Donkey Kong Bananza |OT| Red Faction Gorilla

Game is still addicting and fun. I am a little worried that I won't replay it much compared to more "guided" experiences, but not everything has to be replayed.

Fill in the blank: DK Bananza is the best Nintendo-devleped game since...Tears of the Kingdom? Smash Bros Ultimate? Mario Odyssey?

I can't believe that there's people that already finished the game 100%, this is going to take me months.
yes, I took a vacation this week, to just have some time off and play, and I'm on the 4th day of playing and I'm still not done...
I did also 100% almost every area, missing some fossils.

Odyssey's platforming and level design is on another level.
Disagree completely. Bananza's level design runs circles around Odyssey's. The levels are more dense, the gameplay scenarios are more varied and more creative, the way you're constantly guided towards collectibles is nothing short of genius and the level themes are insanely creative and come with new unique mechanics, which wasn't really the case with Odyssey.

As for platforming, both games are collectathons so they'll have less pure dexterity based challenges than in a linear platformer but DK's moveset dwarfs Mario's and the movement possibilities in this game are just miles above everything done previously in the genre. Seriously once you've unlocked the ostrich you can just cross the entire length of a map by staying in midair, and there's even more movement options to unlock afterwards. Ridiculous game.

Echoing the amazement at people having it 100% done.

I'm down to the Tempest layer looking for fossils and I've missed a load of bananas

Since TOTK for sure -- but that game aside you'd have to push much farther back to at least Odyssey I think, maybe even BOTW. 2017, in any case.

I tried everything :D Its too far away on a small "island"
Yeah I had no idea how to get that one either until Robb Robb gave me the solution one or two pages ago. I would have never thought you could do that...

Now I'm in the Forest layer, some materials there also have some interesting properties.

TotK for me, I haven't been this hooked on a game since that released.

Just finished the Resort Layer. That was super nice. The pacing of this game is really good.

While I'm still angry at Canada, my copy will arrive today instead of tomorrow. Had it arrived tomorrow, John Marston John Marston would have been added to my humans to kill list.

DK Bananza is the best Nintendo-devleped game since Tears of the Kingdom.

I started hearing one of the songs in my head as I slept. It was that song in an Ostrich area that gives a hint of Tree Top Town vibes. Yesterday during work I closed my eyes for just a second to rest and I could see the fossil highlights from the sonar slap.

Last time I was randomly hearing game music in my head was Pokemon Red version in 98. Though the last time a game really won me over like this was definitely BotW. Loved Tears of The Kingdom and do think it's a better over all package but BotW set the standard.

20 hours in and I've gotten every Banana and Fossil before the snow land. However I still haven't seen Diddy and Dixie. Don't know if K Rool is some secret bad guy Cranky is chasing. Don't know if other animal buddies appear. Though I did find a giant fossil referencing one! Don't know what Pauline's deal is. Don't know what other Bananza transformations there are. I feel like I've played so much but have at least 50% of the game to finish. The sleep talk is so cute. And the Fractone's trying to discover their origin has me intrigued like I'm waiting for the twist in some Monolith game.

I had Clair Obscur as my game of the year but this EASILY tops it! What a fucking marvelous game! A complete joy to play. Secrets everywhere. Perfect level design. Gameplay is king and this game shows exactly why. I love it so much. And it continues to show why no one makes games like Nintendo.

If you care zero about collectible and secrets, is this game worth playing? All the comments are surrounding these items, I'm not a completionist, care zero about that stuff.

Wait, the terrain doesn't save if you save and quit midway through a level?
Destruction isn't saved when you quit the game. I can imagine trying to save every single per-voxel terrain deformation you ever did in the game would be prohibitive in terms of memory consumption and save file size. The notorious Oblivion save file on PS3 issues come to mind here

Absolutely, this game is a joy to play, you'll have a hard time putting it down whether you are collecting stuff or not.

I'd say so, easily.

I'm not one for collecting everything, just having a blast working my way through the levels and completing whatever the game throws my way.

I figured as much but google AI lied to me last night or I'd have finished the level I'm on.

It's not saved if you exit the level either. I do wish though that they removed the fossils that were found.

Was anyone else somewhat put off by the idea of destroying the cool looking levels at first? It went away quickly but I did have this feeling of not wanting these visuals to just disappear.

Knuckles needs to be leading man again and Wario needs to get back out in the world and go adventuring. So much gameplay going on in Bananza that would fit these 2 like a glove.

Nah, anything that looked interesting was usually hiding something in it so I smashed it all up.

I haven't done it but I think it said pressing - and + on the map screen resets it all.

Every collectible enables you to do advance on something, they're not just checkboxes:

Bananas help you gain skill points to navigate the skill tree
Fossils help you buy clothes which increase stats, they're also upgradable
Gold lets you buy stuff like maps, 1ups, safe houses and even bananas
Coins let you buy bananas

Everything you collect makes you advance in the game, also they're VERY fun to collect, finding each thing is like a dopamine hit.

I really love that they set the game up like this

If you haven't found it yet, you're going to hate yourself...
it's the one from the chip exchange lol

I don't believe this.... I spent hours upon hours, destroying the lands. I've become brain dead just by mashing everything in sight.

I remember coming across the chip exhange in the beginning, but I didnt do it because I thought it was just an "easy mode" to get an extra banana. I never went back to him and just kept looking all over the place.

And you're right, I hate myself....

when it comes to outfits you only unlock in the post game, is this the complete list?

mining outfit when you beat game

dress that gives you records when you get all bananas

am I missing anything?

Nothing against the game itself but it reminds a lot of Knack, but with destructible environments and enough bananas to make you sick.

Where the fuck is banana 3 in lagoon layer??
I think people said these are chronologically sort of ordered based on when you'll likely discover them so I'm searching the beginning area of the layer and I can't find it

Edit: found it, no where near the start 🤔

This game desperately needs an "expert mode" where you can't use any transformations. Would have to change a couple things, but really not too much. The transformations trivialize any challenge, and even much of the exploration.

That seems like something you can do for yourself. I've set rules for myself in easier games.

I just imposed that limit on myself right from the start. Once I collect like 90% of the bananas and fossils within a given layer then I'm more liberal with my use of the Bananza powers. If I felt like I've combed the area thoroughly then I really use the Bananza powers for fast travel and convenience. Donkey Kong's base abilities feel so good, I don't feel like I'm depriving myself from much of anything beyond the music.

Those little 4 shits you have to find every levels, the one in the forest wasted a good 15 mins of my time, I fucking tore down the whole fucking sector 😂
