Does the drive-thru always get priority?

Does the drive thru at a fast-food restaurant or pharmacy always get priority? My wife contends that it does and that it's faster to opt for the drive thru. I've found that a lot of the time, because people prefer the convenience of the drive thru, the line inside tends to be faster. What do you think? Any insiders who've worked in fast food have the skinny?

No. Sons of bitches (teens) take forever either way on most fast-food restaurants.

I find faster to get your order when you're in drive-thru. It shouldn't though

Th correct thing to do is assign different counters for people dinning in and people using the drive-thru

There's no such thing as priority in fast food restaurants. Imagine being in line for 5-7 minutes just for them to ditch you and go take an order of someone who just stopped infront of the drive-thru? Not fair at all.

Good thing is in my country this shit never happens or let's say it stopped happening over 15 years ago. Drive-thru have their own employees/counters and so does the ones who're dinning in.

Depends on the place in my experience. My KFC is far faster with the drive-thru. My Taco Bell though is far faster if you go in. Then there's my McDonald's, which has a reasonable wait if you go in but is unparalleled in how fast their drive-thru is.

One time I walked out in a snowstorm to get McDs (munchies), but it was late and only the drive-thru was open.

I stood at the drive-thru and they ignored me for awhile, there was no one else out, no one driving in the storm, so I was their only customer. They refused to serve me after I damn near begged several times. Standing there alone in the cold and no one could just give a man a break.

I understand rules and policy, but really? Fuck them. They probably throw food in the trash in front of hungry homeless beggars.

I think so.

Priority list:

1. Online Order Services (Ubereats, Lyft etc)
2. Drivethru
3. Beta walk-in customers

I'm surprised online orders would be priority, but I guess they would want to prep multiple orders for a delivery run. I still have a sense of guilt ordering delivery that I don't have visiting in person.

I wonder if there is priority for eat-in vs take out at resturants.

It sure feels like it but i absolutley hate the drive-thru in some places. Take McDonalds for example, many of their branches now have double lanes and getting stuck in line with assholes from the other lane cutting in front of me just makes an already unpleasant experience that much shittier

Yes they do. I worked at MC D when I was 16 and Drive Thru was ALWAYS more important than counter orders. I was just at chick fil a the other day with the family. Did the order on the app for dine in at the table. 35 minutes later the food came. Inside line was basically empty but the drive thru was packed like usual.

almost all fast food places are run on the franchise model, so there's going to be a huge amount of variation by location even within the same chain. McDonald's, for example, mandates that their franchisees have to use McDonald's branded napkins, which the franchisees purchase from McDonald's corporation, the purchase of which gives McDonald's corporation a profit. It's not one entity, it's a structure that puts a lot of responsibility on the individual store owners.

Depends. If the restaurant has one person serving both in-person and drive-through orders, then drive-through gets priority. If the restaurant has a larger staff where drive-through employees are separate from in-person employees, it doesn't matter.
