Donkey Kong Bananza |OT| Red Faction Gorilla

Finished the game tonight

WTF? This was platinum level ending

10/10 game for me. I think it dethroned Expedition 33 in my heart and I really didn't think it would happen that a game does that this year

This is legit the most insane ending Nintendo has ever done?

Movement depth in this game keeps amazing me:

Granted it's speedrun specific stuff but the chunk triple jump tech seems pretty useful even during a casual playthrough, great way to get instant height before you unlock the snake bananza.

I've never done it before, even though it's been around in many Nintendo games, but the couch co-op really made my day today. I was able to play DKB with both my 6 and 3 year old daughters taking turns. It's a few hours that will stick with me forever.

The "oh, banana" will be hard to replicate in the future. This game has taken a hold on my household in such a positive way. Like, Nintendo is seriously on a different level. I honestly think that they care about gameplay first, even over sales. Maybe because they know, make fun games and people will buy them.

I watched Jeff Gerstman talk about it and he was loving it, and that dude is as "jaded" as the rest of us old gamers. DKB is really something special.

What's the fastest way to get banandium chips during the post-game? I'm doing the Wallopoid x10 challenge in the Feast layer currently, with the banadium bolo obviously, and it works well enough, but I was hoping there was an even faster way...

The coop is perfect for kids. My kids usually want to watch Netflix instead of game, but not since we got dkb. I had to race them to the finish to avoid spoilers. They are stuck on void kong and may need my help tho.

I just can't get over that
the Banandium root seems to be some sort of unthinking, unfeeling lovecraftian horror that dwells in the center of the earth in the DK/Mario universe. They can't expect me to just handwave away what I witnessed. It must be destroyed. It's purpose is clearly to lure the greedy in with its beautiful banana gems in order to find a host

Barely scratching the endgame surface, but rehearsals are fun.
Stuck on the Zebra rehearsal 3rd race. I can get the first banana, but nowhere close to the +20 sec banana. is there a way to charge downward with the Zebra ZL charge ability? I get stuck at the needing to go down part.

You can just dive punch like normal through the water.

I beat it today. Really good, but a little long for my liking. Not my GOTY but in my top 4. I started the post game banana searching and I don't think I'm going to find the rest of them. I enjoyed my time with it, but I've had my fill. I know I'm bored with a game when I find myself running in circles while my mind day dreams instead of actually playing a game.

Finally......work has made me put off finishing the game the last couple of nights, but did it tonight. That ending.....yeah.....that ending. Wow

Not going to spoil a thing.

Great game. Deserves all the recognition. Loved it.

On to Tears of the Kingdom...

I finally finished the game what a boss fight and ending…fucking hell, that was AMAZING!

No doubt in mind this is my GOTY!

That's how you do final boss fight and ending!

Entering Layer 200, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised and enjoying this way more than DK64 back in the day or more recent titles like Mario Odyssey.
I wonder what's wrong with me, because the graphics are jarring and I usually can't stand loud chicks that sing all the time :messenger_hushed:

It will be criminal if Nintendo don't add an expansion to this. There's so much they could do with it.

Don't get too excited, it's great relative to a normal Nintendo game but that's about it, lol.
It was pretty darn amazing relative to any game I've played.
Can't think of many that revived a fan favorite franchise character after a 18 year absence in such a grand way. And that's all on top of the Mario Odyssey prequel connections and fan service.

Outstanding stuff imo.

I also the actual boss fight was so fun, the difficulty was just right and it was just pure hype!

Finished it today, as a big DKC fan I was grinning like an idiot for the whole last two hours

and also loved when he summoned a wrestling ring for the final fight in an obvious nod to DK64

Other than BG3 from last year after a 20+ year absence, lol. That's why I said it was relative, it's a decent ending for a Nintendo game, but not on par with rpgs like BG3, Expedition 33, Persona 3/5, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. About on par with like action games Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank from the ps2, back when they made these games more often/better. Maybe a better way for me to phrase it would be, it's a good ending for an action game, but nowhere remotely close to rpg levels.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Are serious with this!? Not only it one of the most boring final boss (I don't even think of as boss fight) it also didn't had great ending.

