DOOM |OT| Rip and tear, until it's done

That's the foundry, and there's no Cacodemons to be found there.
Oh snap, you're right. I was confusing it for early on in Mission 7, I think, where you turn the corner and there is a horde of Possessed and an explosive barrel, followed by two Revenants and then the Cacodemons. Similar-looking area.

Those first two examples you linked seem to be out of place (Cyberdemon is only a boss in the final game), but that last example is actually in the game — that's part of Mission 7.

1. Cyberdemon never appears with a Revenant, or indeed with anyone other than himself since he's a boss.

2. Cyberdemon only appears in the boss arena, and never in the level shown behind him here.

3. You never return to the Foundry after going there the first time, and the Cacodemon doesn't appear until later on.

All 3 of those pictures feature demon layouts which never occur in the final game.

8 hours? I'm only half way done and I've played at least that long. People must not be exploring...

Yeah, I knew that with the first two, but I mistook the last screen for a later mission.

I'm guessing they're screenshots they took from an earlier build. It's interesting they were still finalizing the enemy arrangements at that point.

It's also hard to picture Cyberdemon as just a regular enemy. I wonder if he had less moves at one point.

I have no idea :X TNO was fairly average to me. Good shooting mechanics but everything else was kinda meh. But Doom... damn, I love all the little things here like the upgradable weapons, challenges, map design, crazy enemies....
You have to connect with the characters for TNO to click with you. What they did with BJ was fairly remarkable and there are some memorable side characters with well-written dialogue, as well. It's a good shooter, but that's not what makes it really special.

I think it's cool that we can have the two franchises come back in such different ways and yet still be so successful in their execution. They sit nicely together, not necessarily apt for direct comparisons.

Congratulations on denying yourself the satisfaction of finding it yourself.

I hope it wasn't a classic map lever because those follow a pretty clear pattern of being near the door

I had to Google the lever in the first map. Couldn't find the last secret anywhere. I didn't know the levers were a thing. Must have walked past that door 100 times and ignored it.

I haven't played TNO, but I can tell that it's its own thing. And that's pretty cool. Like you said, they're different but they go together nicely as a pair of well-done id revivals.

Felt like more than 8 hours to me, and I blasted through it without really exploring knowing I could go back on the mission select and look for secrets, which is what I'm doing now.

It's an extremely replayable game IMO, although maybe that's because I'm finding stuff I didn't on my first playthrough. I really want to max out those upgrades :) I hardly ever replay games but I don't want to stop playing this. Definitely worth it IMHO.

I'll start this if I can ever pull myself away from Uncharted 4. Trying to make progress toward the Platinum for that and I'm afraid if I don't just go ahead and go through with it that I may get too sidetracked, but I'm sickly excited to play it after all the impressions. It sounds great and I can't wait to hear the soundtrack as well.

I think it's cool that MachineGames turned the shifty-eyed blonde guy from Wolfenstein 3D into a relatable and memorable character with real emotions, but I think it's also cool that iD went the John Carmack "video game stories are like porn" approach and just made a really kickass, balls-to-the-wall straight up shooter.

I think it's a cool time to be an FPS fan, especially one with nostalgia for both franchises. Wolf3D was my first FPS, DOOM was my second. Here I am in 2016 celebrating the revivals of both franchises one right after the other and I think that's just fucking awesome.

What impresses me most about Wolfenstein is how they turned it into a character study of a character that probably didn't even deserve one. BJ went 22 years as one of the most generic protagonists in games (look at Raven's depiction of him in 2009's Wolfenstein for an especially generic representation) and MachineGames said "I think we can do something more with this", and they did it. I respect the hell out of that.

My biggest complaint with this game, which is more of a compliment, is I'll never be able to play first person shooters again that are not like this.

Steamspy has this at 400k+ copies now.
To put that in comparison to a recent release,Battleborn is sitting at 100k+.

Game is doing great :)

Yeah, that has me really interested to try TNO. They took a blank slate character and they made the most of it by spinning a compelling yarn.

At the same time, I also appreciate Doom's more "self-insert" approach to the hero.

Yep. Celebrate this.

Not got Doom yet but TNO is probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite game of the gen so far.

Anyone else playing with the Strafe control setting using a controller? Being able to jump and aim at the same time makes such a difference.

It hurts me when I watch video reviews that are clearly console footage and I don't see the guy jumping around like a maniac. Bunnyhop or die.

I think Strafe scheme is pretty essential to Ultra-Violence or Nightmare.

Man going back to Halo after playing Doom exclusively for a week has been so hard. It just seems so much slower. So hard to adjust back.

I've seen some mentions of crashing on PC and was like guess I'm lucky,
Yesterday and today the game has crashed twice each day. Just a hard complete close to desktop. 980Ti for informative purposes so just curious was it ever figured out what is causing said crashes?

Just noticed the GAF shoutout on the Snapmap menu. Am I late to this or did they update the menu recently to switch out the tiles?

Has anybody in here tried custom co-op maps yet? Are they any good? I really want to buy this game for co-op but still not sure if it is actually good.

The SnapMap creations are going to get better but it is heavily restricted at the moment. There are a lot of things that iD need to include to make the tools more robust.

SnapMap is like a weird middle ground where you can almost make full single player content and almost make full multiplayer content but the tools are only about 70% there for either.

I wouldnt buy DOOM solely for SnapMap at the moment.

The characterization in New Order is the most pleasant surprise I've ever encountered with a game. I had no idea that the game would be so well written before going in.

Some of those quotes are crazy. "Best shooter of 2016!" Only five months in with a decent amount of shooters still set for release.
I can't think of a single upcoming shooter that could possibly compare. More generic multiplayer games? No thanks.

Yeah there are some really good ones already. Survival type ones similar to say Call of Duty's Zombies mode, old school "get to the end" type maps with secrets, tower defense type games, obstacle course style races, boss fights, I even saw someone's take on the MOBA genre lol.

Now that they're starting to curate the massive amounts of maps a bit more too it seems likes it's gunna be easier to find the best ones.

That being said, there are some limitations to SnapMap for now. My main issues so far are that not all of the weapon upgrades are available to give to the players, the multiplayer 2-weapon loadout is enforced on all maps, and there is very little variety in the map environments (no hell maps).

Other than those things I have some minor nitpicky complaints here and there, but for the most part I think SnapMap is pretty good for co-op right now.

It's hard to find good Snapmaps to play. Every category they give you is literally filled with almost the exact same maps anyways. I still haven't even gotten to try a good old fashioned deathmatch map yet, no one seems to join my games when I host.

Thats a problem im having as well. If i try and join an open lobby it will just dump me into an empty one. If I stay in that empty lobby no one joins. This is for broader categories as well like "Join a lobby for COOP".

Either something is borked with the matchmaking or no one is playing multi in Snap mode.

I just got my Doom and Doom 2 Xbox One pre-order codes, but I already own both of them.

So I'm giving my codes away free of charge.

Quote this post to get them just remember first come first serve.
