Dont Listen to Orin, Guild Wars = Bad

He's trying to recruit people, me pretty often. I stand fast tho. Last time orin liked a game a lot of people suffered while I just stood by. Never again.

Play WoW, or just wait till another MMORPG comes out.

I didn't like Guild Wars at all. Amazing visuals, but the whole instanced world setup isn't worth the no monthly fee. I hated being in a group in the explorable zones and one of your guys would run off to a town to sell and it warped the entire party along with him.

The PVP requires you are in a guild with a teamspeak server as well. Good luck achieving anything with random teams as most people simply drop from the match after they die once anyway.

Since Guild Wars has no monthly fee, I will be purchasing it; that alone makes it worth trying out IMO.

wait what?

I meant by having no monthly fee, it's not worth having the entire world instanced. Sorry.

I'd rather have paid the 15 bucks a month to have it setup like WoW, Daoc, etc.

Allright. Heh, the way you worded it was a huge "wtf" :lol

Got two CEs on preorder, if MAF hates it it must be good.

Guild Wars isn't an MMO, so why is the fact that it doesn't have a monthly fee surprising?

Isn't "MMO-like," though? And Phantasy Star Online isn't an MMO, but it has a monthly fee. :)

So if I buy this expecting Diablo 2 in 3d will I be dissapointed?

Yep. Most people like Diablo 2 for the treasure hunt aspect. It's got LOADS of items. Guild Wars doesn't have a fraction of those items. The same crappy wands, staves, and swords drop over and over. Also, you have to create your armor specifically for your class via materials that drop from monsters.

The best thing about GW is the multi class system and the ton of skills you can get. You can equip 8 skills at a time before a mission, so it's important to find a good build that is effective and fun. Each class (6 total) has around 50 skills, so there are many different builds to play with.

I think it plays just like diablo 2, including the way loot drops... Just like in diablo the loot has random attributes making the total amount of weapons and armor almost unlimited. Plus, just like diablo there are randomly dropped unidentified items that fall into different sets just like in diablo. There are also rare and ultra rare drops that tend to come from stonger "glowing" named monsters, just like in diablo. In fact, i think the game is so much like diablo, that I am suprised there are no legal issues.

I was looking forward to this game and now this thread has officially depressed me. So in your opinions (those who have played) what kind of reviews is this game going to get? 7's?

I could have bought this game friday night. They had them in stock at Media Play. Didn't want to buy it without trying it first, though.

Sounds like its at least worth a shot. The way some people build it up I cant help but feel I will be dissapointed. From the gameplay videos I have seen it looks like any mmog. One of the things I love about Diablo 2 is the constant stream of enemys to hack through and the large ammounts that come at you at once.

The same thing happens in guild wars... If you do not have a party of three or four, you cannot survive in the post searing world.

PSO only has a monthly fee because Sega happens to be a bunch of fuckheads. There's never been an online game in existance less deserving of a fee than the ill-supported PSO.

I was in the most recent beta and walked away impressed. My final retail copy should arrive sometime next week, I think.

One thing Guild Wars really has going for it is it's art. The game looks fantastic. Screenshots don't do it any justice.

whats the point if you aren't sucking dick for sojs or constantly killing the countess for tir runes?

The game is built for pvp. Anyone playing it solely for pve will be disappointed no doubt. But then again there's no monthly fee so if you are just playing for pve aspect of the game it's not bad.

Untrue... I played through the entire beta without ever once trying the PVP. There is a TON of quests and missions that can be completed in groups or single player with henchmen. The game turns into a PVP fest once you hit the max level (currently 20), but until then there is a rich adventure to delve into.

Like I said, pve is pretty fun and functional but it's not meant to last in this game, at least not in its current state. I played a lot of it in previous beta. I'm gussing based on which mode people play more future expansion packs will reflect to it. You can get to lv20 and probably all the equipments you need for that level in less than a month of casual playing (say couple hours a day). Only thing that could possibily take longer is probably getting the elite skills.

How is loot handled in the game? I only played like one of the very first betas, and don't remember much. If it's at all similar to Diablo's Pop N Grab bullshit count me the fuck out.

It auto assigns drops to members in the group.

Man. The sad thing is I will likely still end up buying this. I hate the instanced crap, but I have to admit the PvP is pretty fun with a competent group.

I like the idea of instanced pvp. Every mmog since ultima online its been zerg or be zerged. Even if you get a 1 on 1 matchup most of them use the rock, paper, scissor philosophy.

Oh, I love the instanced PVP. It's the PVE being instanced I don't like. It sucks how you have to keep warping to a certain district in town to meet up with a friend or how if you take a group into the explorable portions of the world and someone zones into a town it transports everyone else with them, etc.
