Hell is Us |OT| The world speaks. Listen closely.

Finally got an update on my order

Now the only question is whether I can pull myself away from Silksong, need to wrap up Shinobi too. Looking forward to it though 👌

I like it so far but find it really strange that I'm wielding medieval weapons in a 1990s war torn country chock full of automatic weapons I can apparently never use. I'm guessing that will be explained somewhere down the road.

I've just arrived at the second area and I can wholeheartedly recommend this game.
It has such an incredible atmosphere and I'm hoping the story lives up to that too.

yep

Game is great, few hours in:

- Great use of Dual Sense
- good graphics
- good performance (outside of traversal stutter typical for UE5)
- incredible atmosphere
- great music
- mysterious story (seems inspired by Yugoslavia a bit?)
- gameplay is fun, combat is very solid
- no hand-holding.

They shows horrors of war in very serious way that is often avoided by games and even movies (pregnant women raped and killed, hanged children...).

Just the whole "We aint telling you shit" aspect sounds so appealing. It's like renting OG Zelda when I was 8. You got your sword and just left wondering what the fuck to do.

Alright, got my copy just now.

Installing and updating as we speak.

Really wish the demo had progress carry over to the final game, gonna have to do all that all over again, sigh.

I bought both this and Cronos, but this game is by far commanding my attention. Could very well end up being my GOTY, I haven't been this high on a game since Expedition 33, and Hell is Us is starting to slide past that one as the most impressive one I've played this year. The sheer atmosphere of it all, so black and heavy. The amazing soundscape the game gives you. The puzzles feeling very much part of the odd, near-reality that the devs have crafted here, the list of things to be impressed by seems endless. I don't want the journey to end, and I'm taking my sweet time with it to ensure it lasts as long as it can.

A quick thing.

I really wish the drone -> distraction thing was a single button mechanic instead of R2+O or RT+B.

It's so essential and useful in combat, it really should have been an instant-access thing.

Good luck!!!

Question:

Once I've maxed out my weapons to level 4 and there's no other weapon left for me to upgrade (at the moment, I'm sure I'll be running into some upgrade stuff with the materials I've picked up).

There's no real reason to engage in combat, other than to upgrade weapons, right? I can just run past the enemies?

It seems at times the enemies are there just to be there for you to have something to do when you're not doing puzzle solving. So I assume you can just go past them. I personally fought most of them just to make it feel like a full game I'm experiencing.

You might want to close the time loops, for this you need to kill specific (unmarked) enemies in the level, although you have an item which somewhat can guide you to them.

If you are not interested, you can easily bypass them. BTW max level is 5 and not 4

Ok, I've changed my mind. The Pole Arm is the best weapon. Reach + speed + damage about as good as the sword, where the Axe is weak.

edit:

Some pics from the base PS5 Performance mode.

You know modern media is completely fucking useless when they can't even count how many enemies a game has, it is more than 5, let me tell you that.

I thought i was close to the end but apparently i'm like half way through :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

So I gotta ask, how strong is the FOMO since the game doesn't guide you anywhere? Is there a risk of missing important stuff without the option to go back?

There is some FOMO while playing because the game does a great job making the player wanting to help the people in the game but if you pay attention to the conversations and items you pick up, you will be able to resolve everything and not miss content

There's a decent number of hints and your datapad keeps key information in, you have a pretty handy compass that helps you and some parts of the game even give you an item map that you can use to navigate the world using in-world landmarks.

It's not that different from Atomfall if you've played that, though Atomfall does give you a traditional map but it doesn't annotate it until you get info from an NPC or item.

edit: Found the glypth that restores health and stamina on enemy kills, now we're cooking with fire.

Yep I finished Atomfall and liked it (not loved it though). It's really a shame that the demo is PC only, I'd love to check it out before making a purchase. I'll keep it on my wishlist and wait for a sale.

Demo is available on consoles.

I tried it on xbox, didn't really gelled with the combat. Either its sloppy or am not getting it. Either ways, decided to hold off based on that.
