as I sit here savoring my Frito pie and ice cream, I can't help but wonder how many of you still get the ice cream truck rolling down your street.

my street has several trucks that roll down every day & night. makes me happy seeing a bit of healthy competition.

does he visit you? I've always wondered if this is more of a regional thing, or whether everyone gets ice cream trucks.

Nope. Live on a quiet residential street. The only thing that comes around occasionally (probably gone by now as I dont think it's come around for years)...... DING DING DING! A truck goes around seeing if anyone has lawnmower blades or garden shears needing sharpening.

As a kid, we used to get Dickie Dees and Good Humor teens on bikes selling popsicles for 50 cents. That was the 80s and maybe 90s. That shit all disappeared long time ago. Maybe they went broke. I remember awesome strawberry shortcake, bloody dracula, and the ghost with a gumball as a nose.

In the summertime we have one in our (German) neighborhood, he's Italian, they make the good stuff.

In sicily we have different types of ice cream trucks, they don't sell pre-packaged ice creams, they sell this stuff and they are around all year, not jist in the summer, believe it or not, a lot of people eat cold things with cold weather :messenger_open_mouth:

If you go in full piggy mode, we have one called ferrari that is basically 1 brioche with ice cream inside fused with another brioche with ice cream inside and covered in whipped cream, lizzo was 50 kg before eating one of those...

There used to be an Ice Cream truck that passed by my street, maybe a decade ago.
But it didn't sell individual ice-creams. It sold packs, with a ton of variety. It was great and it was cheaper that way.
So I usually bough enough for a month and put then in a big freezer we had in the house.
But eventually, it just stopped coming by. Don't know the reason, maybe it wasn't selling enough to maintain the service.

I actually have ours come down the driveway. It is abou 600 to 700 feet long and he drives down every Thursday to sell.

We missed last night because we were at soccer but I have it on video.

Constantly. One regular one and one that you have to order by app hours in advance.

^you literally can not approach this truck with $20 and walk away with ice cream. It’s the dumbest shit. They drive around the neighborhood playing the music too. Like if it’s by appointment only and you don’t accept what are you playing music for?

i can't remember the last time i seen (or heard) one. used to get them all the time as a kid in the 90s but seems like they disappeared. i've heard some people mention them so they must still be around but i haven't seen any for a long time.

We get a couple every now and then. Some are legit trucks with all the usual sundaes and whatnot, others are more sketch with basically an igloo cooler in the back of a SUV and some magnetic signs on the doors.

And a knife sharpening guy, that would be awesome. I'm not great at getting all the right angles across all my various types of knives.

My grandma used to have a dairy guy so she'd get a quart of milk, some butter and eggs, maybe some bread and bacon delivered every few days. Wish I could get enough neighbors interested in a service like that to make it feasible.

Nope and Im not so keen on buying from one either. Those trucks dont have permanent cooling and defrosting and refrosting stuff is..not very healthy.

Very occasionally. They aren't as common as they used to be.

When I was at uni in Scotland, there was an ice-cream van that used to go around in the depths of winter in the evenings. Needless to say, it wasn't just ice-cream they were selling...
