Metroid Prime 4, 17 minutes gameplay 4K60

In beginning of video they address this

Looks like a high quality LCD at the least. HDC HDR + 120 Hz + VRR offsets the sting of not having OLED I think.

How much do you want to bet that in a year or two they'll be praising the OLED model as an absolute game changer?

I think the salt is directly because Nintendo decided to play the specs game this round, and the green rats and Sony ponies are coming to grips with the fact that their hardware manufacturers of choice aren't easily toppling the Switch 2, and Nintendo's had nearly a decade to play some 4D chess and plan their moves.

What in the world are you talking about? Siwtch 2 is nowhere close to PS5/XSX from a power standpoint.

That's not to say Switch 2 is bad for what it is (a handheld), but let's not pretend like this is pushing tech very far. It's a competent handheld that will absolutely look great with developers like Nintendo that develop down to the specs. It will look questionable at best for third party games that push the boundary of current gen PS5/XSX titles.

I've come away from Switch 2 footage and have been impressed with how much better it looks than Switch 1. Nintendo games will look amazing on it. But it's nowhere near the state of the art. Doesn't need to be either, even BOTW at a higher framerate and resolution looks gorgeous thanks to great art and that's a Wii U game at heart. Nintendo titles should shine very well in their own right. Even PS4 era games still look gorgeous, and that's basically what the Switch 2 is.

That's the thing, I'm not happy with everything but it's mostly good. I'm not happy that the price for the console is 450 but I kind of guessed it would be that amount due to the amount of features it has hardware wise that was rumored and most of those rumors were true. I thought they would go 400. But I've been saving lot specifically for the Switch 2. If I can get it at launch, I'm looking to get 2 to 3 games.

I'm not fine with some games being 70 to 80 bucks but I'll just have to be pickier. Like whatever MonolithSoft makes on Switch 2 is a day one purchase despite it most likely being 80 bucks. Everything else I'll wait on sales

Look at the rumors that Grand Theft Auto 6 is gonna to be 100 bucks. One of my friends was telling me that he would get the game even if it was 100 bucks. He's a huge fan of GTA.

I'm not a fan of the Game Lock Cards though, I wonder if that's optional for developers to use. Also PS5 games cost 70 dollars

As you said, those specs are impressive. Have they said how much and how fast the RAM is?
And I'm in on Cyberpunk since they're once again blazing trails and putting the WHOLE GAME on a 64GB game card. Hell, I don't care if it's $90, and I already own it on two platforms; CD Projekt Red has EARNED respect.

This is what I'm talking about: both hardware manufacturers have teased an interest in getting into handheld hardware. Bully ball isn't going to work against Nintendo in this space; if they're going to topple the big N, then they're going to have to accept they're selling hardware at a loss to compete and try to gain marketshare.

I don't think any of these other handhelds is necessarily trying to compete with what Nintendo does best, which IS NOT THIRD PARTY AAAA stuff.....

Nintendo hardware sells to Nintendo fans. You get a Switch 2 to play Nintendo games.

A Sony or Microsoft handheld would sell to gamers that have the PS5/XSX ecosystem and want a more powerful handheld experience. Or those that want handhelds but aren't interested in Nintendo titles.

Look what CDPR did with Cyberpunk in 7 weeks on the hardware. This is a capable system.

It's not as capable as consoles and it's not as capable as handheld hardware releasing later and with more competitive SOC node sizes.

Switch 2 is fine, but it's the worst place to play stuff like Cyberpunk other than very low end PC hardware or handhelds

Let's just say I'll be using lot of the backwards compatibility when it comes to playing Switch games on Switch 2. I'm really happy hearing how Switch 2 automatically runs lot of Switch games better for free. It's a good move

As for Cyberpunk 2077, that game is most likely gonna to be one of the three games I get at launch

I'm definitely getting Bravely Default HD REMASTER. Never played the first two games but I loved Bravely Default II

The screen actually does look pretty damn good.

But this video is how I'm finding out the Joycons will be $90. Jesus Christ, everything is so damn expensive surrounding this console.

