I LOVED the first movie. It’s the only movie saw three times in a theater because I felt like I had been transported to another world. That was a terrific feeling for a jaded movie goer like me.

I saw Avatar like 4 times in the theater, so needless to day I'm seeing this in imax 3D and will likely see it a second time. Regardless of plot, there is usually enough cinematic wizardry in his films to merit repeat viewing.

I thought the first film was okay, but I’m a fan of Cameron in general and will watch anything he directs. Already purchased my IMAX 3D tickets.

I have been waiting for this, but Cameron has made me anxious recently:

The actual interview is here. And the actual quote in full:
It may also be that his era of F-bomb-laden shouting matches with executives is behind him. “A lot of things I did earlier, I wouldn’t do — career-wise and just risks that you take as a wild, testosterone-poisoned young man,” he says, declining to specify further. “I always think of [testosterone] as a toxin that you have to slowly work out of your system.”

I was bored through the first movie, which I did see in theaters. I am not excited for the sequels. I will not be watching these.

Absolutely 100 %. A new James Cameron movie needs to be experienced on the big screen. It's also a sequel and we all know how good this man is when it comes to those.

Since when is being cartoonish or having a simple plot a bad thing? Disney prints money by remaking the same super hero movie and nauseum with only the latex suits changing. It also got away with basically re hashing the OT of star wars to massive profit. Let's not even get into the stagnation of the video game industry and it's endless parade of remakes and half assed remasters.

The original Avatar embraced the best that film could do at the time to present a gorgeous film. The landscapes and imagery were mind-blowing at the time. Especially if you saw the film in then nascent 3D. Avatar doesn't crack my top 20 films but I still take pleasure in watching it from time to time. Cameron knows how to make accessible films which look amazing. Avatar 2 is poised to be more of the same. I'm going to see the sequel with my family with good odds of having a solid night out. What more can you ask of mainstream cinema?

Thanks for posting that.

But is chill(er, I doubt he has calmed down much) Cameron the best Cameron? Lets be honest, they are making movies. Can I really get bent out of shape if he is paying actors millions (many thousands at least) to be in be cold, in water, up late at night? Never bitch at the crew, naturally, but the Cameron thrill ride has produced some of the very best in cinematic hoistory, his rep is well known, and everyone there is basically on board with the process because dammit, the end results does justify the process in my mind. It's like going to Ranger School or something. Those 3 months are gonna SUCK BALLS but you knew that and the flip side is worth it.

He was nailing crew cell phones to the wall as recently as 2007. Guy was a walking talking nuclear bomb for decades.
To be fair to Cameron, in 2007 a cell phone was basically a luxury item and a total distraction, not the 100% ESSENTIAL TO LIFE device it is today :p

The first never wowed me, I actually watched it quite late in IMAX much later after its Oscars win during its run.
I recall everyone in the office was gushing about it at the time so I had high expectations. The visuals were good but the story was quite run of the mill.

That being said, I took my parents recently to see the original in IMAX so I will be taking them again for the sequel.
It is for the visuals and to be part of the group. :)

I liked the first one, thought it was great visually and really the smartest use of 3D.

However, in general, I've made the decision not to to watch movies in the cinema. There really isn't much of a point, I don't really enjoy the experience, I always have to pee in the middle, there are annoying ppl to deal with sometimes or worst, kids.

I will go to watch the Super Mario Bros. movie tho, prob gonna hate the experience, but will do because I won't want to wait for it to come out on streaming.

I wasn't able to see the first on in the theaters only on 3D Blu ray, I'll be seeing the sequel just to check out the tech.

I saw the first one in IMAX. It was a visually stunning experience. But the story/characters/plot/etc was not so great or even memorable.

I’ll definitely watch Avatar 2, but probably when it hits streaming services. I like going to the movie theaters around me, but I usually only go if I’m really hyped to see something. Or if my friends/family want to go.

No... I am little tired of seeing movies basically saying how humans (mostly white westerners) destory the world and native culture is always better, living in harmony with the nature.
Asides great visuals, that's how I thought of the 1st Avatar - and it felt so preachy as far as the story is concerned. Too... cliche'd? Even for an Asian like myself, it was a bit boring.
Breathtaking visuals though. But it didn't make a plain toast storyline any interesting.

I remember being very impressed raving on about the first one and my siblings clowned me for it... I saw it big IMAX 3d; they went to a small theater.

No way I'd see something like that now... I don't really like that old version of myself anymore.

Agreed about the overuse of the pastoral fantasy and noble savage tropes, though I doubt you will see Nav'i trading unobtanium for guns to attack other tribes, the humans eradicating a religion of slave sacrifice or cannibalism to replace it with faith in a true God or anything like that.

This is Cameron showing that a near perfect and physically powerful indigenous tribe can resist technological domination by a "lesser" species. Particularly when the native "God" is actually real.

My guess anyway.

We have the 2nd highest priced movie tickets in the world so i’m not going to waste it on Avatar.

‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Director James Cameron Claims “[Testosterone] Is A Toxin That You Have To Slowly Work Out Of Your System”

Look how much it helped Kevin Smith.

If I ever watch this movie it would definitely be in Imax 3d. I have no interest in the world or story the created, but I have no doubt it will look really good.

Due to personal reasons, no, but I never watch movies in theaters, I prefer the comfort zone of the room that includes me, couch, and a TV.
