Motion blur is absolutely incredible in doom 2016 and 2020. Leave it on! Just max out everything. Dof and CA are not bad. I think dof only activates in cutscenes etc.well in the meantime i'm buying doom 2016 on pc for 4,50 euros, let's see how it goes.
any graphics option to activate or deactivate for better graphics? or i can just put everything on ultra? (except blur, dof and CA that i hate to the guts)
Man, completed that first secret encounter in stage 6 and died as soon as it popped that I beat it.
Thank fuck it saved my progress and I don’t have to do it over
The SE’s stress me out more than anything else

i will give it a try, i usually love a sharp image in every occasion so these thing are first i disable in every game.Motion blur is absolutely incredible in doom 2016 and 2020. Leave it on! Just max out everything. Dof and CA are not bad. I think dof only activates in cutscenes etc.
I've did some testing of 60fps doom with Motion blur vs 240hz doom on 240hz monitor.
The 60hz with motion blur (to my eye) looked EXACTLY like 240hz without motion blur. My explanation is, at 240fps/hz, there are enough frames to fill all the holes in your brain, while at 60hz, the motion blur helps cheating through it.
Depends what game you are playing. They all play a bit differently due to the enemy roster.Well. BFG was the only real mass crowd control, rockets were meh.
But far more forgiving. Doom has always been dick pinching hard on UV.
holy shit why doom2016 on pc is 70gb?

I'm with you on the platforming, it's awful, just awful. Clunky bullshit. For me, the 2 or 3 interesting gunfights in the first 3 levels did not outweigh the overused platforming, shoehorned upgrading/leveling/XP nonsense, unnecessary cutscenes, directionless storytelling, terrible UI and general arcadeyness of it all. I am a huge fan of the original Doom games and the 2016 remake, but this is missing the point for me. I might revisit it when it's $20, but this isn't what I wanted out of this game at all.
I gotta be honest, the original Doom is brutally fucking hard on Ultra Violence. At least it's quick, i'm already on the second episode.
It's fun as Hell tho, i can't believe how much id Software nailed the formula over 20 years ago. It's about as 'ageless' as you can get, tho it would have been harder to get into without the immense modding community. The original resolution was 320x200 IIRC. I actually tried that to play it purely vanilla .. and it's literally almost impossible to see anything at that resolution. So i stuck with a 99% vanilla playthrough, the only things i altered is adding the Smooth Doom mod and increasing the resolution at my native monitor.
Yeah, that hit me like a brick as well, i wanna replay Doom 2016 as well. My SSD is quite small (250GB), and i'll have to uninstall Doom Eternal to do so.
I'm on a genuine Doom roll. They're all way to good not to replay to have a fresh perspective on the entire series.
I'll have to contemplate what version of Doom 3 to install as well.
i don't have too many games installed right now so it's not really a problem, also 70gb are around 1 hour of download.I gotta be honest, the original Doom is brutally fucking hard on Ultra Violence. At least it's quick, i'm already on the second episode.

i'm more surprised because usually open world games or games with a lot of cutscene are the heavy games, i was expecting like 30 gb tops for this one.
any advice about choosing open gl or vulkan in the options? the demo with open gl was buttery smooth at 4k60ultra but maybe vulkan is even better?
It's definitely harder, and I think that may be the issue some folks may have. The AI can be pretty relentless, on top of that, some of the levels get a bit too claustrophobic with that many enemies rushing you. So it's hard not to panic in some instances. The few times I died I was either surrounded or forced into a corner where I couldn't dash out or move to give me clearance. Then you have the skill trees and the combat flow that I think some people may just ignore or not feel comfortable with. This game seems to be way, way harder than Doom 2016 the story was also quite disappointing. last boss is a chore and everything about narration is pure embarrassment. Lastly, the graphics are some of the best I have seen in a game.

Ugh man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.Well my computer stopped working so now I can’t play this game and I’m getting shit from jackasses in gaming for complaining about it. So this is already turning into a shitty day for me.
Probably return it on Steam and get it for PS 4 Pro.
I was getting micro stutters on my 1080 too, it was driving me crazy! I disabled a setting and everything was fine after that. I'll check and see what it was when I hop back in.Doom Eternal has real time cutscenes, only thing that would take up more space is the audio since it's all rendered in real time. Doom 2016 has snapmap, multiplayer, campaign and some MP DLC.
Vulkan was better for me and allowed me to keep 144fps most if not all the time. I had weird stutters from time to time with open gl (gtx 1080).
2070super and 8600k.Depends what card and CPU you are running.
At that point I believe Open GL is the better option as its slightly more stable. People have reported a couple of weird crashes related to vulkan. But Vulkan mainly saw a huge gain on lower end CPUS and AMD GPUS.2070super and 8600k.
There is a photo mode in the game, but I haven't checked if it can be used during battles.Really wish the game would have a photo mode where you could admire the doom slayer at work.
Spoiling a new enemy encounter with a tutorial prompt is really dumb, had to turn those off.
Why is the last refuge of a fanboy always this when faced with criticism of their precious?Get good and you'll be fine.
Oh stop. Why is the last refuge of a fanboy always this when faced with criticism of their precious?
I wasn't aware you could them off. They really should make that clear and have it be something you toggle right at the beginning. Some things irk me... Spoiling a new enemy encounter with a tutorial prompt is really dumb, had to turn those off. Sound mixing is awful either on headphones or 5.1.
And while I echo the sentiments that it's mostly more micro-managing cooldown bars more than a shooter, I'm sure it will all come together later on like a souls game (heh), for now I will turn down the difficulty and play more around the very extensive options.
Second one hit me the hardest. Took me forever.Fourth Slayer Gate down!
First try!
GODDAMN
Second one hit me the hardest. Took me forever.
Most of GAF will dismiss your comment as flippant, but they shouldn't. This game really does require more and different skills from the player, compared to 2016. And a lot of people who loved that game will be put off by Eternal at first. And it may never click with some of them.
This is low key like learning a new language. While you're struggling with it, it's not as fun as speaking your first language that you're already fluent in. But then once you get it down, once you have that muscle memory for how the flow works, then everything falls into place and new experiences are offered to you. I think that's what is going on here. Eternal is very different from 2016, and it just requires a lot more from the player. It's going to take us time to get into that new flow, and some people never will (even if they manage to finish it, ironically).
For those of us who are picking it up well early on, the extra challenge is fun and rewarding and way better than anything 2016 could have offered. For others it is just frustrating. Neither side is "wrong" objectively, it's just some people are not given to enjoy what Eternal asks of the player. And that does mean Eternal is somewhat more hardcore and niche than 2016 was. And that's okay. Maybe they'll never "git gud" enough to speak it fluently, and they'll hate it. And it's their loss, but such is life.
One of the complaints of the 2016 game was how it failed to introduce new elements and enemies after about 30-40% through.
Has this game done a better job of that? Not that it will keep me from ripping or tearing...
Also, have they finally fixed the horrible sound mixing? That was a major problem for me in the past game.
I'll be damned. You are right, found it.There is a photo mode in the game, but I haven't checked if it can be used during battles.
