Man I'm never going to sleep tonight. I mean I've played LoL ect ect and had winning streaks and good games that take a while to come down off of but nothing compares to this. Dota is where its at and if you think otherwise then thats cool but man, THIS STUFF IS IT!!!

Played with Vehn and a couple of other GAF members and I havent lost yet! 7 in a row and 3 of those were tonight. I don't know if I will ever get off this high from winning cuz on top of that its Christmas Eve!!!

So just got in today. Played one game, but it looks a little too similar to DOTA... I was hoping for changed terrain at least haha. Maybe I should play more games and I'll encounter a different terrain set, or just get back into the thick of things again.

yeah dota 2 is dota: source. don't expect anything more.

Gamastura: So the strategy then is to harness talent, or collaborate with talent.

Gabe Newell: Yeah, I'd go with "collaborate", more than "harness." Although in [Valve software developer] Adrian [Finol]'s case, I like the idea of thinking of him...

Erik Johnson: Leashing. In Adrian's case, we leash talent.

Gabe Newell: In fact, I really suggest that you insist that you get a photo to accompany that part of your article. "This is Adrian. He's on a leash."

Erik Johnson: We have Photoshop.

Look at this fucking asshole

LOOK AT HIM.

What a joke.

It wasn't fun playing against him, it wasn't fun playing WITH him.

God damn if you want to play a PvE game go play WoW or something.

(My DK too heavy)

I'd really like it if Captain's Mode was introduced in the near future to matchmaking. Have the best player do the picking, could actually bring some sense into team compositions. Separate this from the AP pool or something. Would love the idea of having some heroes banned and the possibility of team play.

AS it is now, in match making you pretty much can only hope that whoever you gets matched up will want to work on a team comp.

Having a CM option would be great for matchmaking.

This would be nice, however I'm not sure it would help. The chances that someone that doesn't want to communicate with the team doing all the picking and banning would really suck. I do hate in all pick that no one discusses who is going what. This is how we end up with teams of 5 carries when everyone just picks willy nilly. They give you a long time to pick and a chat box right there on the hero selection screen, USE THEM.

Note to self, ganker Gondar only works when your team knows what they're doing.

Should've just afk farmed.

that patch is a sight to behold. gives us a window into the future of dota under valve, and the future looks bright.

i swear i'm not just saying this because i have been waiting over half a decade for Axe buffs. :P

Been playing a ton of 6.73 in my spare time today and here are some thoughts on the new heroes:

-Shredder feels totally balanced to me. He's not easy to use, Timber is an awkward skill shot since it latches onto the first tree it hits, and his damage output isn't really that high. He's an awesome utility ganker and I dig him a lot. I think he's best put in an aggressive dual lane with like Crystal Maiden or Venomancer. I'm committed to learning this guy inside and out, he seems like he has a lot of potential with Timber and his sawblade thing. I feel like he should be allowed to attack while his sawblade his out since his damage output kinda stinks.

-Fire Panda also feels pretty balanced (if a bit on the strong side). While he's fast as hell and his ultimate is a sweet escape/mindfuck skill, he's really squishy even with Flameguard. Really cool and fun hero to play, I still need a lot of practice with him.

-Dragonhawk Rider is ridiculous. His damage output is insane and all his skills have massive range on them. He can slow and silence you from so far away and there's nothing you can do about it. His 2 second cooldown nuke hits fucking hard with hardly any items. He is a midgame monster. I think if they nerfed his autoattack range drastically he'd be a lot more manageable; right now, he's nearly impossible to outlane since he can practically snipe and kite you for a bazillion damage.

-Legion Commander is complete madness. This hero is so fucking good that it hurts. Massive damage output that exponentially gets crazier as soon as he hits 6 as long as he has reliable supports to help him win duels until he can crush on his own (which isn't that far off). Duel is also pretty much a 5.5 second disable on an enemy (and also an instant-gib against any support hero). Ability to nullify any disable on him and regen mass HP AND get massive attack speed all in one skill. Practically max movement speed and huge AOE damage when engaging enemies. And a stupid counterattack that lifesteals for 80% and works against ranged attacks (as far as I could tell). All of this on top of great stat gain. He's a nightmare to fight head-on, and a Legion Commander with BKB is 100x scarier in a teamfight than a Lycan with BKB. I feel like he's broken but this may be the new version goggles blinding me; at second glance he would probably lose to heroes like Huskar and Syllabear (but then again Syllabear is the most op carry in the game).

OH my god, had the best game of my short Dota 2 life!!

6/1/5 :3

I was so happy everyone let me mind my own business rather than telling me what to do all the time. I don't mind it if it's a bit here and there, but so far (apart from this game) people are telling me what I can and can't do.

