So good, so tense, thought Tobi was going to stroke out. 10 flask flown out to Synderen on the courier, lol.

The time limit added a level of excitement that few dota matches reach.

Must be some terrible pubstars then

well, they are suggestions and you dont have to follow it. Now that we have the item build editor, we can make whatever we want. I agree, though those item choices are terrible

i miss vigoss when he was at his prime. He is known as the god of gankers or V-god (as the chinese gave him that nickname) :S but he is still nice to watch

Wow, you guys weren't kidding. Skeleton King really is the easiest hero to play. This was my first time playing him. Our Pudge was either dumb or new to Pudge though. We took on Roshan once in this game and he was on his way after we were all there and he YANKED DOOM BRINGER OUT OF THERE!

Search Player: "kagete" Hero: "viper" in the Watch filter, (Dec 20 20:12:08 2011) for the GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME.

Two games in. Some immediate impressions:

UI needs work. Not intuitive... but really... what about this game is? I feel like there is a lot of dead space on the screen with the UI that can be put to better use. I feel like the play area can be expanded a bit because of this which I think will be a welcome change... especially to players of HoN and LoL.

Shop system absolutely sucks right now.

Games feels good. Rewarding. I had a hard time telling if I was dead, though. But from watching I thought I would have a hard time following whats going on... much like I did when I started all DOTA, LoL, and HoN....... but I felt this was pretty clear. Pleasant change.

Working for my CS feels good. The additional skill is a breath of fresh air I've missed during my time with LoL.

Nice touch on mini map with circles and x's.

AM is awesome.

I am afraid that some of the DOTA standards will remain in this game when in reality they were in DOTA only because of the system's limitations. I just don't want them to be afraid to change something for the better... rather than keep it because it's a traditional DOTA thing. Bold choices are a good idea.

...two games though... what do I know?

By the way, is there something in this game that makes your own towers shoot at you? In the match I played Skeleton King, I was running from a fight I got hurt by and for some reason, my towers were shooting at me for a bit!

I'm trying to go watch the replay, but it seems all my replays are unavailable. Is there some other way I can watch it?

My guess: A weaver user her beetles, one attached to you, while you were walking by your tower, the tower attacked the beetle, not you.

That's what I think, too.

However, I think there's also something to be said for a "perfect realization", especially considering that it doesn't really feel like Dota has had a formal existence beyond mods and pseudo-copies. It almost seems like Dota 2 is more like "Dota HD", or, "Dota, as it was meant to be", with all the bells and whistles to compliment the original gameplay in a modern age.

In that sense, I definitely think its existence is justified, and I'm excited to try it out. However, I'm also looking forward to seeing new ideas. We'll see if Valve decides to explore those sorts of avenues post-release, I suppose.

Significant changes would not necessarily make it a better game. There are countless features we are building around the game that will make the experience a much better one. The gameplay itself, though, has always evolved step by step, and it will continue with that methodology. We consider this a long term project, in the same way DotA has always been. We want to provide a quality experience and not just change for the sake of change. You’ll naturally see additions and improvements to the game as time passes, but it would be a natural progression aimed at improving the game for the players and not for other arbitrary reasons. Valve and I strongly believe that the player focused development process the game has gone through is what will allow us to continue making the best decisions with regards to where we spend our development time.

Just sayin.

The implications of this are changes along the lines of what Riot did with League of Legends.

While I'm in favor of innovation in general, DOTA has enough variety to last me a long time, and I don't think hero design has stagnated. Quite the opposite, I feel like IceFrog has been making an effort to create more unique and interesting champions with mechanics that aren't just copy-pastas of preexisting ones.

DOTA is a game with an international following and a highly competitive scene. When you're in such a situation, it doesn't make sense to branch out just for the sake of branching out. It would be like Blizzard making SC2 from the ground up, rather than expanding and streamlining what they did with SC:BW.

It's a growing genre and there's plenty of room for change from competitors (again, Riot comes to mind here), I for one would like to see DOTA stay the same.

And anyway, there's always the potential for mods.

Is there any way to change the skill level setting you choose the first time you start up the beta? I chose the middle one thinking that my considerable experience with LoL would at least give me the skills to handle myself as I learned the ins-and-outs of the Dota heroes. Unfortunately, I dont think I was quite ready for this level, and I'd like to change to the beginner setting if possible.

Sorry for lame game as Puck, guyz. I don't know, just keep sucking today in all the holes possible.
Was that you earlier? Don't worry about it. We had a bad team in terms of hero picks to begin with and they took advantage of it. Doesn't help that Faceless Void had an easy time mid lol

Yeah, shame to admit, that was me. I love Puck, but most of the time I suck playing as her. I want to learn how to play properly, but it's nearly imossible to do so in practice - lots of AFK hosts, ragequiters and so on. When trying to play in matchmaking - things like this happened.

Just got a beta invite and I was really looking forward to getting my hands dirty but I'm having some problems getting it to run. When I start it up it launches and I can hear the music but there is no picture (I'm still at my desktop with the Dota icon in the bottom tray). Even further when I try to tab around and re-enter the program the screen will flash like it is moving into the program but then it will kick me out to the desktop again but this time there is a small black rectangle at the top left.

Was just wondering if this sounds like something anyone else has encountered before I go scouring the internets and sending troubleshooting emails to valve.

Thx in advance =)

Known Source problem. Try windowed mode.

Messing around in practice with bots trying to get the hang of Pudge. I'm using Sebulon's builds. I have one question about Pudge's, why is both the bottle and those other items up there under starting items? Are you supposed to choose bottle only or all that other stuff?

He explains it here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=33472112&postcount=3716

Bottle is for mid (you don't actually open with bottle, but it should be your first item after whatever your starting items are), but if you're not mid then you probably shouldn't get bottle.

Unless no one else is getting it.

Another option is to go tango, health, branch, branch, which leaves you with 300g left for a faster bottle.

If successful, this will usually win you the lane. It's risky though, since you're basically 300g less in terms of stats.

I completely agree, which is why I think there should exist a "Dota HD/Dota Remastered" (AKA Dota 2) for this exact reason.

Buuuut I think SC2 is a bad example. SC2 is actually probably an example of what Hobart is talking about (or, at least, it's somewhat similar to what I'm imagining in terms of scale of change). Dota 2 is practically a modern port of the original Dota while SCII has completely different units, strategies, etc. compared to Brood War. Blizzard has removed entire units while adding game-changing units and abilities, and they're planning to do even more with the following expansions.

It's a completely different metagame. In fact, to the layman, the divide between Brood War and SCII could seem at least as great as that between Dota and LoL.

This is actually why I'm also very interested in Blizzard Dota in addition to Dota 2. I know a lot of people here are going to be quick to dismiss BDota (and I have my own problems with it), but it'll be interesting/illuminating to see what changes/additions in BDota will work and which won't. Whether it be SCII, WoW, or what have you, Blizzard is not afraid of completely reworking a game to see if they can make it better, even if the prior metagame was balanced. It's risky and ballsy, and I respect the hell out of Blizzard for regularly trying these sorts of things.

Someone explain some Axe jungling to me? How do i 'stack' camps? I tried watching some videos and i dont really get it. I have manged to do it acouple times but i think it was by accident.
