Doesn't the Switch show graphics/power DON'T Matter?

I think the graphical differences are invisible to the vast majority of consumers. The PS5 generation started way too soon.
 
I dislike playing anything even moderately intensive power wise on the Switch. More so even in handheld mode which where I usually play.

So while Switch has excellent games, it's actively hampered by it's complete and utter lack of even moderate performance capability.

Most Switch games I have been ripping from my OG Switch and emulating. I can't take the crap res and frame rate anymore.
 
20fps isn't good enough though, and TOTK rather frequently runs at that. So clearly the Switch is holding even Nintendo themselves back. TOTK is amazing, but it would be even better at 4K60 (or 1440p60 or whatever).

MS delayed halo infinite by a year because it looked like a 360 game and it got laughed out of e3 by just about everyone watching.

People care, not everyone, but people *do* care, nintendo just found what works for them

It might has a lot of "nostalgia" on that system but the they deliver games with great gameplay. That's why Switch sells. That's what I'm looking for when I game on Switch lol

I do have a switch and got a lot of games due to nostalgia, I'm not denying they have delivered the goods.

But it also very naive to neglect the console has a lot of nostalgia attached to it and helped to sell a few millions of units.

Yeah I mean it is a factor. But for me when I want to play something that's not on Switch, I tend to game on my PC. I'm eventually going to go the PC Handheld route too, since I still have a HUGE Steam Backlog.

I bought a switch this year. Some games graphics are barebones but that is not a big deal for me. In fact it displays the level design in a way that I dig. I would like a little better performance and resolution though.

Horizon FW look awfully uncanny valley to me, can't stand looking at it, something about its lighting also bothers me, probably because it tries to look "realistic" but lighting is always "perfectly set" as in a photo studio or so... Can't enjoy the technical aspect of the game because of that.

Well, that's why I say that graphics matter, but not in the same way to everyone. To me Xenoblade 3 looks so much better than Horizon FW, GOW:R and TLOU P1, it's just in another level to me, no comparison. That's because I can actually appretiate the art style in Xenoblade much more than whatever Sony or Rockstar releases.

Graphics matter to me as art style, I rather take care more about the whole picture than individual model, texture, etc. And care a lot about animation expression too, that's why frame rate is important to me, but for most western AAA gamers it's all about more details in specific stuff, that's why Nintendo is popular despite its performance, games look amazing to many of us... And I play on TV exclusively.

Graphics/Power obviously matters to some degree. Otherwise Nintendo wouldn't ever need to make a new system. All aspects of a game (ie. graphics, gameplay, music, art style, design, etc) contribute to the overall presentation of a game.

Seems like "nostalgia" is just a slang for "franchise with proven quality over the time", so they don't have to admit it that way lol

Even Pokemon, I wouldn't touch new pokemon games at the performance, lack of QA and even art style they released but my wife loves them and so many people do too. My problem with Pokemon is that it doesn't deliver on the minimum to me but the game seems legit good for the actual target audience.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I was never a fan of Pokemon. That's a franchise that I agree is only sold on Nostalgia. I think Yokai Watch is so much better than Pokemon. I'm still waiting for English Localization of Yokai Watch 4+++

Hell I might not like Digimon Monster Designs, but the Gameplay for each one is great. With Yokai Watch, I love the Yokai Designs, the artstyle, the graphics style, the music, the plot, the gameplay and the music. So for Yokai Watch Franchise for me is excellent, and that due to everything in the game being great

Yes, power is exactly why despite those games running on powerful hardware will end up them achieving only a fraction of what ToTK will this year in terms of GoTY awards.

You can enjoy those goofy games all you want, just don't force some BS on others. We still need way more power, something like 200TF to achieve extreme realism. Continue your kiddo, shit-looking games at 20fps.

Fun gameplay/mechanics are more important than graphics.

Horizon Forbidden West with it's top of the food chain graphics came and went, within a week it was forgotten.

Zelda ToTK, which is not a graphical powerhouse at all will be talked about for years to come.

The most popular games on the market, don't have the best graphics.

What does that say?

You didn't answer the question. I'm just stating why I think Nintendo made the decisions they do when it comes to power. It just isn't worth it for them.

Of course the Switch shows graphics power don't matter! Could someone tell me, since the ps2 days, how much has gameplay has truly evolved? Minus different ways of control in games (resi 4 and Metroid prime being a prime examples), how has gameplay evolved in the 3D era since then? Graphics have evolved heaps but you can see from many remakes/remasters today, a change of control scheme is all that is needed as the gameplay still shines. Yes, the graphics are cleaned up for 4k tv's but gameplay is king- always has been, always will be.
 
it not that power and graphics not matter

but gameplay matter most. other stuff is second.

also show that we in diminishing return of core basic gameplay design. any kind of standard gameplay should be playable even on smartphone nowdays.

this is also show that it is not about powerfull hardware or fancy tools. but about creativity of human beings.
 
You noticed this now? Almost every time the less powerful system wins. There were few exceptions in history.
 
the nintendo switch is for very small children. i heard from studies that 3.4 is the average age of a switch owner. anyway, other than that, i think it's a very good handheld
 
I can see now why 99.9999999% of bans come from the Gaming side.

The IQ here is amazingly high.

I mean, it's true the Switch isn't nearly as powerful as the PS5/XSX, but it's a handheld system at heart, so people understand that will be the case. If the Switch was a home console with no portability, it would have failed hard if it was the same power level it is now.
 
They matter, but not nearly to the extent that console warriors and forum randos would like you to believe.

Developers generally don't care about having the most powerful console. They just want something easy to develop for and versatile for their needs. The Switch meets both of those criterias, despite not being nearly as powerful as the other two. Which is why developers are still putting games on it.

Yah after playing all of them on PC i find that to be a case. Horizon in particular is a drag, feels like a Ubisoft game. I haven't even buy it on my PS5

Nintendo has managed to carve out their own niche/selling point that has nothing to do with graphics. Those that buy Nintendo hardware do so with a full understand that they aren't purchasing something that's going to impress on a technical level when it comes to visuals.

Microsoft and Sony do not live in that niche in any way shape or form. If they were to start releasing games that look like Switch games, they would be out of the market in a matter of years.
