I tried Leshrac for the first time and kind of sucked. How exactly should I be trying to use his ultimate? I know it's a thing you enable and disable, but still it seems odd to just charge in with it.

The ideal way is to turn it on and off every x pulses, if you get a good bloodstone stack going you can continue to do your combo while you get a few pulses of your ult in between them. Just stun some folk and keep your w on as much as possible. The E is great for harass, and it's generally what I level in lane if I'm supporting.

use it to dump mana into damage to burst someone down?

Our pub 5th Gondar has a great start, starts talking trash to us at the first sign of adversity, builds not one but two Divine Rapiers in what must have been a fit of hubris, and duly loses both wandering around the enemy jungle (it's as if he doesn't understand what a Gem of True Sight does). A long, drawn out game ensues, and our lovable 5th begins to make an ass of himself at every opportunity, both in speech and in deed.

He threatens to sell his items and fill his inventory with troll items if we don't finish the game by minute x. Then he pleads with us to return his Rapiers after we kill the carriers, promising that he'll win the game for us. We naturally refuse. I don't even entertain dropping it from my Sand King's inventory at this point, especially given I have an Assault Cuirass for much increased attack speed (quite useful in a base race). Then he starts begging us to push because he doesn't want an abandon on his record. We tow his pathetic, pleading ass all the way up to their Ancient, passing the empty mid and claiming the GG after killing a few of the remaining defenders. The enemy Weaver and CM had had the same idea, but we were up a barracks and threw buildings down far quicker. Filed that report with zest.

I can't recall seeing this posted but if it was, oops. Not sure if it works though, haven't tested it myself yet

I know I'm not the only one who had a problem with the obstructive netgraph numbers so maybe this will help :>

You mostly dont, his ult isn't all that useful until you get a bkb or until you're really tanky. You also shouldn't be skilling it until level 13 and even then you can hold off on it.

Played my first game of dota in Dota2 since maybe 5 years ago so I'm really rusty. Strange enough, I did the most last hits on my team, only went 3/7/11 as Furion though. Accidentally rooted a teammate as he was running away from being chased during a gank, so I feel like an idiot. Kinda wish I turned on legacy hotkeys cause I kept hitting Nature's Call while trying to teleport and stuff even after all that time.

On the other hand for items, GOD I DO NOT REMEMBER ITEMS. What did I finish the game with? Power treads, a circlet, a staff of wizardry, the +5hp regen ring and the INT version of the bracer. I feel like a total moron in that department. COME AT ME PROS. :(

Nothing about having the most 'last hits' as furion is strange. Also creep kills is not the same as last hits.

So I'm about to play this for the first time. Any tips?

I played DotA through WC3 long ago before it really became this massive worldwide phenomenon. I was never any good at it though.

My VS is getting better. I just need to learn to use these darned smoke thingies.

The console is really acting up for me. I input all that stuff in the post above, and the net graph looks fine, but I can't close my console window unless I spam click it randomly, and when it closes, the net graph also goes away and I can't get the console up again :S

Maybe this has been done before, but I was thinking. What if you set some weird rules and tried them in a game? One in particular I was thinking of was "Carries Only". No one would technically be at a disadvantage, but how would that game turn out? Another interesting twist I thought of "Supports Only". At the very least Supports only might help people get comfortable fighting with support heroes.

I think I'm playing Lich too much. He's the character I do best with by far, and every time I think about trying somebody else I get worried once the character selection screen comes up and end up choosing him anyway. I keep seeing in guides that you need to understand how each and every hero plays by trying them out yourself to be a true Dota master but isn't it enough to just know when the non-Lich heroes are standing in a group so I can play Ultimate Bowling?

I have this same problem. I can't close the window once it's open from the beginning with the -console command. Also the game isn't responding to my clicks, only the console window is "active".

