Itagaki explains that the characters in Dead or Alive 4 move too fast to be properly captured at sixty frames per second.
.....Dead or Alive recreates the world as your eyes would see it, which is with fast objects blurred. Team Ninja is considering including a cameraman mode in the game so that players will be able to snap pictures with this effect clearly visible.

DOA4 will include more than 20 characters, Itagaki reveals, adding that he himself came up with eight of the characters. Itagaki also states that he came up with the storyline for the game.

tagaki reveals that major changes have been made to all the characters fighting moves. Moves that have been in the series until now have been replaced.

Holy crap! New characters in a new installment in a long-running fighting game?!?!
Assuming they're all new. There's never been 8 new characters in recent DOA games, so I'm excited.

Olimario mode?
:lol

*edit*
The shutter effect also sounds nice, but I'm more excited about seeing the gameplay changes and added moves etc.

"The fighting styles of the characters won't change without changing around their main moves. It's a real risk. This isn't something that's small as adjustments to the gameÂ’s balance," commented Itagaki. "Up until now, we were chained to the series' existing framework. But time had passed, and by the period that we were working on Beach Volleyball, we felt that it [the framework] didn't matter any more. We will be pursuing [to create] a game that plays more like a Dead or Alive rather than a game that plays like a fighting game."

and self-shadowing?

gt4 introduced the photomode as far as i'm aware, and its one of the best ideas to come along in a while IMO. any game that has replays (or should have replays... fps, i'm looking at you) should definitely have this feature.

So they're completely redoing all of the move sets? Oh, this'll go over well. It's nice to have things freshened up like that, but I thought I saw some pretty familiar moves in the high-res trailer released as it was.

Oh I totally agree. my comment was more aimed at the wording, which made it seem like the idea of new characters was some new level of innovation, coupled with another masterpiece story. I like the idea of the moves being changed up, and hope that the new characters (and old) all have stories that are more than blurbs in manuals followed by endings that include: crotch grabbing, some dolphins, smashing a motorcycle and so on.

Read the articles. Some moves taken away, new moves added. There's nothing about redoing entire movesets.

Really, was it ever much of a fighting game to begin with? Good to know that "Dead or Alive" is its own genre now, though. If said genre encompasses that silly volleyball thing, the above remark would suggest that Itagaki knows what his fans REALLY want.

"And what is -that-, Drinky Crow?"

Why, reduced stroke-to-spurt time, of course! EFFICIENCY IN WANKING, THY NAME IS TECMO.

(or should have replays... fps, i'm looking at you)

Most major FPSes do let you record replays, though. Sadly, only some of them let you view it with fancy camera angles after.

Itagaki also revealed that DOA4 will feature a new "slow shutter" engine that purposely blurs the characters to make their actions look natural when they move at extremely high speeds.

Interesting. I hope he ended up deciding to make a new trailer for next week's event.

There was a new one posted since I replied, but here's what the first one said:

Moves that have been in the series until now have been replaced.

That pretty much says to me "every major move you've come to rely on being there has been altered significantly or removed."

Even from what I glanced at in the other article, he said it goes far beyond basic tweaks.

Itagaki takes credit for everything.

Doesn't anybody else at Tecmo get recognition?

Eh, I don't think I'd like to be known for creating rehashes and horrible spinoffs.

Well you were still wrong, which is why I said to read the article. :p It simply means some moves are replaced with new ones, still nothing about entire movesets.

Stop looking for things that aren't there, "tweaks" = what I already stated heh.
