Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

I think it's more for mana starved Agi heroes who get an early ring as their sole mana sustain (like brood, for example).

WR is flexible enough with her itemization that she doesn't need yet ANOTHER regen item.

I don't care.

And doing some mathcrafting:

Two Wraith Bands (970 gold):

6 Damage
12 Agility
6 Strength
6 Intelligence

Ring of Aquila (985 gold):

9 Damage
6 Agility
3 Strength
3 Intelligence
1 Armor
2 Armor aura
0.65 Mana Regen aura

Wraith Bands are the offensive choice and Ring is the defensive choice. I could certainly see getting the ring on Viper/Razor using Wraith Bands on Drow/Sniper.

This is the problem. It is always always always always always always always more important to get a blink on a hero like SK, ES or Enig than some low-impact support item.

By the time they get Arcane Boots + Blink dagger, the time for drum is pretty much over.

Let's not act like SK is worthless before Blink Dagger. An early Drum lets you gank like a madman and general Burrowstrike/Sand Storm shenanigans along with the Drum's mobility makes you pretty damn godlike earlygame (unless they Dust you). Especially if you went solo mid.
Shutting those carries down is sometimes more important than a quick Blink Dagger unless the other team is actively 3-5 man pushing early.

Not really sure how going for an Urn turns you into that much of a better ganker, especially when Urn is a much better item for ganking.

mobility on blink dagger > mobility on drum and why are you going solo mid on sand king.

What about the Mana aspect? I see Sand Kings run out of Mana pretty often, the +78 Mana could be more useful earlish game then having anther active that costs 75 mana.

oh i absolutely agree he'd be good mid, but he's so good in a side lane and there are a lot of heroes who would need mid more (like puck or something).

So I got a Visa Giftcard today for Christmas and am debating getting one of those Dota 2 mousepads off the Valve store. Are these really worth it or are mousepads altogether just a scam?

Yeah, I don't really think a Drum on Sand King makes since to be honest. If you just wanted the mana even, you could just buy a Null Talisman and sell it later.

It really works best when you have two Int Supports, have one grab the mek, and the other grab the drum. But it is an odd item. Its good, but it doesn't seem to really fit into the game flow.

I can't really think of a situation where you'd want to delay the blink dagger on Sand King (minus making Arcane Boots, love those). Everything he does becomes improved for having it. Stunning, running (directly blinking away, or waiting in sandstorm for the blink to come off cd), getting the ultimate off, everything. I make do until I get it, but I'm so much more effective in my role for having it.

I like drum on vs. usually it's kinda lol because I swap in someone and then we lose the command aura and the drum aura.

vs gonna vs

Which of the supports you prefer most, guys? My choice is Dazzle, just love playing him. It's such a warm feeling to fail enemy's gank with Shallow Grave.

I'm fond of Dazzle (most reliable), WR (most fun) and Lina (zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaao).

Would anyone like to adopt a newbie? I recently got an invite and two (private against AI) games later I don't feel like I've learned anything and feel kind of lost. I just need to annoy someone with lots of questions :)

Edit: I remember them talking about a coaching system when they announced the game. That's still coming, right?

Lina is a ganker like AA to me, not true support.

But she's fragile as hell. Tried to play with her, ended with the worst K/D ratio in the team. What should I do beside buying bracers?

They have the same VA.

Playing CM and ending up with a terrible KDR is to be expected.

I have grown to love Vengeful Spirit on the right teams. Dazzle is a close second. Shadow Shaman is frustrating to play for a newbie.

I don't really have a response for that line of thinking, but I think your being facetious so I don't think it matters

No offence but that was a pub way to "teach" people. It's easier to teach newer players when you don't put them in the defencive from the start by calling them shit and laughing at them.
After that they won't listen anything you say no matter how right you might be.

he didnt even have a microphone or sound
nobody called them shit until they talked back to us about their stupid pro mechanism build and wasted their ult on creep waves
we were basically playing on 500 ping which was annoying enough, but when you add in a support that doesnt buy wards and just sits behind the tower hitting creeps when they get there, you have to question whoever showed them the game without explaining the basics.

im guessing you are the one who showed him the pro builds on playdota or whatever

dont get me wrong, we were too tired/drunk to care
but he should really start listening and not following pro guides so that the next people dont have to rage

I conflate support with being a ward bitch.

