Do you still believe in the quality of Capcom games?

I always wanted to play Dragons Dogma and couldn't do it until part 2, which I played a bit, but it wasn't a good game.

Monster Hunter wilds was a total disappointment after World. It ran poorly, looked like crap and had an underwhelming non existant story, I uninstalled the game after about 5 hours.

Now we've recently seen Resi 9 and I have to say my first thought was, it won't be good again, even though I actually liked the trailer. And I enjoyed playing Resi 7/village.

I got burned 2 times in a row from playing Capcom games. And no longer have confidence in them. Is it just me?

I have 30 hours in DD2 and 120 in wilds. Were they disappointing in some ways? Sure. Were they bad games? Not to me, still better than most stuff I've played recently.

The corpo greed has gotten them so hard that they don't care about releasing half-baked products and filling them with microtransactions.

It's not that their games don't have quality, I enjoyed my time with DD2. Thing is, the stuff they are putting out could be much, much better if they got rid of the greed and focused a bit more on pleasing their fans.

Their tent poles aside (and I have enjoyed all of them over the past few years).

IMO RE7 was a huge comeback/return to form for the series, Rise/SunBreak and Wilds I loved (I will admit Worlds/IB was the last super CORE MH), I have enjoyed every SF game they have released, but this was most impressive for me last year:

Its a new/fresh take on actions games and I enjoyed playing through all of it. It was very well priced for the content provided, and to be real...Capcom didn't need to make this game at all. I appreciate/celebrate that they committed the resources to take a chance on a new ip with new game systems.

Everyone has their opinions and if you are not jiving with CapGod right now I respect that. My opinion is probably "tinted/tainted" since I have played their games since the mid 80's.

Dragons dogma 2 is the only true stinker IMO they've put out that I had any expectations for.

Apparently every MH fan on GAF is ok being shoveled the same shitty issues for launch MH game state. They en masse dick ride and defend it's ok to keep having the same no end game issue for every title. As if not fucking learning from your past mistakes to avoid the issue yet again is seen as a crime. I just don't think this MH game has legs and never will. Rise is peak.

As for Capcom in general? I have the utmost confidence in resident evil side of things. Generally RE games have demos before release you can try out. Plus you can wait for impressions and reviews. Be a smarter consumer.

Still top tier. RE4R is one of the greatest games EVER. So is RE2 remake.

Honestly, they didn't miss with DD2 it's just not finished. Wilds was a rare miss but the game was very high quality and had one of the best character models ever.

To me they are a Sony/Nintendo/From level developer and one game doesn't change that.

Always have. Capcom been dropping classics since the 80's.

Exactly. Even in their lowest point, PS360 gen, they still provided some fun games.

They excel at making good 8 out of 10 experiences that are usually gameplay-first in design, and I think the problem is that people sometimes put them on a 10 out of 10 pedestal and then get disappointed when they deliver another solid 8.

Payed the kunitsu gami demo this week. I was impressed. Looking forwars to all of their games specially pragmata. But I do Hope they fix their pc ports

I don't dislike them but I also don't really get some of the praise they get ("capgods" and all that) because the only games they release that seem to get universal praise are remakes of their old stuff. Most of their new stuff is usually somewhere between slightly disappointing and just "meh".

But I am looking forward to the new Onimusha and everything they've shown about it looks great.
And I do appreciate them releasing new IP like Kunitsu Gami and Pragmata.

Resident Evil games have been pretty fantastic lately.
Never cared to try out DD1 so DD2 doesn't interest me. If anything, the negative feedback is coming off like it's the worst sequel ever so I'm sure if I did play it, it would exceed my expectations.

That strategy game demoed well, but strategy isn't my favorite genre. Street Fighter 6 is fun but again, fighters don't really excite me.

So... I believe in quality of the games I've played. I find the complaints about DD2 to be a little dramatic (not just from online complaining either), because there just can't be a way that DD2 is a bigger disappointment than what FFXVI was to me... can there?

I used to love Capcom but I don't care for any of the IPs they've been focusing on for the last couple of decades, other than Street Fighter but even SFV and SF6 were mostly disappointing.

People continue to give eastern developers a pass for subpar technical games largely as a bludgeon against western developers...

FromSoftware, Square Enix, Capcom... they're all subpar technically. It's why Konami farms out their development and even then they leave a lot to be desired...

Outside of Kojima Productions, I'm not sure of any eastern development studios pushing the bounds of technical sound games with high fidelity graphics.

