Donkey Kong Bananza |OT| Red Faction Gorilla

Nah I only play Docked, but I'm curious as to how it helps?

And to make it worse, the game is pretty addictive and cathartic when breaking stuff so I'm left with overstimulation but wanting more at the same time after a time but while still feeling overstimulated lol

I mean, it's weird that this happens since I love colorful cartoon/anime stuff a lot, I think so far the second level was the best because it didn't make feel that way.

I agree with the cathartic nature of the game, so I understand your conflict. I first played this game on a 55" 4k TV. I found it overstimulating with the color choices in the first level and constant tiny shards flying everywhere from smashing nonstop. It wasn't as bad on my smaller 1080 set.

One night I was alone falling asleep on the couch and just grabbed the Switch. Played DK for like 2 hours. The effect was gone. The screen is smaller, everything is more focused, your eyes don't have to dart around to see everything, and you can adjust the screen brightness easily. You can fully fall into the headspace of digging and tunneling around, it's very chill. Don't get me wrong, I docked it again and played a lot more the next day with online co op and was totally fine, but if you have a serious issue TRY IT.

Just beat the final boss, but I had to go back and respec my character before I could defeat him. I was getting stuck in the middle of his lava floor and losing my entire health bar before I could reach safety -three hearts removed per touch, and there's no period of invulnerability after getting hit. The previous bosses were absolutely no preparation for this one.

Is it even a platform game? Jumping is much less important here than climbing and digging. It's goddamn great, whatever it is.

Finished the game and now doing the post game. That final stretch to the last boss and beyond was spectacular. The last fight and it's multiple phases are so high energy! Tears of the Kingdom was my favorite finale of any Nintendo game until now.

Spoilers regarding the final boss.
I can't claim to know the internal thought process within Nintendo but I have to imagine the Smash Ballot was a huge wake up call to how popular Donkey Kong and King K Rool were to it's massive amount of fans. Very recently Kit and Krysta discussed something about Nintendo's internal data on the popularity of their characters. Mario and Link were always way up their with Donkey Kong and they felt Nintendo wasn't doing enough with the franchise. Now with or without the Smash Ballot I imagine a Donkey Kong revitalization was going to happen one way or another but there is no way those Kremling Kampaigners didn't make their mark at least in regards to future content. Remember when Miyamoto addressed the false idea that he hated Donkey Kong Country? After Rare was purchased by Microsoft there was a bit of shade thrown towards them and their creations in gaming publications from time to time as well. I wonder if certain powers that be assumed this notion was widespread, that some of Rare's creations weren't popular. Partially explaining why the Kremlings have been MIA for so long. They way that they were revitalized within this game I'd say was done exceptionally well. It gives a lot of DK die hards such as myself a bit of closure and reassurance that these guys are back and we can expect the min the future.

Man the scope and scale of this game, particularly within the genre, is absolutely ridiculous. I keep thinking "surely it's heading toward the end here now" and nope, it's another full ass huge layer. One of the best Nintendo has ever made.

Final boss fight tonight.

Nintendo was cooking with game, it make sense why it wasn't launch game.

After tonight, I'm pretty much done. Great game. Loved it. But yeah......ready to move on. I got Totk coming from Gamefly so....
You're not worried you haven't let enough time pass from botw?

Already craving more Hyrule?

For what it's worth TOTK is fucking amazing. You're in for a treat, assuming you liked botw

I have a rule to more or less 75 percent a layer banana wise before continuing to the next one. I feel it's the perfect middele ground between doing to story and the collectathon part of the game.

Absolutely loved Botw. I could have kept playing, frankly. Game looks so good on Switch 2 and there was a ton of side activities I left behind. But I knew I was going to be playing Totk so I cut it short.

Have to say, I think I'm definitely more of a Zelda guy than Mario/Donkey Kong and all that. Both are great, but I'm really excited to get back to Hyrule.

TotK is definitely one of my favorite games ever made. When I finished it I wondered ... where can Nintendo take Zelda from here? It makes BotW feel quaint from what I remember, which felt like a shock.

I hope you enjoy it.

Yeah.....I'm looking forward to it. You guys are getting me hyped up!

Not trying to do that haha. The games I've enjoyed the most I always went in with no expectations. Just take it for what it is. :-)

Haha...yeah, I get you. Nah....expectations are pretty much simply more of what Botw was at this point. I'll let the rest surprise me.

This is not only most certainly a lock for my personal GOTY, but I'm starting to consider where it belongs on my GOAT list.
Currently on the Feast layer btw, and loving it.

So, after putting my pride aside and the game to "assist mode", I finally beat the "bunch of battles" challenge, as well as the boss rush. Now the layer (post-game Ingot-Isle Cave-In) says it still has two bananas left, but random treasure chests won't give me maps anymore, and the Stufftone has them "on order", does this mean those bananas aren't available yet and I'll have to come back later after progressing through the post-game story?

Man I'm crazy addicted to DKB, this same feeling I got when I played Kid Icarus Uprising for the first time.
This reminds me, I really hope they make an Uprising remaster for Switch 2. Most underrated Nintendo game, it deserves a second chance on a system that's a better fit for its level of ambition.

