Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Just wanted to make sure but Skyward Sword is just 30 fps right? I doesn't go up to 60 fps

If a game is not running at full framerate, in almost every case it will run at a slower speed, not a reduced framerate. If you're running full speed and it's getting consistent frame updates it's all good.

Does this mean we can play MK8 at 60fps in 4player mode?

MK8 is a WiiU game bud =p

Also, since MK8 updated 4player screens alternatively, I don't think even a perfect emulation that was overclocked would change that. It would be an issue of implementation, not ability.

After reading about it in the "best features of 2014" post, I purchased a DolphinBar, and I'm really happy with it. I was using a wireless sensor bar, before, and it was giving me all kinds of issues, and it wasn't as receptive as I'm used to from the actual Wii consoles. This thing is just as receptive, if not moreso (I feel like I can go to more extreme angles), and I didn't have to fuss with Bluetooth stuff in Windows.

I got SBS 3D working. It's okay. Most games really only have a pronounced effect on UI elements. Mario Kart, for instance, really has some pop when a menu overlay comes up, but the tracks themselves are all part of the same layer and don't have any depth. Same for Smash Bros. I thought Metroid Prime would be cool, but the UI isn't divided far enough from the environment so there is very little depth between it and the game world. To make things worse, a lot of objects clip through the layer and appear to be inside the visor. Way too distracting to be effective. The best use I saw was in Mario Galaxy 2, after freezing Cosmic Cove. There was a really convincing sense of depth as Mario stood above the ice. It seemed to render the correct distance between things. That was the only wow moment for me (and it was definitely a wow moment). Still, can't play the game for very long like that because it runs at <1/2 speed using OpenGL.

Meant MK7, it's single player is 60fps but 4player is 30fps.

So no-one's used this on a Mac here...?

I plan to download it this weekend and try it on my 2011 MacBook Air. 1.8GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.

Will post to let you know how it goes. Hopefully it doesn't fry my machine.

I think it'd be okay for something like Fire Emblem 9/10, but not much else.

You should definitely tweak those depth and separation settings then because when set up right there is absolutely some great depth in mario kart.

I'm not going to mess with it too much. Even the latest build kills my performance with 3D on.

Just turn down the internal resolution to half of its current value, e.g. from 3x native to 1.5x native. You are doing twice the rendering work after all.
I am rendering at 1x native. It's a novelty anyway. Maybe I'll play with it in the future, on a better machine. Galaxy and Wind Waker (that telescope!) were the two best looking games I tried, but the effect is not worth the hit to performance.

Alright, so I am having trouble with clean rip and animal crossing. It keeps skipping part 2 and then when I combine the iso's at the end and then try to play it dolphin throws an error message.

I tried it multiple times and got the same problem. I then tried another game and it worked fine.

Those Screenshots are fantastic.

Really have to try Dolphin one of these days, I wonder If my Laptop could run it.

Fake edit: Oh, the first post says I need a 3+ GHz CPU. Thats too bad, my i5-4210U ranges from 1.7 to 2.7 :(

What's this Dolphin Bar people keep talking about?, I hope it's not expensive as you do know you can just get one of those wireless IR bars that run on 2 AAA batteries for a like £3 that work perfectly fine with the wiimote if that indeed is what the Dolphin Bar is?

DolphinBar is an all-in-one bluetooth receiver and sensor bar that is directly supported by Dolphin. It has the same number of LEDs as the official sensor bar, which cannot be said about any cheap knock-off sensor bar, which usually have half as many. I used to use a wireless sensor bar from Monoprice, and the recognition was spotty, and I had to be within a much smaller zone than I was used to with the real Wii. DolphinBar gives me the same recognition zone as the Wii, if not a larger one (it feels like I can go to more extreme angles and still have it recognized). It also has a cursor stabilization thing, which helps even more toward making it feel like using a real Wii, as the Monoprice sensor bar I had was sometimes really jittery. It's $18.

As a bonus, it also has built-in keyboard/mouse emulation, although I haven't tried it yet.

Good to know, because I may get one of those.

Me and a friend tried to play on the Wii U with one of the cheap bar I had for Dolphin, I use it with the Wii U and Dolphin since it's always on since it's always plugged in my PC. Though we noticed lately that the cursor was unusually stuttering from a not-too-far distance and then we tried to OG bar which worked flawlessly. Whole thing left a bitter taste in my mouth because I tought the problem was the internal bluetooth on my motherboard the whole time and I bought and external dongle for this.

EDIT: Also, I just tired the official GC adapter with a couple of games, it feels fantastic! Now I finally pretty much have all the official controllers accessibility for all my emulators. :D

EDIT2: That guy that made the SPM texture pack seems very open to get some of his work on TTYD, which is great news! He even left a little example that both games can share textures.

You are playing the game stretched by the way. Either disable widescreen and pillarbox it or turn on the widescreen hack.

Built my first PC last year and haven't looked into cool stuff like this at all. I need to change that. This and that Emulations Station thing look very neat.

Is there a guide to all this ReShade, sweet FX, hd texture packs things and stuff? I struggled enough to get most games just working right at 60 FPS, not sure how to add all this other stuff. Also I really wish they'd pop out a stable release so I can know exactly what issues each game has with my version instead of being unsure what's my hardware, what's my settings and what's just the emulator's capabilities.

Figures they got support for the official GC adapter after I get the Mayflash cheapo one. Oh well, this works, was cheaper and actually available though. If anyone else wants it, I can confirm it works fine, just looks/feels kinda cheap and the ports are "upside down" (only really matters for Wavebird plugins). Wavebirds work. Allegedly the official one is just a teeny bit more accurate for the analog though.

I kinda recommend against the widescreen hack for Prime though. It's neat that it works at all, but the UI doesn't move and almost all non-environmental graphics are culled as soon as they enter the "widescreen" portions, which gets annoying fast.

As a bonus, it also has built-in keyboard/mouse emulation, although I haven't tried it yet.

It's really bad, only get a Dolphin Bar for using Wiimotes with Dolphin. Anything else is an awkward curiosity at best (I guess you could use a pro controller in game controller mode if you really wanted to). Also, you're going to almost certainly need a USB extender. Other than that, it's basically the best solution out there for using real wiimotes with IR sensing in dolphin.

I'm aware of that, but anything is better than stretching to be honest.

What effects are you using?

because all HD packs can always be obtained from the officials site's forum. It's even in the first post.

Can you link me to Hypatias Wind Waker texture mod on the forum please?

It's not a given that every texture mod is gonna be on the forum, its a useful link to share for people. By the way, my original post was supposed to be cheeky, hope you didn't take it too seriously.

Thread title is wrong, Dolphin emulates the hardware, not the games.

That being said, I'd love to play my copy of skyward sword like this, that looks like a really nice improvement.
