Someone just asked me a bit ago if I wanted a Reese's cup, and when they asked, they pronounced it as "Reese is". It caught me off guard because I've always said and heard "Reeseas".. I didn't ask him, or say anything about it because that's fuckin weird IRL, so here I am asking yinz.

I understand that the correct pronunciation should technically, maybe, be "Reese is" because Reese being a name and 's because the possessive form of it, but also, it's a brand.

Wasn't it supposed to rhyme with pieces?

Reese is. They're Mr. Reese's Delicious Candy Cups. Reesees is just something you say when you can't quite work your mouth around that.

Reese-is

Reeseas is dumb and I judge people for pronouncing it that way. I'm sorry but it's true.

Do you call them reeseas peesees too? Would you pronounce "pieces" as "peesees" in any other context? Come on, they're practically giving it to you.

Before you answer, I know for a fact that everyone who says "reeseas" pronounces them "peeseas"

As someone who grew up watching this, I've never had any doubt that "Reese Is" is the correct pronunciation.

I actually cringe a little when I hear it the other way. I wonder if it's a Pennsylvania thing? That's the only place I've heard it pronounced like that.

Edit:
Do you call them reeseas peesees too?
Oh god, people do actually do this and it drives me up the wall.

Read it like a name.

ex:

Yo dawg, is that your peanut butter cup?

Nah, man. I think it belongs to Reese.

Oh shit, I almost ate it. I didn't realize it was Reese's.

It sounds like a mix between the 2? Or I kind of think that I say both without rhyme or reason because both sound correct when I say them.

My brain hurts. I literally cannot understand how anyone can think it's "Ree-seas"?

Reese apostrophe S. It's a thing belonging to Reese.

No offence, but those who say Reeseas are actual idiot bad people.

Also, yes offence.

************

Reese > Reese's.

It doesn't rhyme with faeces.

At my old job in fast food, I heard Reeseas all the damn time. It's such a small thing, but it drove me up the wall.

I think it came from people saying Reeseas Pieceas as some sort of joke and just took off from there.

Reese-is.

I don't get how people manage to pronounce something like that incorrectly when it's often pronounced in commercials, etc.
