not only that, loving someone else's parents. Parents that you never met, that you'll never really know.

Sometimes I do especially if its a team that never seems to win even when they have good teams (thinking mostly of Cleveland here).

Trail Blazers reached the second round of the NBA playoffs last season for the first time in 14 years! Considering Portland has only a single pro-team to root for, it was a HUGE deal! =)

I feel sorry for cities with no teams - even bad ones lol.

No, I don't feel sorry for them because in proper sports systems in Europe, the bad teams are relegated to a lower division so they have a chance against other bad teams. Suddenly they have the chance to be in the top of their league and play for the chance of winning the promotion.

I just started watching football, and for some inexplicable reason I started rioting for the Bears. I don't even know why, but having ignored support for the better part of my life I now know what being part of the losing side feels like.

I only feel sorry for people from Cleveland.

I'm a Houston fan. We've had our moments, but overall, heartache. Still, sticking it out with shitty teams is just what you have to do. It's what being a fan is. I rather stick it out with them than be one of those rooting for a team that I have no actual connection to just because they're popular.

No one is stuck with any team. Team loyalty is this stupid ass concept created by fans to try and give themselves worth.

We live in a world where you can watch other teams. So do it. This blind loyalty doesn't exist in any other part of life except sports.

You're a
former
Man U fan aren't you?

I love football (association), good thing that i grew up watching European teams and I got to pick which ones to root for.
Also, when i was younger i used to watch and play a lot of baseball and never had a team to root for until I moved to Kansas City about two and a half years ago and decided to root for the Royals and i wouldnt regret that decision. Not big into MLS, but i enjoy watching Sporting KC play from time to time.

Also tried to watch American Football but no luck, that sport is too ad plagued and not as competitive as Rugby or Football, so I dont really care for it.

Of course not, they choose what team to support.
I would feel sorry for the actual team that keeps losing- it's gotta suck trying so hard and continuously failing. But then I remember the ridiculous amount of money most of them get payed to play a game, and don't.

It's about the thrill and the ride with your team and following them through out the years
joy, tears, laughs, anguish, disappointment and excitement all guaranteed no matter where your team resides in the league table.

as for me:

Nah, I feel sorry for sportsfans who become fan of a club because of it's trophy-cabinet.

Support your locals.

Support your locals.

what if your local team IS the one with the full trophy cabinet?

And it's funny how you can come and dictate what people can or can't support (based on if the team is their local or not). No fun allowed?

I think people can support whatever team they want and have fun
I agree no one can take a fan who jump ship seriously as a certain team fan but they are still people who follow the sport and you can have fun sharing it with them

Soccer

I feel sorry for fans of great European clubs who are no longer able to compete at the highest level because of the commercial strength, or lack of, of their domestic league.

I am thinking about clubs like Ajax, Celtic and Benfica (and there are others of course). Great clubs with a rich histories and worldwide fanbases who have contributed so much to the sport. But because of the wealth other leagues now have - they are simply not in a position to be competitive at the level they once were.

It must suck for them to see clubs like Manchester City buying their way into the European Cup whose fans are then not even bothered about it.

I don't think this will ever change now, sadly. Would be amazing if one of those clubs won the European Cup again though.

No I respect them. They are REAL fans/supporters.

Yeah, misremembered and edited that. I still think teams in suburbs should be counted as part of the main city they're from, but I don't know if Santa Clara is a suburb of San Jose or San Francisco.

Santa Clara is adjacent to SJ but around 45 minutes from SF. Regardless, they're still the SF 49ers. If we start refusing to adhere to team names and only call them where they actually play then you can't have any New York football teams, no Washington football team, no Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, and so on.

SF has football, baseball, and the new Warriors arena. The Warriors now are as close as the Niners to SF and the Sharks of the NHL are nearly as close. It's better just to count the Bay Area as a 4 sport area.

It's almost as if one can't be a fan of teams that aren't local.

I didn't see anyone saying that.
