Doom (2016) PC performance thread

Btw, for those of you who didn't know, you can change your default steam cover for this game and put on the alternate version. Right click it in your steam library and click "set custom image" and upload this:

Awesome
Thanks

I have a gtx 960 2 gb card and it doesn't matter what the settings are. My frame rate barely nudges unless I lower the resolution to 720p. However, if I turn off AA my frame rate actually LOWERS to 30 fps. Weird. Being a PC gamer is difficult sometimes. I was having a blast playing the game before I became curious about my fps. Now I'm obsessed with trying to raise my frame rate, even though I didn't care before I seen lol.

So I have a r9290 and a amd processor how all ready dead am I?
Also does this game not support pads on pc. Im on a couch before you say...

I have a 770 and an i5-2500K, am I better of getting this on PS4?

Will you be upgrading your GPU any time in the near future? I think if you don't care about mouse and keyboard I'd say PS4, running @ 60fps on consoles definitely makes it good alternative for those with an older PC.

It's on the wishlist but probably a good few months off.

I can't get my game to run uncapped on PC, is there something obvious I'm missing? V-Sync is disabled in Nvidia control panel, and also set to off in the game menu. Help!

Jesus Christ where do I change the framerate cap?

Open the console (~) and type in com_maxfps x, where x is your desired cap.

Edit: Oh, the command isn't in Doom for some reason. You'll have to use RTSS (see the OP).

So what are the most expensive settings? I can run the game at a steady 60fps on ultra but as soon as I'm in a room with a Gore Nest or other heavy volumetric effects then the framerate drops to exactly 30.

Just wondering what I should disable first.

6700k @ 4.5ghz
GTX980 Ti ~1400mhz/ ~+200 mem - 365.19 drivers
16gb DDR4 2800mhz

Everything ultra/nightmare, CA off, motion blur off, TSSAA 8x, 60-130+ish fps at 1440p. Gsync takes care of the rest.

Plays so well, love it.

definitely shadows. second thing is probably reflections.

I've been testing 2 scenarios.

1. GTX 970m (3gb) + i7 4710MQ -> I'm probably averaging around 50 fps on high. Outside areas I am pretty much locked 60 but its when I head inside it drops to mid 40's

2. GTX 960 (2gb) + FX-6300 -> Averaging around 45 fps on a mixture of high/medium. Again outside I get close to 60 but heading inside it dives down, lowest I've seen is 29 fps.

Pretty happy with performance so far. Is there a way to lock FPS at 30? I'd probably prefer the stability of fps rather than the large jerky jumps.

Haven't tested multiplayer yet but I'm assuming it is going to run pretty well.

So here's something annoying. Whenever the FPS drops below 60 at all, it gets capped at 30 until it can hold 60 again. There's no in between. Any fix for this? Normal vsync is on, screen tearing is never worth it.

Is anyone else noticing that Doom doesn't track your game activity on Steam?

It's a minor problem and hope that ID patches it.

The app still has the section_type = ownersonly flag applied, which limits the public display of community activity.

Bethesda may be playing dumb so SteamSpy can't scrape together ownership data, but Valve will eventually remove the flag if need be. There was a similar problem with AssCreed Syndicate.

Wireless xbox one controller doesn't seem to be working at all. When I press a button it recognizes the controller and switches to the controller GUI but none of the buttons do anything.

Any ideas?

Ah, that's very odd considering that few steam games have this problem.

Vsync is doing that. Seems like old double-buffering option.

try enabling triple buffering in your gpu settings.

Turning off chromatic abboration can gain you some fps

There's a launch setting that uses all cores / threads of the CPU on older stuff that looks like it nets a decent gain too

Can anyone explain to me why the FPS drop like a rock here? what I'm I looking at that is so taxing, going from 30 to 60fps every few seconds in the previous fight in this place fucked me really bad, any tips to get locked 60fps are really appreciated, not even medium settings could get me to raise the FPS count in this particular spot.

i5 2500K @4.2GHz
780 factory OC'd to 1071mhz
16GB RAM
128GB Crucial SSD

Playing in default High Setting.

Seems like a bug, because You are fully CPU limited.

I doubt it, a lot of games near release still have the flag for a bit before the pub remembers to remove the flag.

Hell, Dead Rising 2 steamworks had the flag on it for like 6 months before someone over at capcom said "oh fuck we forgot that" and turned community features on.

Of course games near release still have the flag applied; the entire point of it is to limit the amount of information that Steam displays publicly. The issue with Dead Rising 2 was Capcom making the app private again, which, yeah, made exactly zero sense.

Playing in default High Setting.

I have had similar issues with my 780Ti and been looking for a cause for a while now. At first I thought it was Vsync, then the Virtual Texture Page File or whatever it's called. Today I got 30 fps locked after dying with Vsync off and the Virtual Texture stuff set to high. Only a restart of the game fixed it.

I also have a 2500k btw.

Guessing my 7970 ghz is going to bite it big with this game for now. I was going to get it tonight, too, but going to hold off for a bit. :|

Well this sucks... I certainly can't play like that, it takes me out of the game and I start fiddling with the graphics, but nothing I do seem to work.

Everyone - please download the latest Nvidia drivers if you're team green. I got over 10% in performance boosts due to this alone. Can now play at nearly all Ultra at 1440p at 60FPS now when before I'd frequently dip into the low 50s.

FreeSync doesn't seem to work here, often the game is running half the refresh rate(45 in my case).

Having to switch to 144 Hz just to run a 72 fps most of the time =/

So I did some testing and I really can't get my game to look or perform any different. Low and ultra presets perform and look identical to me without doing a screenshot comparison..

Standing in the exact same place at the start of a level I get ~85fps no matter what setting I use.

Even tried a restart to see if that helped, did nothing.

i5 4690k
evga Gtx 980 sc
8 gb ram

On ultra preset at 1080p with FOV at 120 the game hovers around 100 to 110 for most of the time, going as high as 160 and dropping as low as 80ish. Looks great.

It's running beautifully on my system. I can't wait to see how high I can push it when we get the other API and SLI support.

Playing at 1080p, with Ultra, chromatic aberration turned off, and FOV at 110. I don't think it's gone below 60 fps.
