Finally, a real-ass post. On that note, it's depressing that Chuck Palahniuk, a writer of multiple classics, has to reduce himself to writing in a medium for children. I think it's because people can't handle his complexity otherwise.
What the fuck, you can't trust anyone anymore. Hope you enjoy your picture books!!!
Never heard of Maus. I was mainly pointing out that there are a lot of adaptations of more obscure non-superhero comicsThe Walking Dead is so bad it's cringewrothy, I never saw 300 but it looked like it was pretty much targeting the socially awkward 16 year old loser crowd as other comic book movies... Kingsman? I mentioned Maus and this is your response? Thanks for the confirmation that it's all pretty much shit.
Check out the Suicide Squad: Death of the Family issuesI like Harley Quinn. A LOT.
There was another one I liked, I think it was called Nemesis? I wish more comics were like that one, then maybe they'd be taken seriouslyComics = for children
To be frank, you have no idea what you're talking about. It's like saying film is a medium for children because of the superhero movies and YA adaptations
Sex Criminals is really great so far, everyone go read that please.
Those are the exceptions. Average comic sales are really sad. Based on the lousy sales, there's about a bajillion people who don't give a shit about comics.
It's also unfortunate that there is still an overwhelming dominance in not just sales but beliefs that comics = superheroes. It breaks my heart to see such quality and creative non-superhero comics struggle with sales.
Haha, I'm sold on this alone.
I would imagine Image comics gets more out of trades?Yeah, I referenced the top selling issue. A "good" comic sells ~20-30K, maybe. The industry is toast.
It's particularly sad considering the last two years of Image comics have been the strongest books to ever grace the medium. They are doing amazing stuff over there...and nobody cares.
I don't really see the point in making a thread about not giving a shit about something. Seems... counter-intuitive.
I never got into comics, graphic novels or even manga for that matter... I don't know why.
I don't give a shit about comics. Manga however... .. jk
I've always wanted to give a shit about comics, but just never got seriously into them.
Welp I came in here to post just this. I'm pretty sure I could post a few hundred threads about all the things in this world I don't give a shit about. What a strange thread.
Anyway, comics are just another entertainment medium.
You weren't reading this already? Dang it, man!
Will definitely take a look at these. Much appreciated! (and this is the most effective way I could get into comics/manga: someone recommending them to me)It's because you needs to read these hot new jams:
I'd love to get into Marvel comics but I have no idea where to begin and where to go from there, there's just too many.

Comics have never really appealed to me. The plots seem contrived and a lot of the characters are ridiculous. Very few series seem to take themselves seriously.
I'm sure many people say the exact same about video games, though.
Damn ObamaI don't give a shit about your face.
But yeah, I've tried to get into Marvel comic before, but they just get too crazy for me. Some of the things that hero/villains can do vary so much from comic to comic.
Check out some comics that aren't from Marvel or DC. Image has been publishing quite a few excellent independent comics the past few years.Comic storytelling especially bugs me a lot. It's just so ridiculous. The constant resurrections, alternate universes, crossovers, and plot twists are hard to take in. I know a lot of great stories have been told by comic artists, but they've always rubbed me the wrong way a bit.
Tons of videogame plots are absurd, but even then they tend to be more muted than in comics. I'm not familiar of any Western games that involve beloved characters dying and being resurrected, and even more ridiculous series like Assassin's Creed tend to be more muted than comics.
The fact that nearly every character has a perfect physique is also a little weird. I can understand the heroes, but why does Justin Hammer need a fashion model's figure? Why does Pepper Potts need to like like a movie star?
I like Harley Quinn. A LOT.

They will start caring when more runs finish or advance far enough. We already see the networks trying to mine Vertigo, which is pretty much the same kind of stuff Image is currently pushing.
I believe somebody in that thread gave a code for a free month of Marvel Unlimited.Feel free to pop in ComicsGAF and ask! We don't bite.
If you sub to Marvel Unlimited, I made a post with a few series that are good and easy to jump into
