Donald Trump thanks Andrew Jackson

Don't forget almost starting a war by going into Spanish Florida to kill Native Americans for, beyond just being Native Americans, having the audacity to accept escaped slaves into their settlements.

Honoring the man responsible for the Trail of Tears. Fuck off, you orange piece of shit.

Ben Carson: It was just America's first Family Vacation.

Yo Donnie, in addition to being a repugnant piece of shit, did you know Jackson was a huge proponent of abolishing the electoral college?

He seems to be a fan

Unless Bannon told him to put that up

I love the pic of Mel Blanc in the back there, it actually might make me change my mind about donnie... the man who voiced Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny was an honest-to-goodness national treasure!

The only two good things about Andrew Jackson, he supported direct election of Senators and the abolish mention of the Electoral College. Too bad he killed countless people and had an irrational hatred of banks.

Indian Removal Act and the "spoils system", directly violated human rights.

Don't confuse terrible person with terrible president.

Andrew Jackson is a pos that has done more immoral things than pretty much everyone except for a few handfuls of people.

As a president he helped this country grow through a lot of ill gotten means and is the father of a lot of modern progressive ideals. He also one of the main players in why Florida and Texas(which lead to the rest of south west and California) is part of the U.S.

As a huge history buff, his legacy is always interesting. The citizens of the us benefited from the horrifying things he did.

In what way did slaves and American Indians "benefit from the horrifying things he did"? Or do they not count?

Slavery was important to the framework of developing US trade and indeed the US as a whole. Doesn't make it less terrible.

Is it just me, or is the thanks to God kind of out of place and almost comedic?

I understand the compulsion to throw "God bless America" at the end of every speech, but this is a picture with superimposed text over it celebrating Andrew Jackson's life. No need to force the God reference in there.

So then we (us minorities) can continue to call him a terrible person AND President, gotcha.

Same way every president before Lincoln was a terrible president.

Same way Asians can call FDR a terrible person and president. Actually no fdr was worse at least Jackson had an excuse of the times and the fact that they weren't citizens. FDR did his terrible thing to citizens and in a more civilized time.

that doesn't exactly make him a good president. that he was profitable.

or I guess it does, and we just need to finally accept that we are the baddies.

Study us history and there's no way you don't get the sense that we are the baddies.

It also shouldn't surprise anyone that Trump is a fan of Andrew Jackson, and as much as we all hate Donald Trump (Which I do, with a burning, aggressive passion), he very likely reveres what Jackson is most well known for: being an outsider, populist who did not fit the traditional American political stereotypes, just as Trump is.

Though, of course, when I was growing up, Alexander Hamilton was the bad guy.
.

Yeah it doesn't surprise me that he is doing this. The historiography of past American heroes and actions has changed so fast in the past 10 years.

Oh so when it comes to the bad shit now it's "we".

My people were victims in this. We were pretty content endlessly fishing, plucking berries, and praising the sun in the Caribbean.

Thankfully, historians are now factoring in the human rights legacies of past Presidents when they evaluate their job performance. Thats how, after 3 quarters of a century of Confederate sympathising smear propaganda, President Grant's legacy has been resuscitated and redeemed.

One POS saluting another POS... Anyone surprised?

EXCLUSIVE: Copy of the text Trump read from....

As citizens we all benefit in some way for the terrible self serving shit the us does. Not just terrible things Jackson did but everything in her history.

My heritage is one of the most discriminated in this country and my parent still immigrated here because of the benefits of this country versus their own.

Come on. Do we even think Trump knew who Andrew Jackson was before he became president? This is all Bannon...

Genocide.

Internment camps. Racist social security system. Etc.

I don't like to play atrocity or oppression Olympics, but get some perspective.

He would have to actively commit genocide to be as bad as Jackson and as much him and that neckbeard piece of shit Bannon want to, they ain't getting it.

He would take that as a challenge. We have NK and Iran and a crazy person with keys to nukes and people we continually hope to keep him in check but keep disappointing. Never say never.

"We build on your legacy" - spoken in relation to the man most famous for initiating "the Trail of Tears"

I'm sure he's just talking about economic anxiety and not dog whistling to white supremacists again!

By the time Trump's presidency is over, no one in their right mind will remember him positively.

He will be just as hated as Andrew Jackson.

But why? I mean it's his birthday but still. Has any other modern president ever honored Andrew Jackson the genocidal war criminal who perpetrated widespread ethnic cleansing against native Americans?

I know there's a lot to hate about Donald Trump, but isn't hating him for saluting a former president on what would have been his 250th birthday a reach?

Well common sense says yes, this is the new age of outrage culture, whatever Trump does, however minuscule it may be, yeah he will be shit on. I mean he's a fucking literal Nazi that is doing everything he can do destroy our rights.
