Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

One thing I find hilarious about the paint DoF is that that's almost how the world looks like to me when I don't wear my glasses (except for me it's even blurrier).

I think it'll be good the whole way through. Visually, it seems something is probably different in newer builds or the stable builds that makes it look a little under par, but it's nothing gameplay hampering.

That's the loveliest looking DoF effect I've ever seen.

Edit (missed response between great screens):

It's the same as other motionplus games, it only ever asks you once at the beginning and you have the option to redo it through the pause menu.
And those other Motion+ games do the sloppy but non-interfering on-the-fly re-calibration whenever the Wiimote sees the sensor bar, thus significantly reducing the necessity to do said game pausing calibration. In Iwata asks they even explicitly mentioned that they had issues until with calibration until the Sports Resort devs helped out. So I can't imagine SS is suddenly dropping it.

All I know is that the current Windows ones don't work (at least with my dongle), and when the new ones came out I suffered for like 3 days to find out how to roll back the proper way to make it work.

Settings, revision r7719M. Also using D3D11
Is that why you're using an older revision instead of the newer 3.0-XXX versions?

No not at all. It still works with the newer ones. So far anyways. The main reason i'm using r7719M is because it was (I think) one of the first builds to support a 4x internal resolution. The effect it has on the visuals in pretty big, and as far as i'm aware, 3.0 (stable) doesn't offer 4x interal res.

The bluetooth thing is totally a Windows problem, but one that's fixable.

Ah, gotcha.

Please devs. Or smart people that can help: PLEASE KILL Jaggies forever.
Look how this game shines without those Artkilling malign jaggies.

Perfect -not good but PERFECT- cheap forever jaggy resolving antialiassing should be top priority imo.

Is it possible to test out the demo just using a normal wiimote? I won't be getting a motion+ remote until I get the Zelda bundle.

Also will a SB i7 @ 3.4 run it without issues? I can't overclock my CPU (imac)?

I don't think you quite understand what "requires motion+" means...it's NOT POSSIBLE with the normal wiimote

May be anecdotal evidence but the first time I tried the demo my i7 was running at stock speed (3.4 ghz) and I was only getting around 23-25 fps, then I reset my OC to 4.2 ghz and the game ran perfectly. I was also running on a different revision the second time so it could have been a different setting that led to the speed increase, though.

Impressionism is like my favorite art style so this game's art style is like a dream come true.

It is possible, I just tried it myself.

First, use this code here:
http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.p...6dd9d8328839d3fb&topic=9016.msg76087#msg76087

Right-click the game in Dolphin, Properties and add it to the AR Codes tab. Also Enable Cheats in the general Dolphin configuration.

Now, it should go to a black screen instead of the "Connect Motion+" screen. I had a real wiimote connected via bluetooth in Dolphin. While on this black screen, re-connect that one by switching Real to Emulated wiimote or something. Basically, trigger a "Lost connection to Wiimote" screen. It should pick up your real wiimote now, and you should have to option to skip the configuration of motion+ alltogether. If all goes well, you're now on the menu screen, though since I had no sensor bar nor motion+, I couldn't select anything other than the Dungeon demo. You can get in-game here, though swordfighting does not work. Running, dashing, etc. does.

However, I had the problem where I kept getting messages (every few minutes) that the game lost connection to the wiimote. I think this is due to the lack of motion+ (basically a calibration error).

Regardless, you can't "play" the game at all without motion+, but you can get in-game in the demo to see if it runs on your hardware.

Based on the demo do you guys think the game will be playable all the way through with only minor issues?

Based on the demo - yes. I sure was shocked how well it worked. I thought my second playthrough will be via Dolphin but now i am pretty sure dolphin is the only way to play this game.

i have tried to play the game without any upscaling - yup, looks ... not so good :P

Do you guys generally prefer resolution increase over SSAA? I was running Xenoblade at 2x with 4x SSAA on but got a bit of stuttering in cutscenes and battles. Turned off the SSAA and bumped the resolution up to 3x and not sure I could really tell a PQ difference either way. I was playing on a 720p TV, though.

Looks like D3D9 handles some of the effects better but doesn't play nice with a lot of the rest of the options. Free cam doesn't look like it breaks anything as well.

Damn son, Zelda gets uglier in every game.

it doesnt work for me in hybrid, asks to connect plus device, what am i doing wrong?

You have to remove the "Nunchuck" extension from the emulated wiimote options so Dolphin can detect the real Nunchuck+Plus

Gotta play Skyward Sword, I guess, so I'll be trying all of this out. Didn't bring any of my Wii stuff with me except for the Wii itself (which turns out to be the least useful component now...), so I gotta pick up a wiimote plus + nunchuck + wireless sensor bar, but that's a small price to pay for HD Zelda (and probably SMG2 too I suppose).

