Does the PSP still have no games?

So GTA is finally out. X-Men Legends 2 just came out (and has been reviewed better than the PS2 or Xbox versions). Lord of the Rings Tactics and Socom Fire Team Bravo are coming out tomorrow and getting favorable reviews. Legend of Heroes, Infected, and Kingdom of Paradise are out next week. Tokobot, King Kong, Need for Speed, and Tomb Raider will be out by the end of the month. Virtua Tennis and Burnout Legends came out recently. Tons of noteworthy games are on the horizon, as has been better illustrated by many of the big 'list' posts. And of course the unit launched with several worthwhile games.

So why does every PSP (or DS, for that matter) thread end up in a "PSP has no games" shitfest? Does it really? Is the backlash still warranted?

Always the best way. They aren't like real gamers anymore. They've "evolved" into innovation whores that have lost touch with what makes a good game good.

most of the games you have mentioned are rehash, remade, generally unoriginal. psp needs a game that can do something awesome. like what pokemon did to game boy. or like mario kart ds/nintendogs to ds. i'm mentioning mkds because the full online capabilities. psp is great. its just a big pricey for what it delievers.

See what I mean? He complains that those games are rehashes - then he lists Mario Kart for the DS. ONLINE doesn't make it more than a rehash....it just catches NIntendo up to the year 2000.

While I was initially thrilled and impressed by the technical ability of the system upon playing Liberty City Stories, I now find that the game itself is not incredibly enjoyable once you get past the first few missions. I'm thinking of getting rid of the PSP and putting the money towards a new guitar or TV. DS isn't that much better IMO. Game Boy is still the king of portable gaming.

I can hear you, you know.

SOCOM psp FTW.

Wait, does Mario Kart DS feature voice chat? If so, then that is awesome. :)

Awakened. Nintendo still has some amazing franchises.

PSP doesn't have games. Well, it didn't have games until GTA:LCS. Now it just has one super fuck awesome game that justifies my purchase approximately eighty times over.

If only we get Devil May Cry PSP sometime this century :(

I have 5 games for my PSP.

GTA
Lumines
Virtua Tennis
Hot Shots Golf
Wipeout Pure

And they are all fantastic, so id say it has a pretty good (but not great) selection out now.

Love that Mario Kart mention! Great stuff!

"Yeah, it's so original. Ya know, there's that whole multiplayer thing. I didn't even know that was possible!!!!"

On the flipside, I swear I've seen people go so far as to label something like Wipeout Pure a "rehash" or "port" simply because it says "Wipeout" in the title.

Personally, I think both systems rock right now.

Well, there's always "homebrew"...the PSP has a pretty good lineup, just not one that appeals to me. Maybe it has games that just don't appeal to you

Socom looks interesting, GTA just came out, King Kong is shaping up well. Just gotta search for the gems, I guess.

Indeed! Castlevania, Advance Wars, Trauma Center, Meteos and Metroid Prime Pinball are enough for me to make it worthwhile.

Now that's a good post. Bravo.

There is a world of difference between a "crap line-up" and one that doesn't appeal. People forget this all too often...

Exactly.

When it comes down to it - Metroid, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Pikmin and Zelda are pretty much my draws to Nintendo now. That and the hope that Mario will make a platformer comeback.

Other than that I've lost interest to some extent. But I'm not obtuse enough to discount a whole handheld out of some sort of misplaced hate like bunches of DS loonies seem to.

I think PSP has good games, but for me it was too much of the same things I had already played. Out of the games I liked, Lumines was the only title that I coudn't play something similar to on a console.

The other games I had were Ridge Racer, Wipeout and Burnout Legends... I enjoyed them initially, but I got sick of them in about 3 hours because i've already played games like them on PS2. (I also played Virtua Tennis and Hot Shots Golf, liked them.. but have played those series on console too)

The only game I was anticipating was GTA LCS and I figured that I would probably feel the same way. I enjoyed the PS2 GTAs for the first few hours but I always ended up getting bored faster than most people. I haven't put more than 10 hours into any one GTA. So I decided to sell the PSP because I easily get sick of GTA and it wouldn't be worth keeping just for Lumines.

I'd probably be loving PSP if I never had a PS2... but I don't think anyone who likes the PSP line-up could have ever avoided getting a PS2 for the 5 years it's been out.

I think the genre that PSP is lacking the most is RPGs... Square is just focusing on the Nintendo handhelds. =P

The PSP has games.

I just don't really need any except for Lumines. I'm quite happy with using the PSP as a multimedia device (they will not trick me into buying their UMD movies, though) and my Lumines machine, while my DS serves as my primary portable games device (since it basically doubles as a GBA).

I'd like the DS if I didn't have an N64 and an SP. I'm a junior troll, tell me if I'm doing this right, guys!

PSP owners: DS has no games [translation: no games in the genre we prefer]
DS owners: PSP has no games [translation:" "]

edit: boo, should've read the thread in its entirety before posting.

I guess everyone has their own tastes, my PSP has got six games to feed on. Wipeout, Virtua Tennis, Metal Gear Acid, Lumines, Hot Shots Golf and Ridge Racers. The GTA franchise doesn`t interest me in the slightest. Anyway, in the 4 months that I`ve owned it, I`ve only recharged the battery 3 times (and I`m not bragging about the battery life of the PSP), I just hardly ever use the thing even though ALL these games are good. I guess it`s that I`ve played most of these games before on consoles, I prefer Meteos to Lumines and when it comes to card games, I prefer Card Fighter`s Clash on the NeoGeo Pocket.

So, as far as I`m concerned, there is yet to be a successful (non pornographic) hook for me and my PSP... UNTIL GT MOBILE!

So, your bored with PSP because its just the same as PS2 games...and you think the solution is FF games...

Did you REALLY think that through?

You wouldnt believe how good it is to hear someone say that.

That last line in my post was just a response to the topic title: "Does the PSP still have no games?".
I think PSP is lacking in the RPG department, and the biggest RPG developer isn't giving much support. Most other categories are doing much better.

I never even mentioned Final Fantasy in my post... but I don't mind FF as long as they are new/original titles. NOT ports, continuations or prequels to previous games (FFX-2, FFVII Crisis Core). I don't like the recent FFVII milking and I don't care about of the new FFVII games.

Besides, RPGs are different from something like a racer, which so far have been too much like previous titles on a console.
RPG sequels can have new story, new world, new characters, etc. So usually I don't feel like i'm playing the same game.

Yeah. The series pretty much died to me years ago, but FFXII looks promising.

PSP don't have games.

PSP has game.

GTA:LCS. Everything else combined isn't worth buying the system for.

My collection of 10 games tells you to STFU!

Oh that's right, you're "not interested in those games."

Biggest RPG developer my ass...

They've been sliding downhill quickly this gen. The best RPGs on PlayStation 2 are not from Square-Enix...

They're the biggest technically, but as far as quality games go I think Atlus has shot passed them.

:lol

I like both my PSP and my DS, and anyone who claims there's absolutely nothing good on either is either lying, or his mommy won't buy him the other console. Go mow some lawns.

Very true, I can honestly say atm Im enjoying my DS more because of its latest surge of games, but PSP is getting some nice titles upcoming or that just came out, but then so is the DS..

God hates my wallet he really really does.

I said biggest because they still sell more RPGs than anyone else, I didn't say they were the best.
My post even said that the Final Fantasy series died to me years ago.

wait, so there are no bitter fans of other consoles? Lololo. As soon as DS gets a promesing game many call it a gimmick. That's bitter right there.
