DOAXBV2 confirmed by Itagaki

Hmmm I guess the DOAX / DOAU team could now be working on DOAX2 but it would make more sense for Team Ninja to release this game a bit later in the next generation consoles life.
The DOA3 / Ninja Gaiden team is working on DOA4 as a Xbox 2 launch title (it's more or less official now), but I'd rather have the other team working on this game too so they it can be really complete when it's released and not 90% done like DOA3 was for the US launch.
DOAX was a nice little game to play for 30 minutes each day or so, but it really lacked some depth. Getting new swimsuits is a good enough motivation I guess, but a more mini games would have been great. I'd very much like to see a DOA party game like Mario party :D

jesus. when will they get over this endless elaboration on doa and do a new ninja gaiden. or really any kind of action game. that's obviously where their talents lie. and i think the doa girls have been in enough kinky outfits to satisfy most fetishes. enough already.

I'd like to see Team Ninja do an ARPG, already. But, a new NG would be nice.

Anyway, if the new DOAXBV has a real game of volleyball in it, then cool. If not, I'll pass.

but it's the only xbox game that sell in japan! They will milk doa forever.

And it's only DOA that sells. Ninja Gaiden bombed quite hard, even with a 14 years old Ayane with bouncing breasts and a DDD cup blond girl :D

I'm surprised no one mentioned the most meaty part of that interview yet. Itagaki basically confirmed there will be no hard disk drive in Xenon.

Drohne, Ninja Gaiden 2 is coming. Not sure how far into development the game is (Probably not far), as it is slated to come out after DoA4. DoA4 is the number one priority for Team Ninja right now. I'd rather have a new Ninja Gaiden game first too but DoA is their big money maker. Although the sales of Ninja Gaiden are not shabby at all and probably turned some heads at Tecmo. Especially at how well it sold in NA. Anyone know how Ninja Gaiden sold in Europe?

He's talked before about doing a new DOAX on whichever next-gen platform or platforms suit his needs, so I think GI's Xenon angle is speculation. Not wildly unfounded speculation, but still.

DoAX is probably the worst game I've played this gen that a lot of people thought was decent. Just dreadful.

This is certaily disappointing. Team Ninja could be among my favorite developers if they'd take it easy on their fan service and focus on other things. I didn't think they were worth squat outside of graphics, but Ninja Gaiden really, really impressed me.

This is bad news.

can't want for he put that on DS.

touch screen + boobies = hmm .......

team ninja should really try their hands at more elaborate action games. i mean they are obviously talented at making eye popping graphics and fast, smooth gameplay. they are turning boring like capcom.

If "turning boring" means giving us a funny little vacation'em up collectathon with their hot female fighting characters...

Capcom, turn boring NOW!

The problem is that Team Ninja will focus their main resources on this and give it a lengthy development cycle that will prevent them from working on something that could live up to NG. Team Ninja does nothing quickly. News like this is just confirmation that I won't get to play a follow-up to Gaiden (or even better, new IP) until at least 2006-7.

Mmmm, digital barbies.....*ahem*

If they could take the appeal of the first one and triple the depth then I'd be intersted. The casino aspect could have been cool, but the way they did it was fairly lame. Integrate that with Xbox Live support and Next Gen graphics it could be a very good and different title. Isn't that a good thing on the Xbox platforms?

DOAX wasn't worked on by Team Ninja's main staff. It was mostly a side project that allowed a lot of newer hires to get their feet wet. I think there was little staff crossover between that and NG.

Much to my disappointment, I think you'll find DOAX will be a latter-day side-project, and the order of releases will be DOA4, NG2, whatever Code Chronos ends up as, then DOAX2.

IT'S SO UNFAIR.

IGN has a better interview with Itagaki on this topic, and in it he mentions another game in the style of DoAXBV. But it didn't mean it would be a direct sequel to DoAXBV. Same style, maybe a different format. Anyway, it sounds like DoAXBV was pretty much a side project for most of its development with only a couple people working on it. I could have sworn in an interview with Itagaki he stated that something like 4 people were working on DoAXBV, while the rest of the team had been focusing on Ninja Gaiden and main DoA series.

Basically, a game such as DOAX doesn't need that big a development team. When you have the graphics engine in place (and the code needed for the interactive sections) it's all about producing items. A few decent modellers can do that.

To make thinks clearer, Team Ninja has 3 internal team :
- Team 1 is the biggest part, they are the one working on the big titles : DOA3 / Ninja Gaiden / DOA4 / NG2 (?)
- Team 2 is the R&D team. It's mainly a few programmers who work on the engines and tools.
- Team 3 is the DOAX / DOAU team. A small team recently created to work on side projects while the main team works on bigger stuff.
For the moment you can bet team 1&2 are working on DOA4 like crazy. As for team 3 I'd say they are also working on this game too since they will have to get a next gen engine. Of course maybe DOA4 and their game share the same engine so they could be working (but just starting anyway) on the sequel of DOAX right now.

Here is the IGN Itagaki interview which looks to be the basis for Game Informer's article:

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/569/569953p1.html

Some choice quotes:

GN Xbox: We know about a number of Team Ninja projects in the works (Code Cronus, DOA 4, Ninja Gaiden 2). What order can we expect them in? Which is next?

Itagaki: DOA 4 is the main project for now. Without DOA4, there will be no Ninja Gaiden2, DOAX2 or Cronus.

IGN Xbox: A long time ago, you said that you were interested in reviving Tecmo Bowl, but only if Ninja Gaiden was successful. Now that NG is a big success, what are the chances of seeing a new Tecmo Bowl in the future?

Itagaki: Wow, I'm impressed that you remember what I said. I'm happy. I say that Hayabusa's adventure shouldn't end yet. Of course this is my personal feeling so it may differ from what the fans' desire. You should survey your readers by asking if TeamNINJA should be working on Ninja Gaiden 2 or revive Tecmo Bowl.

After waiting all those grueling years for Ninja Gaiden, it is obvious to me that a high level to attention to quality went into the game. If we gotta wait awhile for Ninja Gaiden 2, that is fine. Team Ninja gets hammered for incorporating certain aspects in the game, and I agree sometimes things are over the top (Rachel in Ninja Gaiden a little exaggerated :lol ). However, Team Ninja brought back my favorite NES franchise from the grave and turned it into a fantastic rebirth. So I may allow to let certain things slide that others may not. :D