I'm having trouble getting games to run 60. FPS (like Sonic Colors or Mario Galaxy), 30 FPS games are fine though (Xenoblade, MonHun). Any suggestions settings-wise?

Specs:

Windows 7 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Quad Core 3.4 Ghz (overclocked to 3.8 Ghz)
12 GB RAM (DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)). (I upgraded from my last post)
ATI Radeon 5700 HD - 1GB GDDR5 (core clock 850 MHz)

I'm not home so I can't post screens of my current settings. :-/. Will post when home.

Well, I'm home now, so here's the setup I have that runs Xenoblade perfectly on my current system. Can anyone make any suggestions of what to change to get Mario/Sonic games to run at 60 FPS?

How do I get past the 'point wiimote at screen to continue' screen at the start without turning on my wii console and therefore sensor bar? (I'm using a real wiimote and motion+ plugin) I thought I could change the dolphin settings to emulate a wiimote but then it says plug the motion+ back in...

Go to the Wiimote Config window and on the Wiimote 1 dropdown select Hybrid Wiimote. This'll make your mouse cursor act as a pointer. Just center the pointer on the game window (might not be perfect) and then point the actual wiimote at your screen.

Can someone please tell me how to get past the title screen in Twilight Princess?

My Wii Sports copy works, as in, my bluetooth/wiimote/nunchuck/wireless sensor bar all working with it.

Wait a fucking second...

How do I explore Skyloft in Dolphin?

I know about that code, but can you put it in on the Dolphin version?!?

When in doubt, restart the game then toggle the Connect Wiimote option until it starts working (Tools -> Connect Wiimote 1 (alt+f5)).

Config button -> Enable Cheats
Go to your Dolphin folder -> User -> GameConfig
Open up DAXP01.ini in notepad
At the very end write a line like this

+$Descrption of Cheat

Then paste in the code after that

Godly.

And how do you put it into a booter like NeoGamma?

So I'm testing out Zelda right now but I'm pretty much stuck between 18-25 FPS, and it doesn't matter if I increase the resolution, nothing improves it? I'm using r7719, should I be using a different build or different settings?

Did you try using my settings I posted?

Anybody having trouble with the calibration? It never feels centered for me and after recalibrating and doing like 2 attacks I have to recalibrate again. Not sure if it's something wrong with my controller or just an issue with Dolphin.

Same, aiming the bow and slingshot is impossible, where the reticle is and where Link actually is aiming is always off by a lot and any time I move to the periphery it gets wayyy worse, even for the beetle. I wonder if actually using a sensor bar to calibrate and shit will help, gotta go dig out my Wii.

WOW, what a difference. I can play at 3x native at constant 30fps. The only other issue I seem to be having is a weird flickering at the top of the screen and on some of the floor textures? Looks like I should be able to play SS on Dolphin though, so I'm pretty happy.

I'm experiencing this problem too. I've got a sensor bar hooked up, but it's not improving. Thoraxes, are you having this problem as well?

Salih, what's your performance in the SS demo? Using your config I'm only getting about 20 fps in most areas. 4GHz i7 here. Looks spectacular though.

The DoF effect blows my mind.

You won't regret it. It was Twilight Princess that pushed me into trying Dolphin at first, I was thinking 'HD Zelda' just like you. :D

The need to have sharper graphics in the foreground, and background everything becomes like a water painting... strange but it works

Seeing as I don't have any experience with BT - do you need that Bluesoleil program? And what's this GlovePIE I keep hearing about?
No programs. Works straight through Dolphin. You do have to sync it to Windows first though. Basically:
-Right-click the Bluetooth icon in your tray.
-Select "Add Device".
-Press and hold down 1+2 simultaneously on the Wii remote (the blue player indicator should flash, and this step takes a few times to get it to work) (You'll need to hold it down through the whole process from here).
-Eventually, you'll see something like, Nintendo RVL-CNT-01 comes up (that's what comes up for me.
-Select that and it should be registered with Windows (you can now let go of 1+2).
-Open up Dolphin and select "Wiimote" on the top bar.
-Change Wiimote 1 to "Real Wiimote" from the dropdown menu.
-Under the part in the middle where it says "Real Wiimotes", click "Pair Up" and press and hold 1+2 simultaneously on your Wiimote and eventually after some driver thing it does, you should feel your Wiimote vibrate and see "1 connected", if not retry the "Pair Up" button and "Refresh Button" a few times till you get it.

From what i'm seeing... 30 FPS.

I played around with a couple builds using settings posted by Salih and Thoraxes (thanks for sharing, guys!)...

M'specs - i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz + 1gb GTX 460

3.0 gives me the best performance and I can actually record with Fraps while playing at 1080p + full speed, but has a ton of wonkiness (banding/flickering) with the DoF effect and lighting.

r7689 with D3D11 handles the effects best (D3D9 has issues with shadows), but I can only maintain 30fps at 1080p without Fraps running.