And I'm pretty much always ward bitch unless Swag is playing his tryhard CM.

Not taking sides or anything then if not guides then how do teach someone the basics? Because there is a lot to learn, and I would say I am familiar with the game. Except the last time I regularly played DOTA All-stars, it was version 4.XX. Hell, my little brother is the one trying to explain to me things like how to ward or how the jungle properly - things I never did back in the day.

I know the beta doesn't do the best job teaching the basics sometimes, the coaching system as far as I can tell is mostly informal and at-your-own-risk and playing with bots is hardly helpful either.

WHO ARE THESE TRYHARDS

edit: For those playing supports (noticed this in the current above game), you are not a useless asset to the team if you have no boots 20 minutes in. Yes, you might be struggling with gold and won't be able to farm safely, but prioritizing wards over boots is a bad, bad idea at this point. It is a must-have item and you are incredibly vulnerable without them. If you don't have boots by 10 minutes, SAVE YOUR GOLD AND BUY THEM. You will quickly become food otherwise.

No I was not. Not that there is anything wrong with playdota guides. If I would want to teach someone how to play I would much rather show him a guide made by someone much better than me or you.

I alot of people don't have a microphone or aren't talking :o Kinda silly assumption that he would? My biggest gripe with your comment was how you made it look we lost just because of him. We all played bad and some even worse than Lich.

You seemed to care enough to start calling him a retard and posting about him on GAF. Maybe next time don't play when you are too drunk to realize you should probably stop teaching him through mic when he said he doesn't have sound.

that was the game we lost the hardest ;_;

bzm can't carry

I just went through the exact same situation in that CM comic that was posted a few pages back.

I think I am done getting dumpstered for the night.

P.S , getting shat on by your teammates for warding really sucks.

Yeah...didn't think it'd be an issue playing with the elites on our team since in the last game they crushed. But when Huskar takes you to half health with two burning spear hits, and the Lich outranges you, it quickly became obvious we weren't gonna win that top lane even if I still had boots. Felt like it was more important to try and keep wards down for vision of NS ganks.

I sometimes play Witch Doctor!

This reminds me. I was playing Witch Doctor in an IH the other day and someone told me to turn the aura off when I was healing them with it. Why did they tell me this? They were Puck and backed up slightly at mid and was missing about 1/8 of his health, so I was healing him.

In your particular game, what really happened was 1. bottom lane was severely outplayed, feeding their carries, and 2. top lane was severely outlaned. The best move you guys could have made was to either have tide come top and just let bottom fall, OR to rotate your lanes and let CM and Antimage go mid. Lich Huskar is such a tough lane, it's better if you guys just put someone who doesn't need gold up there like Tide if you aren't going to do a lane that can beat it.

I understand trying to put down wards for NS ganks, but twenty minutes in and it's already second night. Get your boots!

What kind of keyboard configuration do you guys use? The default one (items bound to 4-9 on a keypad) just feels wrong (I'm talking standard keyboard here). I'm thinking about changing it to A-D/Z-C (with right-click denying, I don't need the A key).

and that awesome guide got him to buy mechanism first when he cant even last hit or ward
terrible idea
its like bringing an obese person to a marathon and telling everyone "dont worry guys i showed him the right technique"

Slightly modified standard. I don't use right click deny, just in case I misclick, plus it just feels more satisfying to do A + click when I deny. I use 1-6 (NOT the numpad) for items. F1-F whatever for control groups. Tab for scoreboard. / for Courier. Space for hero select (I have no "view recent event" key, I don't need it since this is Dota and you know where everything will happen). I also enable the "Ctrl + click moves all units you control" Really comes in handy for Broodmother and other heroes with underlings. Otherwise, I believe everything else is default.