You saying DKB ending wasn't impressive and yet you put Horizon as example of great ending?

Haven't played any of those outside of Horizon personally, but hey, if they're as good as this, awesome!

Horizon isn't even in the same stratosphere though, imo.

Average game, great technically though.
Yeah, without going too far off topic, I played Forbidden West on PS4 and it's absolutely insane what they managed to pull off visually in that game on that platform.

Hopefully RETRO Studios will be a bit more active this gen, they're one of the few devs I feel could (or would be interested in/want to) really push the Switch 2 to those kind of more technical levels visually.

In Nintendo thats Monolith Soft in my opinion.
They're definitely up there as well imo. But on the Switch the Metroid Prime Remaster is the best looking game I've played.

I think the next Monolith game will be another big open world deal though, which will be more demanding for a lot of reasons. If RETRO makes Metroid Prime 5 natively for Switch 2 and it follows the current template I bet it'll look incredible despite any hardware limitations.

Yeah, next Monolith game is my most anticipated title on the system, especially if it's a new IP.

Next Level Games should also push the hardware, Luigi's Mansion 3 was the best looking Switch 1 title (they should give it an update for Switch 2 as well).

I played BG3, it really doesn't rock the boat too much. It's just a prettier meatier BG1/2, and I played those, and was not wowed by BG3. It's just a great game.

Would not compare that to what DKB is doing, it's not in the same level.

Haven't played it much over the last few days but I don't think I have 100% a single layer yet.
Skipped the first layers because of the boss rush and things, I'll come back to that but all Bananas in the lagoon layer are done. Only needed to buy one, talk about smashing the water and then find the 4 fractones. On to hill top.

Hill top was only the growtone. 2 done in 10 minutes. Hopefully they are all this quick.

Game is just great - but I finally did hit a slowdown point that I wasn't that fancy on. I did not particularly care for the Landfill layer, snake level, etc all of these smaller and more confined feeling areas. It felt like it was always a very short distance to immutable material, so not as much enjoyable digging and mobility about a level. I much prefer the "open"ish areas and as soon as I was down to the Feast Layer, I was having a good time again. Great game all around, such wonderful movement.

Finally fired it up!

I can't be the only one here that smashed every single thing in that first room before grabbing the banana…right? 😬

This shit is nuts and is already really complimenting my OCD. Bravo Nintendo.

The game is phenomenal throughout and lengthier than most of us expected which is great. However, the postgame seems pretty short and underwhelming. Rehearsals and Harmoneel are pretty great but they feel pretty small to be all there really is added (am I missing something?). Now I'm going back to collect all 777 bananas and I'm at 500 but wish there was more to be seen, ya know. Still a 10/10 game for me and it's mostly my addiction to the game talking but I'm surprised by the lack of a "star world" or something like it and the lack of challenge in the postgame. Harmoneel was hard, but I just used apple juice to make it easy. Still wanting to get all the bananas, but probably not all fossils and 120000 gold is a lot for the final upgrade. What do others think of the post game? Is boss/battle rush fun?

When you get 777, a new layer opens up but it has no bananas just piss water.

Post game is fine, I'll have to go back into a couple of rehearsals for a missed balloon or two.

Not liking the fashion fractones who I have to speak to wearing a certain outfit, that slows me right down and sometimes visit layers just for that.

It took me a while to realize that all of the sound effects that happen during dialog (like talking to the rocks or reading a sign) always follow the chord progression of the song currently playing. So they're actively adding to the background music in-key.

It's little things like that that literally only Nintendo (and now Team ASOBI) do in their games that make them feel so polished. It's awesome.

Yeah, and it gets worse, in a good way, I guess 😅

Could not leave Layer 100 before every single banana and fossil was found.
The stage looked like swiss cheese when I was done!

Good to know.
Amidst layer 200, I got almost 30000 pieces of gold already. I should have enough by the end, but it might take me 100 hours. Have to smash and collect everything 😁

I keep expecting the game to break or crash at some point. I'm still in that beginning mine fucking shit up.

What an achievement this is already 😧

it's fine if there's a closet next to it,
but there was 1 so far where I had to teleport back and forth to switch clothes, which was annoying.

Mario Odyssey's post game was way better tho so far that's for sure.