Looks good but basically on par with halo 4 and a bit behind kz2. Still 60 fps while those games were 30. Just not sure why that's their target on switch 1.

Sony and Microsoft will never compete in the handheld market while the Switch exists. They would be fighting for scraps with the Steam decks. Nothing to be gained there.

As long as you can play Cyberpunk on the Steam Deck or other "handheld PCs", this statement is definitely debatable.

I'm still waiting on seeing how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth looks and runs on the Switch in comparison to the Steamdeck. I played a little of Rebirth on Steamdeck and both undocked/docked, it ran horrible and not to mention the game looked like an n64 game at times. I was pretty shocked. I love my Steamdeck but that portable has lot of limitations.

I played it, but never beat it. Something always pulled me away from RPGs, but I'm really growing fond of them as I get older.

One of the only things I'm disappointed by is there was few new JRPG announcements for the Switch 2. I'm guessing they will come later

This video alone sold me on the S2. The first environment looks better than that jungle environment. Kind of looks epic.

You're right about the power discrepancy, but this generation has reached such level of diminishing returns that for some people, myself included, tethered gaming becomes less and less justifiable.

Looks phenomenal. Everything I could ask for, short of it being built from the ground up for Switch 2 and not limited in scope and design the way it clearly is, by nature of being a Switch 1 game. My dream is the Metroid series has its BOTW moment with this game and a Switch 2-only sequel is greenlit. But in any case I'm just glad the game exists at all. The wait is almost over.

"Tethered gaming" lol

What's less justifiable to me is playing with an awful handheld controller and subpar visual experience

Diminishing returns my ass

Yep that's the thing for me too. I haven't been impressed graphically by a game since Tomb Raider 2014 Definitive Edition, it was the first game I bought for the PS4 and man was I blown away. Not to say games aren't visually stunning now but nowadays I'm fine with just gaming with a 1080p Monitor and making sure everything is 60 FPS. It doesn't matter as much to me as it used to

It looks solid overall but I'm not getting the impression that this is one of the games to showcase what the S2 can do. They are gonna get schooled by some 3rd parties.

Thank you Retro. I know this is just the basic ass tutorial level, but you fucking nailed it. Boss battle was typical, but I see where you are going. So happy you kept the lock on free aiming and continue to have it factor into combat.

It made Corruption feel like it was in a league of its own during combat. I hope to see an evolved version of the grapple beam combat options we dabbled with in Prime 3.

Dayum. I was not expecting it to look this good. The cutscenes, wow. Very surprised, Samus entering the planet in the middle of the war was really cool. Very well done, felt like a sci-fi action flick.

I'll ignore all the crack smokers in this thread and just say I regularly play Series X games that do not look this good. And this is the bones of a Switch 1 game. Sure hope the rumors of Prime 5 already in development being true. Don't let this talent go to waste Nintendo.

This tutorial was hella basic, which makes me all the more sure we have seen next to nothing of this game. I think they went balls wild. It's gonna be nuts. The psychic powers are just the tip of the iceberg.

Maybe we get one last trailer before launch hinting at the craziness. It's gonna be special.

Looks more interesting this time cause I like how there's some more interaction with Samus and the federation soldiers. Hope to see a lot of cool bosses cause this one looks pretty cool already. And I'll want to see more interaction between both friendly and hostile npcs with the game being huge and long. While I do prefer Samus to actually speak like Other M but this is fine too.

I wish Nintendo showed more games when it comes to first party but I know those announcements are coming

Was underwhelmed when they showed the switch 1 trailer in the march direct, but it looks really good on switch 2 thankfully

Holy shit Nintendo games finally looking good, makes me very happy.

Also I'm impressed by how similar it is to Halo 4/5 on the visuals and those enemies even move lidentical to elites.

But not as good as OLED. And there lies the problem. I need 1 to 2 years of extra patience for that version to come out.

It's no issue, they could just launch a cheaper TV-only version, for all I care.

Yes. Not as good as the OLED obviously, but a big upgrade from the OG screen.

Wish they'd just come out and confirm Mini-LED or something, a direct comparison would be nice.

One of these "journalists" should have taken an original Switch in to film a direct comparison of black levels.
