I'm technically still at 1080p on my Panasonic plasma, but I downsample from 1440p-1620p with Nvidia DLDSR. There's a noticeable upgrade from a native 1080p output but obviously it's not the same as an actual 1440p+ display. One day I'll upgrade to a higher res TV, but I'm not in a rush because I love my plasma TV (which still has better blacks than modern TVs).

Not by choice. I still don’t have a monitor that is capable for more than 1080p.
I can hook up my PC to my TV or finally buy a newer monitor. If I would do the latter, I will buy a 1440p monitor. My 3070 can’t run games on 4k anyway.

I wouldn’t say I play any resolution by choice. If all games were readily available at 60fps/32K I’d happily play that instead.

4k 60 for about 2 years. Bumped to 4k 120 earlier this year after getting 4080 Super. Non HDR because it burns out my retinas.

1080p is way to blurry on my 65'' TV at my viewing distance. Even 1440p looks pretty soft.

I currently do. My recent PC upgrade got me into a 7800X3D with a bundle from Microcenter. However, my GPU is an RTX 3060ti, and is the next scheduled update. I am in a spot though, because my PC monitors are all 1080p. If I upgrade the GPU as intended early next year, then I still don't have a monitor to utilize the rig to its capabilities. My next monitor MUST be OLED. Not really sure which resolution to buy though. My thought process is I should go for a 4K capable unit. What would you do GAF, in this situation? Get the OLED monitor first, then the GPU? That is the direction I am leaning. Until then, it will be 1080p.

3080ti and 4k monitor owner so nopes, usually its 4k or 4k with dlss. Mind u i dont play some of the newest AAA games yet coz got huge backlog and relatively old cpu(8700k) that cant hold stable 60 even in 720p in those games ;P
Edit: Upgrade or rather whole new platform coming soon tho, depending on what ngreedia offers next year, cpu wise 9800x3d is bis like expected that will dwarf even next gen console cpu performance so i wont need new cpu till at least 2036 ^^

I had a 1440p 24" 120hz monitor but then I bought a 1080p 24" 240hz monitor.

Frame rate is much more important to me. 60 FPS almost look juddery when you are used to 120/240 FPS. And it's easier to push those numbers with a 1080p panel.

That because, there no graphic cards up 700$ fro long term, Even 4070/S/7800 are 1080p cards. So, 1080 most stable for perfomance. need few years more to make 1440 more stable

Yes, I still play on 24 inch 1080p monitor. It kinda sucks due to font size in games, but it is way better than that small Samsung TV I had since the PS3 days, the font size on that was a nightmare.

I've been intentionally playing Switch on an old 1080 TV but I had no idea people were doing this for PS5 as well, kinda mind-blowing lol.

My 1ms monitor is (intentionally) only 1080p, so I don't have to make much compromise, if any, to get 144 with nice settings out of my 3070 laptop GPU for FPS the games that necessitated owning the platform. If I went bigger/nicer screen it would have meant bigger/nicer hardware, but I don't really need it. Improved resolution feels like the least necessary upgrade to me. Don't get me wrong I'd take it, but as a more passive upgrade. When my old TV literally breaks and I have to buy a new one anyway I'll have 4k from my laptop

Love my plasma tvs also. Have the 2014 Samsung 43 inch 4500 series and the coveted 2015 high end Samsung 51 inch PN8500 series. The 8500 til today is still one of my favorite tvs. The picture quality and the amount of features Samsung packed into their best plasma made is amazing. Both tvs are 600 hz and gaming is flawless on them. Absolutely love Plasma tvs for gaming and for watching all my films.

I thought playing RDR-1 with such old graphics would be lame, and then my laptop ran it so smooth high fps i really didn't mind the old graphics.

I will be on 1080p for a long time seeing the GPU prices.

I actually dug out my older 1080p tv to play FF7 rebirth in performance mode on base ps5 as it was blurry as hell on my 4K TV. I could still put it at a lower res on my 4K TV, but I choose to go through the game in 1080p on a natively supported TV. It was a lot better that way.

I've considered doing the same if I want to play some PS3 games on PS Plus. They weren't made for 4K TVs. On a HDTV though it's easier to overlook the dated graphics. They are for PS3 gen what CRT is for PS2 gen.

I have my pc connected to my tv and always play at 1440p - using dlss of course when available

1080p is preferable to 4k but 1080p it is just a -tad- too low imo.

4k is 100% pointless - i cant tell the difference from 1440p on a tv at normal viewing distance. I will probably never use 4k before 1440p if it is available unless somone wastly upgrades my (normal) eyesight

the truth is that full hd will continue with us, GTA 6 1080p on Xbox/ps5 is a possibility too.

If you connected the PS5 to a recent cheap 1080p I guarantee you it would seem like a generational leap alone. TV’s age consoles more than their tech especially if you’re talking 7-10 year old TV’s.

It’s one of the reasons people are blown away the first time they play the OLED Switch over their launch console.

on steam yes my main monitor is the 2560x1080 ultrawide. I just prefer playing at 120fps. I do have 2 1440p monitors for drawing and stuff on the side.
for consoles I do have a 4k tv.

No. I stream/"remote play" from my computer to my 4k TV, but that stream's resolution cannot be higher than that of the monitor the PC is hooked up to, which is 1080p.

Spot on assessment. The 1080p displays will super sample the 4k image thru hardware like the Series X and PS5 do and it produces a razor sharp image.

Kind of like "stretching" the pixels? Prolly talking out my ass, but id imagine if the display is 4k, but the content playing is 900p would look worse than the 1080 display?

But more so than that, bet display tech play bigger role. Like lcd, led, oled.

Now that I have a 27inch 1440p monitor @120+Hz, I don't want to play any game at 1080p due to scaling issues. The scaling was not an issue on CRT monitors due to how technology works.
With LCDs and OLEDs, we need either native resolution or integer scaling like 2:1.
Not playing 4k yet because such monitors were too expensive if I want 120+Hz. For me right now, 1440p with high framerate is the sweet spot.
