What's a good capture software that wont take up a bunch of space? Tried out FRAPS right now, and a 30ish second video got me a 1.16 gig file :/

I'm sure something exists that will record a shitty quality video, but your best bet is ton use Fraps and then compress the video later. I use VirtualDub to do it.

This. I take my video, compress it later and delete the raw footage most of the time.

There is a guide for Bane in it. So we basically can confirm that he will be there this week for sure :D

I thought that was interesting too. I like how they are starting with the harder heroes like Pudge and Mirana.

I wanted to record one of my epic plays where I guess and kill an invis hero but using the startmovie test avi command on console was very very buggy. Oh well:p

Hey tenck want to play in about..7-8 hours from now? Hehe:p. If any gaffer wants to join feel free to ask for an invite!

More reasons to carry sentries and dust, I suppose. Mostly pubs in matchmaking, but who doesn't want to carry sentry wards up to, say, a Broodmother lane and kill her with them? And even if you don't pound the invisibastard into the dust, you can at least make laning hell for them and create space for yourself.

cue a neverending stream of awful templar/phantom assassin pub players. i am looking forward to valve's interpretation of PA's death scream though! gonna be hearing that sound clip a lot

? It's really hard to die now that blur is like an anti-smoke. Also, very few players actually pick ta simply b/c she's not a noob friendly hero, and there's really not much appeal to playing her.

Honestly though, I hope you're all wrong and its ck+sd LOLOLOL

The cutest templar players are the ones that meld for what seems like an eternity.

I love ta :D I hope they make her the prettiest hero of all Dota 2 heroes hehe xD

Rinku: The default Source demo-to-avi recorder is notoriously unreliable. I'm sure eventually Valve will add in a TF2-like replay editor thing... maybe. Until then, I really, really don't recommend using the avi recorder. I had nothing but trouble with it, and that's why I actually started using Fraps years ago.

I tried to compress it with virtualdub but nothing seemed to happen :/

You did it wrong.

Unfortunately it's been a while since I had to do anything of the sort (since before TF2's replay feature, basically), so I don't remember the exact steps. You probably need the Xvid codec, and maybe the LAME MP3 thing, too, although compressing sound isn't as important. I also did a 2-pass compress, which is a little more complicated than is strictly necessary...

Uhhh. I dunno. Google?!

Yeah..but for some reason my Fraps isn't working at all. The program launches, but pressing F9 doesn't do anything! I checked to make sure F9 is the key too.

yeah my frame of reference is dota circa 4+ years ago when she was considered the worst hero in the game. that didn't stop her from being picked absurdly often due to her extreme once-in-a-blue-moon carry potential though! i see they changed her shadow strike to a much more useful skill now. what changes did blur get?

i always did want to learn templar. she seems like she would be super rewarding if mastered.

She gets a visual cue whenever any enemy hero is within like 800(i think) range of her. aka OSHITISHOULDLOOKOUT.

@Haddock: Tide, Lich, WD

Templar is a very fun hero. She can lay traps that can also be used as mini wards, she can push lanes, she can two-three shot heroes, she has the refraction that confuses enemies over..and she will be welcomed with open arms when she comes out this Thursday! Yes I'm being optimistic :D

Had a game where Invoker kept calling Sven an idiot on our team, and he also did bad for the end :/

Our team did sub par and I could have seriously avoided a bunch of my deaths if I didn't blink to the enemy team head first.

When they said Leshrac shouldn't be in the center of a team fight, they really meant it.

Here's screen shot if anyone cares to see

dat carry tide

He disconnected a couple times. The first time he did so I was like 'Ugh this dude probably couldn't take it anymore." Then I saw he had a 11/2 score lol.

He also wasted his ults a bit, and could have done better, but I he still did better than all of us.

Didn't know that. Went to search and:

• Mortred gains 80% transparency when a non invisible enemy hero is in a 1600 AoE.

And also disappears from the minimap. Holy shit.

Just had a game get boring in the end because the dire team kept pausing to stall the game ;_;
some time ago the opposite team had a leaver and the 5min went out and everybody was safe to leave. Then EVERYONE left except for one guy that said "noobs", paused the game and left.

When did these get there?

I saw these 2 weeks ago and said it in this thread somewhere but nobody cared haha. Though I thought they were old already so didn't go into it that much.

Also that Bane guide has been in there for that long as well.

Servers are going down in about 4 hours and 40 mins.

Time to go back to Rise of Immortals/Demigod/HoN for a day, LoL.

Played a tad bit last night and I'm having a bit of a problem of letting my target escape when they are at a sliver of health. When chasing, do you guys right click on the enemy of use the attack on ground command? I've always used right click on enemy but lately I find that LOS breaks so easily.

When chasing, I try to click on the path ahead of where they're running in between attacks and skills. Chasing with right click seems too susceptible to LOS breaks as you've said, and it can induce tunnel vision. Continually repositioning on the ground will help you stay with them and stay alert for people jumping in.

You should always orb walk/animation cancel.

I'm not the greatest at explaining, but basically you run forward, issue an attack command and then start running right after the projectile has fired. Then repeat.
It's just as important to gain ground on them opponent, don't start attacking unless you're sure you're gonna hit. For example if he's running behind some trees I'd go all the way round until I know that I will have vision for half a second before I attack.

Thanks. I knew there was more to it than just right clicking.

If you want a more in-depth description of animation cancelling specifically, then Purge's Welcome to DotA. You Suck-Guide explains it quite well.
Animation Cancelling

Every hero has an amount of time it takes to perform an attack, like swinging your sledgehammer back before crushing brains. This is called an attack animation.

All heroes have different attack animations. Some are very long, some are very short. They are all quite reduced late game when your hero gets more attack speed. Slow attack animations are most notable early game. All attack animations have attack points. I am going to explain this with an example.

Lets say it takes Necrolyte 1.5 seconds to finish an attack animation, but he actually throws his attack at 1.1 seconds. This means that you ONLY have to wait 1.1 seconds to throw an attack. The best way to cancel this is to right click on the ground to move at 1.1 seconds. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT WHEN CHASING. It is normally called attack move or Orb Walking(when heroes have orbs like slows).

If you do not cancel your animation at 1.1 seconds, you will stand there for NO reason for .4 seconds, which can be the difference between getting a kill and not getting a kill. Always, always learn the animation cancel for your character if they have a long animation. Most melee heroes have a faster animation, and generally ranged heroes have the longer animations.

Here's Taylor Swift, wearing the Watch the Throne album as a dress, for you, it's like the best of both worlds

Heroes that need farm usually go in the short lane. Bottom for Radiant, Top for Dire. Strong combos generally go in the Long Lane, Bottom for Dire, Top for Radiant.

That's my bitch.