Dota really is an amazing game when you're doing well and just playing to have fun.

Here's a really noob question for people. Like 12 minutes before the match ended, I was on the lookout for the secret shop to buy Eul's Scepter of Divinity. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm sure it would have made my Lich run a lot more enjoyable.

When you try to buy a secret shop item, the map will ping the locations of the secret shops (one for dire one for radiant).

Refer to this screenshot for radiant side: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/559795187049015284/71F55419BCDA9A590C6664DCE180F34885285DD1/

Secret Shop is the one in the jungle (as opposed to the side shop, which is next to the side lanes). It's in the left jungle on Radiant side, and the right jungle on Dire side. If you actually try to buy something exclusive to the Secret Shop, the map will ping to show you the locations.

Bit of friendly advice: You shouldn't rush Scepter on Lich. Two bracers/Mekanism can be bought for ~1000 gold less and can be bought in cheap parts compared to the 1000/1200g items on Scepter.

I actually had two bracers, however one guy on my team kept saying I should get Scepter, but I didn't have enough gold and since I don't know the items yet (I use "Suggested items" for my purchases) I sold the bracers.

more importantly we need to be able to swap after randoming

This match was awesome!!

We were so matched for the first half of the match. I thought we were going to lose at one point, but then they did a massive rush into out front towers, and we just decimated them. After that, they just gave up.

Sorry if image is too big.

Edit: That chain frost attack, so nice :O

It was amusing watching a small group of the enemy chase me only to have their faces covered in frost. So far, I've been staying near people the whole time. I wont let them shake me off because I'm scared of dying :P

ok
whoever was playing that Lich, Raphier? something like that
I dont mind playing with new players, as long as they are willing to learn
and not talk shit when someone is trying to help you out

not fun

shredder's ult drains his mana so it is understandable. The only thing that i find op is his passive. Combined with the right items, he can tank alot.

xin is a cool hero to play with. He basically has a mini pipe and an ult that can be used as a great juke tool or a massive nuke

no disagreement on dragonus.

legion commander, on the other hand, is almost like the ultimate steroid bro hero. I find him insanely hard to kill. Imo, give him a vanguard/urn/medallion/armlet early and he can practically rape anyone

Ultimate Orb costs 2100 gold and gives you +10 All Attributes.

Drum of Endurance costs 1750 gold and gives you +9 All Attributes. And Move/Attackspeed auras.

I'll just leave that here.

Thats what happens when you don't invite me.

EDIT: That guy sounds like he has the DOTA personality down to a tee.

No offence but that was a pub way to "teach" people. It's easier to teach newer players when you don't put them in the defencive from the start by calling them shit and laughing at them.
After that they won't listen anything you say no matter how right you might be.

nah, it's cool to call people shit players as long as they already understand they are shit players and you don't rub it in. For instance, I kept calling Trasher a shit juggernaut because he was sucking a huge dick and couldn't carry a carton of milk without assistance, but then the next game we learned not to have 4 carries and we won big time.

I guess what i'm saying is call people out when they play like garbage, but give them room to not play like garbage in future.

The worst thing you could do is let somebody playing poorly think they personally are doing well. It'll reinforce bad habits, and make it more difficult to teach them in future.

ultimate orb also builds into major items...

Drum builds out of one of the most common items for supports. Ultimate builds into items for agi and int carries. Its about the role.

At the very least one support that went bracer should always upgrade it into a drum.

Dude, I don't mind being shout at. I know I suck with certain heroes and I acknowledge my mistakes. But seriously during that match, if we would be the winning team nobody would throw me at fault. But then we were the losing team and everybody goes: Oh I played well, who here made us lose!? wth was that Lich doing? Blame him! wards! wah wah! spells wah wah. +55 movement speed before Mek wah wah!

It's almost funny that everyone suddenly thought I should ward up by the END OF THE MATCH when we were losing!

I am not going to listen to bunch of cry-babies during a match we lose (if we lose it's not my fault. the other team was just better). I take critique when we win. Atleast then people are constructive before the scorn. It's not like the rest of the team was in their prime time either.

So its not the 200g/min Drow's fault that I lost but because the other team was just too good. I see. I'll keep that in mind next time.

Sec, buying Wards

Or just one bracer and make it into a drum. Good stats and an aura for your teammates.

Drum is the most efficient item in the game....also the best (other than Urn, Bracer and Sheepstick.)

Anyone thinking Orb is better overall is crazy.

what the hell are you talking? How is this even related? However, sometimes it may be because the whole team had poor beginning and terrible lane control that the other team just fared better, if that's what you want. Or maybe the other team had stronger carry or they ganked your Drow well or just overall better heroes. It can be anything.
