Did said people also tell you to skip Shallow Grave? If so, they're kinda wacky, as it's invaluable at every single point of the game. Your own video is itself a great example: Lina and Queen of Pain burst Axe down so quickly, for want of a grave he had all of two seconds to fight or preserve himself. A beefier Poison Touch or Shadow Wave can't help him (or you, for that matter) when he's dead.

No, but I also didn't expect Axe to be rushing into two early-game ranged heroes like that.

You get Grave precisely for the things you don't expect, be it a surprise dive, gank, or fight. Even those who play responsibly will have need of a Grave, it's simply inevitable and can come at any given moment. What it fundamentally comes down to is this: a Dazzle who doesn't make grave a central part of his play is operating far below the hero's potential, he's built to cheat death and make hail mary passes. The sooner you get that capability the better, because the enemy team won't wait.

Normally you want to grab the life-saving skill first, to prevent any early ganks, then skill up according to your lane opposition. This is an issue I see often with my friends who are new to the game. They ask what to get, without reading the skills fully, or just dump points into damage dealers.

I didn't watch your video, just commenting on what others have said. I don't see a lot of early aggression, so I could see your reasoning, but I never want to take the chance personally.

Speaking of early ganks, I almost always get first blood as Veno ganking. I love that dude.

It's how you can use Shallow Grave as a offensive skill then defensive. If you used shallow grave and heal in that situation, you would have killed them instead of the other way round.

So, for all you saltmeisters requesting surrender options...

Me and two friends were losing a game heavily. We were under by 20 kills. In the end we only had one ranged barracks left, everything else in our base was dead including one of the ancient towers. Well, we win a clutch team battle, push into their base and win the game. SUP BRO.

So if the surrender option DID require 4 votes at 40 minutes you would have still been able to play on then?

;D

Spirit Breaker is an amazing hero.

I think I have firmly decided that, as a fun game, Dota 2 is leagues beyond Heroes of Newerth, and slightly ahead of League of Legends.

I am very happy with it Valve!

There is plenty that needs fixing / adjusting in terms of the UI and stuff though, of which I'm sure Gabe is aware.

Ikuu: Plenty. Like, about 30% of them. No joke. People in pubs generally have no fucking clue how to capitalize on a lead and you can usually destroy their hubris-fueled pushes consistently.

Spookie: No because my friends are also salty and would definitely have voted yes.

Um, well, hmph. :p

Edit for a sensible response: I look at it this way if 4 people want to end the game at 40 minutes, fine. That's 4 people who have considered the game to be over who aren't going to give it their all or just throw it so they can be out and into the next sooner. Sure you maybe able to come back if everyone tried, but it's one of those. It's still 4 people who aren't enjoying themselves and want to leave when you come down to it.

So, that's the discrepancy. Whether people are playing for fun or if they are playing to win. I'm of the latter variety, personally. Thus; I never give up. Why should I? But sure, if you're just in it for fun, obviously you ought to surrender as soon as you're not having fun. It's just not my style and that makes me enjoy the fact that there is no surrender option.

who the hell can afford buriza, satanic on ES. waste of farm that could be good on your carry lol;

but i'll take it as a joke ;]

The charge symbol is visible by the enemy team? Playing as lich I don't recall that symbol above my head prior to being rushed by SB.

I'm liking this trend of pro players doing simultaneous commentating and playing. Difficult as all hell for participants in other sports to do, but the platform here lends itself well to it.

As Earthshaker, what can you do to combat a Spirit Breaker using BKB?
Get a Ghost Scepter and pop it as soon as you can after the charge, he'll have to commit his ult to stop you or let you go.

Holy shit, just had an insane 70 minute game that had us turtling for like 20 minutes and then pushing mid, top and bot t1 towers still up at like 60mins lol. Dark Seer is such a strong hero, I really don't understand why he isn't picked up more. Finished the game with 46 assists with Veno lol

Haly and Kapura banned? What happened? Did inhouse rage bleed over into the forums?

Also, does anyone have tips for landing Shadowfiend raze combo? Usually I can only land 2 at most if I am lucky and not in succession.

I've seen Shadowfiend's combo 2-3 razes into each other, just wondering if anyone has an idea of how I could do that consistently.

Haly got banned for being a lazy contrarian in one of the theism/atheism threads afaik

Just won a 4v5 as VS after our solo mid warlock quit on us.

Bloodseeker seems really strong, and VS is really fun, though I did get myself killed a couple of times with overaggressive swaps :)

Worth it getting any mana regen beyond magic wand early-mid game on VS?

I didnt have any real mana issues, but I felt we could have done more damage after a couple team fights if I had more mana left. I guess in an ordinary game I would have bottle as well, but since we were down a man I went for more defensive/team fight items.

Finally got a key today, played my first two matches, can't even beat the bots(I'm a complete noob, played LoL for a couple weeks last year).

Each match I played windrunner, the enemy bots always had somebody like Lina who would just nuke me down after I got stunned by somebody else. Guess I need to hit windrun and get away before that happens. Don't have the map awareness yet to see that coming.

set the bot to normal or easy and practice more

It's hard to judge anything from bot matches because the AI is terrible about following your lead. They always seem to retreat from a team fight when I go to initiate or initiate in a bad spot, etc. They never do what I want them to do or what I would expect a human player to do in that situation.

Bot games are basically useful for last hitting practice, and that's about it.

You are correct in thinking that map awareness is the reason you are getting beat, my opinion is that it is basically impossible for newer players to be focusing on last hitting and denying, learning their way around the shop system and managing the courier, learning how to land their skill shots AND paying attention to positioning on the map all at once. Take some of those things off your plate by picking a hero with a more defined and limited role. I know windrunner is a common recommendation for new players, but IMO it's a bad one to start with. She is nice because she has good abilities to escape(but no one would recommend a new player to play weaver or antimage because they can escape, so I don't see why it's different with windrunner), but no one should start with a carry or a semi carry, and if you do a semi carry that is dependent on hitting skill shots is even worse. Trying to get into this kind of game is hard enough with everything you have to learn, starting with a hero you have to have decent farm on is just a bad idea.

Of course the problem is, you can't really play support effectively in a full bot game cause the bots are idiots with laning so you always end up in a lane with another support.

I guess my point is, don't feel like you have to get decent at windrunner before trying other stuff even if she was recommended as a noob hero. There are other fairly noob friendly heroes that fit into different playstyles like lich or tidehunter or razor, not to mention there are semi carries or carries that I would also recommend to a new player over windrunner. Specifically skeleton king, but sniper and drow ranger are also really simple to play. I still wouldn't suggest a new player to start with them, but it's an option.
