Doom (2016) PC performance thread

Same as consoles.
I think all the controller settings from consoles are here and aim assist can be turned on/off.

I've tried with aim assist off, felt pretty good. Even made a video to show that I could jump/hop around/strafe and shoot quite well despite using controller and no aim assist hah.

Thanks. Sealing my decision to go with PC over PS4 then.

That would be debatable I imagine. :P
Regard your CPU perf on the last page... I think the game is API and driver bound in some areas... but otherwise CPU heavy due to AI and unique entities in other areas. Vulkan should help unleash your beast CPU.

You doubt me? I'll make a proper 5 min video and post it here. :P
But I'm probably among the upper echelon of pad players skill wise so I'm by no means representative of others hah.

The only thing is shadowplay performance hit brings the FPS around 40s for me so it becomes jerky.

I had the same problem.
Solution:
Device manager, right click on Xbox wireless controller, troubleshoot, let it do its thing, should say there was a usb issue.

For some reason I have two of those now: fixed!

Yeah, Worked it out, I had a 360 controller installed from previous that was taking up player 1. Uninstalled and rebooted and fixed.

Could be, I didn't track mem usage on high on that card but with my 970 VRAM usage is 3.8GB on Ultra, and id Tech games being VRAM hungry isn't surprising anyway.

Is that 1080p ultra?

My nano only uses at most 2.3gb at 1080p ultra, or is that due to the Radeons compression?

Once so far. Right after finishing a rune trial.

I had a few activating the first airlock, been fine since then.

I can't believe how flawless this game runs @ max settings with just a 970. I've yet to encounter a single moment where I notice any frame drops.

970, 8GB of RAM and 2600k here.
I was expecting a flawless 60 on ultra but it sometimes drops quite a bit during gunfights. There's also that one room, I think in level 4, with a bunch of aquariums with plants in them, where the framerate locks at 30, even at low settings.

What gives?

Did you upgrade to the newest driver? I got a 15-20 FPS bump just from upgrading.

Sounds like v-sync only using double buffering instead of tripple buffering. It's doing the same here on i7 5960x, 64GB DDR4, Fury X even with OGL tripple buffering enabled in drivers.

Only solution is playing with v-sync off but unless you get a monitor with like 120+ Hz you'll likely see screen tearing then.

I'm fucking stupid. Carry on.

Ingame V sync uses double buffering by default.
Either turn it to adaptive or force triple buffering which will induce a bit of mouse lag.
Other thing being even after changing those settings if it drops every now and then to 50s or even 40s (not 30s), then you are being CPU limited because a 970 when paired with good CPU should easily achieve 60FPS at 1080P and ultra.

Edit: Or it's just the driver.

This. Just some odd drops here and there.

I can't disable mouse smoothing no matter what I do..

I've added it to the launch options, edited the cfg, updated my drivers, rebooted my PC etc.

I think latest drivers just killed my performance. Was playing at (mostly) 60 fps yesterday. Updated driver this morning and now the game runs at 10-40 fps. Anyone else having this problem? I'm on a 3GB GTX 780, playing on 1080 ultra settings (I put motion blur on medium though). Not sure what to do now. I guess I could try reinstalling old drivers. In the meanwhile I ended up losing a ton of progress by selecting a previous mission to see if it would run better there. It doesn't. :(

edit: and now it doesn't even run at 10 fps anymore...

I have the same card although mine is factory overclocked considerably.

What's your CPU and driver version?

I don't think the OP is correct. I found that m_smoothing 0 is the cvar you want. You can't set m_filter 0.

Hello,

I have a 970GTX Factory OC'd
Really old but trusty i5-3570K @ 4.4GHZ
16GB Ram
SSD
AOC G-Sync 144Hz 1080P Monitor.

What sort of performance/settings can I expect?
I need a game to hold me until Overwatch is out.

I'm assuming you mean 970. You'll be able to run it at Ultra without a single drop below 60 fps at 1080p. You should be able to get 60-90 at least. Probably averaging ~80.

Is screen tearing being used as a graphical flourish? I used rivatuner to cap at 60 in borderless windowed mode and still get tearing.

unless you have a special kind of 780, this game shouldn't be able to run @60fps on it, I have a Gigabyte 780 GHz edition and I'm playing on default high settings with drops on very rare spots, playing on Ultra tanks my framerate to 30fps constantly.

I actually had a little boost in performance with the new drivers.

yeah 970, typo there, so that's cool I guess I'll buy it then, game is quite a looker for what I've seen on videos.

Nothing special about it. I also said mostly. It's not completely stable 60, it's more 55-60. It drops to 45 occasionally, but never further. Also I put motion blur on medium which I think might've given it a tiny boost.

Have you reached the foundry level? I've just got there and my performance has gone from super smooth to shit the bed poor. Feels like 30fps.

Wtf
