Does Metroid Prime 2 have the hardest bosses this generation?

The bosses in Prime 2 are disgusting! Every fucking miniboss make me replay it like 3-4 times. I just died on that grappling beam boss for the 3rd time.

I am not really complaining though, because I give props to Retro for making it harder.

imo the bosses in prime 2 > Viewtiful Joe.

Some are really tough, but that grapple one was a joke. I honestly had 99 energy and full tanks when i beat him. I got hit, yeah, but i was always in my little "safe" zone and it was repleneshing my power.

I only died 2 times for 5 different bosses each. The hardest boss fights so far this gen I've played have been in MDK 2.

I thought the boost ball boss was a real bitch. Must've taken me three or four tries to beat.

Same with the Torvus Bog boss. I didn't die against it, but I was really feeling like I would at times. Especially
when the second half of that fight started. I thought I had won and then the adult form popped up and I was all, like, "&@$%!", especially since the first half was so easy and the second half was so hard.

I found the mini-bosses, for the most part, to be more difficult than the temple bosses (except for the
emp Ing
. I didn't die at all on Quadraxis, Amorbis, and I restarted when I fought Chykka because I wasted too many missiles in its Larva stage.. trying to hit it when it jumped out of the water.

Boost Guardian, Spider Guardian, Alpha Blogg were very frustrating fights indeed.

I thought I was screwed too. Then it shoots all these healing items at you, and you're able to beat the thing without really trying.

I haven't played Metroid Prime 2 yet, but I can't imagine a Metroid game having the hardest bosses in this gaming generation

I think I'll just rent this game next week after classes are done...I don't want to wait for a price drop

Spider Ball Guardian is the worst, easy. The rest are fair to middling. None of 'em's as bad as some of the crap in Ninja Gaiden.

DFS.

You guys are forgetting about Ninja Gaiden I see ;). Ninja Gaiden, to me, is this generation's "Super Ghouls and Ghosts", though obviously a bit easier.

Though I would say that the Metroid Prime series brings back that amazing feeling you got from taking down a boss back in the day. It's probably the only current generation game that has really nailed the execution of the classic boss battle right on. No amount of missle tanks or energy tanks are going to help you if you don't have skills to back it up.

The bosses in Viewtiful Joe (Ultra V-Rated) and the the bosses on Ninja Gaiden (most difficult setting) are much, much harder than anything in Metroid Prime 2. I really didn't have problems with many bosses in MP2.

Are the bosses in MP2 on par with or much higher in difficulty compared to the boss you fight after you collect all the artifacts in MP1? Maybe it seemed more difficult because I had put the game down for a long time until I could finally get 100% before I fought that boss but it did seem a bit difficult esp. due to the inabiltiy to turn quickly and run (strafing would have been nice but that's a whole other kettle of fish :-P).

Edit: I'd like to say VJ1 is still giving me fits... kind of like my losing battle with the story mode in F-Zero GX. I am weaksauce :-(

I thought the bosses in MP1 were harder. The only hard boss in MP2, IMO, is the boost guardian. I died on Amorbis once because I didn't know what you needed to do to kill him. After I found that out he was easy too. I beat the entire game with just 8 energy tanks and about 100 missiles.

Emperor Ing is a piece of freaking cake. He lets you refill your energy half way through the fight for goodness sake!

Prime 2 seems easier than PAL Prime, so far (i just beat
Chykka
). But then, Prime didn't seem to hard either, until i got up to the Omega Pirate...

GunValkyrie deserves a mention for some bastard-hard bosses, too. Especially since you had to replay the entire level if you failed to beat them...

Even though I am a weaksauce, I never died while battling the Grapple Guardian. He's the easiest boss. I've stopped playing at this point for now.
Boost Guardian, on the other hand, was a bitch.

Omega Pirate from Prime took me 10 times, at least, though beating him, I had only like 10 health points left.

I hadn't fishihed Prime 2 yet, in fact, only played up yo defeating Dark Samus. Though that seems way to easy.;)

How easily you people forget about the Dreamcast..

MDK2 >>> Ninja Gaiden >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ALL

If anyone can beat MDK2, they deserve my respect for being supergamers. That game is fucking hard.

No, they're all fairly easy. I died once on the boost ball gaurdian because I didn't know what to do, and once on the spiderball gaurdian because I needed to get down his patterns.

I finished the game on Dreamcast first and later played it on the PC. The PC version is so much easier...

The DC game was really rough, but was one of my favorites on the system. So many memorable moments (giant tower + max + jetpack == awesome)...

Yeah, MDK2 was a whore beast of a game to beat.

And Ninja Gaiden's bosses laugh at your girly Metroid bosses with HOT LOCK ON ACTION.

I died a couple times at the spider ball guardian and some of the endgame bosses - one because of a time limit (the actual fight wasn't that hard) and the other because I was playing it on like 3 hours of sleep so I wasn't thinking of even simple shit that I did later and made the fight a cakewalk.

edit: I totally forgot the point, which is hell no, MP2 doesn't have the hardest bosses. Metroid Fusion's bosses were harder and even those are relatively easy.

I died once in MP2:Echoes, but most bosses I ended with 01-99 health, first bar. Always close to death. Made it even more exciting.