Doesn't matter for me though, I removed the -console command from setup but still have my net_graph set as 1. Try "exit" command or shut down DOTA2, remove it from the steam window and see if this works for you.

edit: Steam -> DOTA 2 -> Properties -> Set Launch Options -> remove the "-console" after you've got net_graph in the main menu working.

To remove the console, press the console key. ~ by default.

For some reason, you can't click the X to close it, and it also steals focus. It's weird. Different from every Source game prior.

Whoa. I just had my first run-in with part of the more... notorious aspects of the Dota community. Dude went crazy in voice chat the instant the enemy team got first blood. It was all of five minutes into the game and he was in the early stages of a full-blown meltdown. Died a couple of times then started sulking in the base and whining at us. Was kind of bizarre having him accusing us of feeding when he had the most deaths on our team until he started cowering at the fountain and we started getting annihilated 4v5. I couldn't figure out how to mute his voice chat, and I've seen people mention reporting players but couldn't figure out how to do that either. I ended up just muting my master volume when I decided I wasn't too keen on having family members wondering why my computer was hurling colorful pejoratives at me -- on Christmas Eve, no less -- and it became clear that he was not going to run out of breath anytime soon.

Was kinda crazy. For all the stories I hear about this sort of thing all the games I've played until this one have been perfectly civil.

Luckily for me no one has set their mics up yet, so I don't have people yelling at me. I fear for the day I finally meet someone who actually has their mic set up.

There are buttons in the upper left corner of your screen during play, the one with thin white lines opens up a menu like this:

Click the mic buttons on the left (next to player color) and they turn red muting the player. Click (or right click, don't remember) their name in this same screen and it pops up a small window for reporting etc.

It was the first person with a working mic that I'd ever encountered. Not a good first impression. And in context it was completely inscrutable, really. Accusations of feeding are a little bit premature when the total number of kills stands at a whopping 1.

Ahh, I've only ever used that pop-up screen to check the levels of heroes really quick. Never thought to look for the mute function there. Thanks.

I also figured out how to report him even though the game was already over. I found the game in the Recent Games list under the Watch tab, clicked on his name, and got the dropdown with the option. It even thanked me for helping to improve the community. You're welcome, Dota 2.

i can't find a single nerf other then antimage lol;

- Couriers now give 150 to each enemy player, instead of 300 to the killer.
- Couriers no longer drop items when they die
- Couriers respawn 3 minutes after death, the items they have are inaccesible during that time
- Flying courier no longer has invulnerability shield
- Basic courier is magic immune (like flying courier, most spells did not work on couriers already)

wow!

Heroes now respawn with full mana

Axe
- Aghanim's Culling Blade cooldown from 10 to 6
- Base Int from 14 to 18
- Base HP regeneration from 1.25 to 2
- Battle Hunger gives Axe a 4% bonus movement speed per target it affects
- Berserker's Call cooldown from 14 to 10
- Counter Helix damage increased from 100/125/150/175 to 100/130/160/190
- Counter Helix proc cooldown decreased from 0.7/0.65/0.6/0.55 to 0.65/0.6/0.55/0.5
- If Culling Blade kills a unit, Axe unleashes a war cry, giving nearby allied units (600 AoE) a temporary movement bonus (25% for 6 seconds).

Axe might be useful now? :o

Great. Dota 2 is going to be pushed back even further. Thanks, Icefrog.
I'm hoping that Valve steps up and has Dota 2 in line with the patch by next week for the heroes already in the game. Wonder how long it will be though.

Courier and mana buffs changes are big. Not sure how I feel about them though, loosing a Courier now has far less sting, but it will be easier to get right back into the fight after death.

Ah great, they fixed my issue with Sven's warcry, that the cast time made it far less useful for chasing.

Love the upgrade Tiny gets with a scepter.

Love the new boots, not sure just who to put it on though. New ring is cool, wish there was a strength version though.

For once I'm doing good, the rest of my team fucking sucks.

I think this game is going to bring back my rage from the younger days :lol