General feedback I've heard on DD2 has trended negative and for Wilds has been outright negative. On the other hand, from firsthand experience I can say Street Fighter 6 has been and continues to be great. Feedback on their RE titles has been all positive too.

I still believe in Capcom but not all their teams have been on their A-game. Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter sounded a mite cheaped out on, and the for Monster Hunter it sounds like they tried casting too wide a net, watering down the experience.

They do that because those eastern developers usually put games with better gameplay than the western ones. Not always, but imo, a lot of the time.

Kunitsu-Gami demo was cool, bought it months ago, just haven't had the time to play it yet.

In regards to Monster Hunter, if Capcom dropped a Monster Hunter Generations-style game with Rise (but better) graphics they'd totally redeem themselves for me. A "best of" MonHun with new flavor, cool crossovers, stylish weapons, and no more "living biomes"—just numbered, detailed zones with actual soul? Oh man. That would be incredible.

I can only speak for myself but I'm enjoy most Capcom's recent games including MHWilds.

I recently started playing RE7 since avoid the game because I'm not in to first person combat but I'm still not but I'm having fun with the game.

Yeah I still very much looking forward to Capcom's future games.

Still cool for me, i'm fine with them. DD2 are rocking solid imo, i havent buy MHWild because works, fraid to slack much with the game. Tried on event and still like it. Better than no new MH for me.

TLDR, still good foor me

They are just a hit-maker now who are always aiming to sell millions of copies of each of their games. That's fine if you like games that are always following modern trends. That makes them an industry darling too, so they get called Capgod by influencers and Geoff Keighley cries his eyes out in public when Resident Evil gets announced.

Personally I look to their back catalogue and their huge legacy and find nothing but disappointment in modern day Capcom. Look at Capcom Arcade Stadium 1 and 2. They will never EVER make these kinds of games again. Look at all their Fighting Collection series. The vast vast majority games in those collections will NEVER get new entries. And Capcom doesn't even attempt to make new games with a similar ethos either. They throw a bone every now and then with something like Kunitsugami or Okami 2 but that's it. Even then, everything is designed for maximum appeal so they announce them at the Game Awards or Summer Games Fest, the two most modern and sycophantic events in the gaming calendar.

Fair enough if you like their modern stuff but the Capcom of Viewtiful Joe, PN03, Gotcha Force, Zak and Wiki, Dead Rising, Power Stone etc etc (the list could go for pages) is long dead in my eyes.

Capcom release great to excellent games on a regular basis. I haven't played the new Monster hunter (not really my jam) or DD2 (I'll get to it eventually) but I'm sure both are very good. I can't take many users on this forum seriously most times as every game is a turd in their minds. I play said games and find them great 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for your valuable opinion on all those games you haven't played. :goog_relieved:

Crimson Desert is far superior to everything any western studio has in the pipeline, with the exception of GTA.

Astrobot is the most advanced platformer of all time.

Stellar Blade is one of the most polished games this gen.

Pragmata is gonna be glorious and you can take that to the bank, I just have a REALLY good feeling about it, the esthetics just resonate with me, from the power armor design, to the enemies, to the shooting feeling (there's almost a hit stop whenever you shoot at an enemy judging by the video) and the trailer music is just chef's kiss...

Then you have Onimusha which also looks good - not to mention, different from the usual hack n slashes (which are almost exclusively souls-likes nowadays) and...yeah.

Never cared for MOHUN so I don't give give a rat's arse whether it was good or not, Exoprimal was surely a miss as was DD2 apparently but, we also had a very good RE trilogy remake so...

They surely have been put a bit too much on a pedestal by certain people and certain press while not being criticized for relying a lot on remakes, new games like DD2 and the latest Monster Hunter were overhyped but they turned out just ok.
Still they have been kinda consistent whereas other publishers have gone missing in action and they have not released real duds so I wouldn't criticize them particularly.

Too much focus on censorship of older titles being re-released, Remake culture, and heavy streamlining of their modern games with Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma being key offenders.

They seem to care about Resident Evil so I'll pick up Requiem.

No, that's not why Konami outsources projects, it's because their internal teams are extremely limited to mobile/pachinko, PES and Yu Gi Oh. They literally cannot handle any sort of large scale development on their own.

Monster Hunter Wilds metacritic: 88%
Dragons Dogma 2 metacritic: 86%

Safe to say these are very well
Regarded games. Nice try though.
Opinions of the critics and game journalists: always right.
Opinions of your fellow gamers: always full of shit.

You do you man. But I'd say go play the games, form your opinion and then come have a discussion about it if you want. But please don't use review scores as your only argument, those are more often than not absolutely worthless.