The more I look back on and ponder the story, it feels like some kind of horrifying lovecraftian odyssey. Wtf is Banandium even? Never thought I'd think this deeply about a Donkey Kong story. The again most DK games are basically about Marxism.

Ending and final boss were great. Onto postgame. Gotta avoid spoilers for sure but very imaginative game. DK himself is just so lovable with his stupid smile. Diverse environments that challenge your understanding of mechanics with each layer. Punching is so satisfying until the end I still keep getting distracted gold farming. The fractones, animals, and baddies are all perfect and I got some work to do, didn't even get 500 bananas yet because I had to race my sons who are playing too, didn't want to risk them spoiling it.

one thing that really sucks is the gyro aiming in handheld mode.

they didn't adjust it whatsoever for handheld use, which means the only way it properly functions is if you hold the system horizontally like a normal controller.

if you hold it like this
hero-image.fill.size_1248x702.v1749480548.jpg

which is how I hold it while lying down on the sofa,
the gyro aim doesn't work...

very annoying... some games have settings to change this so it properly works when holding your system/controller at such an angle, by switching left/right aiming from yaw to roll. but even up and down doesn't work properly... which is weird...

In the forbidden layer. They keep surprising me with the game mechanics, I did not expect that. Close to the end now, tomorrow night maybe
I like how not only introducing new mechanics with each layer but also new rock material and how will effect actual gameplay.

So I'm clocked in at 33 hours or more, according to the app.

This is hands down, my game of the year. And thats no easy feat, having beaten Expedition 33.

What controller is everyone using? Also do most of you play docked/handheld? I started with Switch 1 Pro but moved to S2 Joycons, much better experience with enhanced Rumble. Docked %100 of the time.
I'm playing this game exclusively on big screen, there games just much more comfortable playing on Pro controler, its my entire reason why I bought Pro Controller 2.

I dont mind playing game like Bravely Default on portable mode.

Was really happy the game acknowledges that ostrich's can't fly from Pauline's comment lol.
The game is super aware on how shit is ridiculous, like her comments about DK's zebra running on ice makes no sense.

Those bedtime talks have been cute and funny.

That said, if someone doesn't absolutely love the DK and Pauline dance number after a boss, that person is a real piece of fucking shit.

I also feel a little more comfortable beating the shit out of the S2PC face buttons more than the joycons.

Most of issues with Joycons are its analog stick and I feel like if I play action heavy game like DKB it might cause to drift.

What I love about that when they first dance Pauline was super shy about it......it was adorable.

I think what used to keep me only playing games in portable mode with the S1 was that the resolution was dog shit when docked. Now that that isn't an issue with 4k, I think the ration of tv to portable will be closer to 50:50. Until winter, when it's cooler outside and I can play more on my back patio.

Then again, I think I might just buy a second dock to play on my patio TV. That also means I will need to replace my patio tv to a 4k one, lol.

Ok, I guess I see what my next project is after getting us a boat.

Man.

Nintendo at 4k is fucking insane. I don't understand how the few chums that said this game doesn't look good can even exist. I mean, they're just lying to themselves and us, right? This game is absolutely great looking. It's strong use of vibrant colors has my ADHD just loving everything I see on the screen.

I've said it many times before, but big black Donkey Kong (BBDK) needs to be the new default color. He looks amazing in this color.

I'm on sublayer 700 and the game is good but nothing amazing yet.

The first 4 or so levels were decent, the last 3 have been better but that's it so far for me.

Still a long way to go but right now I much prefer Astro Bot and Mario Odyssey to this.

The whole dock thing is actually one of the coolest to me features of the switch 1/2, the fact that you can actually "change rooms" as to have the big TV experience wherever you have a TV installed is just chef's kiss.

Now, the problem is that the fucking things are WAY overpriced 110 Eurdollars for a 2 plastic bits with an HDMI connector (granted, it comes with a charger) is really taking the piss and I seriously hope there will be 3rd party ones sooner rather than later...

Just a tip for anyone like me, who collected every banana on every level, and is close to or recently reached end/post-game: you're going to unlock more new skills later on, so don't spend all your skill points... Thank the Banandium Root you can respec at the Elders.

Also, there's a reason for all the gold in the first post-game area, holy... and I thought 20k for rebuilding the concert area in the Groove Layer was a lot... :messenger_face_screaming:

I know I forgot to tell everyone that as a wee robot I always dreamed about playing a game that would let you control a monkey who could turn into a bigger monkey. And I know I told everyone as a wee robot I always dreamed about playing a game that would let you control a monkey who could turn into an ostrich and that I also told everyone as a wee robot I always dreamed about playing a game that would let you control a monkey who could turn into an ostrich. But I have to confess that your good buddy, bender bender , lied to you. Those were all lies.

You see, the truth is, as a wee robot I always dreamed about playing a game that would let you control a monkey who could turn into an elephant.

You're better off just ignoring them.