The thing that keeps the Echoes bosses from being the hardest is the light beacons for recharging energy. Which is why the speed boost guardian is such a bitch, since there is no light beacons.

The12thplanet: How many "energy tanks" do you have? And missles too?

I have 7 "energy tanks" and still couldn't beat him. I died about 13th time. So, i was "forced" to raise my "energy tanks" to 13 out of 14 total. It took me another 8 tries to defeat that b*****d!!!! It took forever for me to defeat him thanks to "yellow and pink pirates" cuz they are harder to get rid of real quick. So, i kept playing over and over until i got the easier pirates " white and red ones" to kill then get in real quick to take out Omega.

Mine requirement was:

* 13 energy tanks
* 90 missles
*once omega disappear then head to the door and look up at the ledge & you'll see the color of pirates jumping down and gives u enough time to match the color to defeat them
*keep playing over until you get "white and red Pirates" then go for the kill (Omega)

Yeah, I remember the tower in MDK2 (DC version), pure frustration. I think finishing that part felt better than beating the game. Btw, the entire last stage was way too easy (and empty!).

And the last boss in Metroid Prime was the only boss in that game that was truly tough ( i had a sliver of health left). Omega Pirate was tough, until you figure out a good way top beat him.
So are Metroid Prime 2's bosses frustratingly difficult, or just difficult? I'll probably pick up Metroid Prime 2 after I finish Paper Mario 2.

Speaking of tough bosses this gen, how about Shinobi on PS2?

I didn't die once through MP2E. But the bosses were truly tough and some of them took me down to the brink! The Grapple Beam Boss was an absolute joke though. What little occasional damage he caused me was healed throughout the course of the fight just by staying within the Luminoth pillar of light.

they're difficult, but not frustrating for the most part. The only one I felt was really frustrating was the spider guardian... just annoying for the second and fourth stages of that fight since it requires near perfect morph ball skills and/or bomb timing.

MP2's bosses will have to be much, much harder than the original's bosses for them to be harder than Viewtiful Joe's bosses. It didn't take me more than 2 attempts to beat any boss in Metroid Prime. I only got halfway through Ninja Gaiden because I borrowed my friend's Xbox and just got to rent it once, but it's bosses were pretty hard too. Not as hard as VJ though.

Spider-Ball Gaurdian.

I'm stuck. I know I can beat it, but I dunno how. I get to the last room with the three power conductors...I blow the first two and I still have plenty of energy to get him to run into the last one, but I dunno how to get him to go to it. I realize that I have to activate all the bomb switches to make him change dirrection...but how do I get to the last bomb switch to trigger him to run into the last power conductor???

FYI. MP2E is NOT hard. Difficulty rating about a 7

umm you must get there before he reaches the final switch - keep him green by bombing him. THe last bomb switch? Its easy to get to. It to the upper left of the screen. You must bomb jump up to the platform leading up. The hole might be a bit hard to see. You can sort of explore the area before you attempt to conquer the SBG.

The hardest boss, I think I ever faced (not counting fighting games), but actually strived to beat was probably the last guy in Jet Force Gemini. Man, what A fanatastic game - best sound track ever on N64, great graphics (framerate aside), a huge world to play in, a and a fun base-mechanic.

Anwyay, does anyone know about the difficulty of Prime2 interms of: Is it PAL prime difficult? Or NTSC Prime easy? In between?

I played thourhg PAL, and found it a solid curve of difficulty, and when I played it again thorugh hard, I found it a cinch (probably due to knowing how far save points are, and enhacned skill with the controls), although, I made it near the Omega Pirate on difficult, and dread even trying it. I think Ridley on PAL hard would make me commit suicide.

Never said it was hard, just that I was stuck. I figured I would try to explore more, but the problem is I'm doing a scan mission which means I'm scanning EVERYTHING, so where it's saved at it takes a good 10 minutes before I even start the fight with this boss and it's getting annoying. I figured that in order to keep him green while your hitting the bomb switches you'd have to bomb him as you go, but it's kinda hard to keep it in timing in time to explore how to get to the last switch. Also I find it annoying to be zoomed in all the way so I zoom out so I can see where he's at, that's probably why I couldn't see the way to the last switch.

Boost Guardian killed me a few times cause it took me a while to figure out how to hurt him when he's in his boost mode :P

The last boss-a dragon you faced off against in Draconus was probably the hardest I've faced this generation. It took tons of magic and constant blocking and hiding behind pillars to defeat him. To top it off the games camera was awful whenever you ran near him.

Enclave was also pretty tough. The wizard in the volcanic caves was pretty good at keeping you at a distance. You had to choose the proper character and use alot of projectile attacks to ward him and his minions off.

MDK2 DC version, hand down, and i'm one of those stuck at the giant tower btw :)

then you have NG, i only played it one afternoon, and it took me MANY try just to beat the first Boss! The samurai on horse was a little more easy but still, they really get you over time by error you make and this make the hardess boss.

I really like hard boss, i HATE when a boss don't put fear in you, boss should almost make you do it in your pant or make you pressure go over the top. Boss that can be kill within 1 hour of play are no more part of the gameplay than a cutscene.
