Yeah, he can kill Roshan solo at about the 15 minute mark, so you need to keep an eye on it when he is on the enemy team.

Are you trying to "main" a certain hero?
Are you trying to "main" a certain hero?
I'm trying to get a pool of about 5 or so heroes I'm good with, and then be able to pick based on team composition.
So far I played Tinker until I was comfortable with him, then Slardar, and now Lich.
Though, given the choice, I'll pick which one I like more.
I admittedly have been using whether I like my former choices to help guide what new characters I pick as opposed to like picking solely based on (1 carry, 1 ganker, 1 tank, 1 pusher, 1 initiator, etc).
Necro isn't a support! He actually requires substantial farm. You should give Necrolyte a shot. Pretty good support with a ridiculous ult.

He's definitely an interesting character, but my friend who plays a ton of Dota (and I frequently match with) is really good at him, so I think he's pretty well covered.
I think I will try one of the pushers next, since I notice in matches that we could often use one, but they don't seem to be played very often. This is probably because there are only four of them currently in the game based on the OP.
Rhasta / Brood are the best options IMO (specially the last one)
Play PUDGE.
PUDGE IS THE BEST HERO
He lacks everything that makes a support a support(stuns, slows, no item requirements). He's also useless without survivabilty--since his only nuke demands that he runs into stun range, an under farmed necro either feeds or just ends up being ineffective. All you need is rank 4 death pulse and everything just dies. Other than that, he's pretty support-y.
Well, technically you can play any hero as support. Necro is a survivability carry, so a lot of the good support items(mek pipe) are carry items on him, this doesn't make him a support though, because if you lane him like a support he never gets these items.I guess it depends how you build Necrolyte.
My friend tends to alternate between this support Necrolyte and this really item heavy Necrolyte depending on the situation.
I don't know what his actual builds are though.

Pudge is pretty enjoyable, but methinks a certain Gaffer has the market cornered.Pudge is in fact the best hero, everyone should play him.
nirolak if you want to know the heroes to pick for good team composition, I'd recommend watching more competitive streams. A "one of everything" approach doesn't really work very well in tryharding games.
I'm pretty sure it was said that Pudge Wars was being potted over.Did anyone here ever play Pudge Wars? That was awesome. (custom map for Warcraft 3, every player is Pudge, you can upgrade your hook so it bounces off walls, gets like 20 km long, does more damage the longer the hook is and crazy shit like that) It would be so awesome if Valve decide to somehow port this to Dota 2 as well.

Q: Will there be anything like the AI maps in DotA or a “training mode” with difficulty levels? (by L.Pham)
A: Yes there will be bot support if you just want to play by yourself, or you can create a party of friends and fill the rest of the slots with bots. There are a variety of different settings you can use in order to configure the bots, ranging from selectable difficulty levels to specific behaviors that you want to practice against. For example, if you want to practice your lane control, you could configure the bots to be stronger at denying, last hitting, and harassing. We’ll also have some specially crafted challenge scenarios, similar to things like Pudge Wars, which I’ll elaborate on in the future.
Yeah, I definitely intend to at some point, but right now I'm noob enough that I'm still trying to build a footing for myself. :lol.

ksan, who are you even talking to?
OP is based on Valve roles and I explained heroes that have multiple roles. The op is wrong about a lot of roles, mostly because its trying to nail down each character to a single role.
Pugna, Tinker, Broodmother, Chen, Enchantress, Nature's Prophet, Shadow Shaman, Enigma and Venomancer are the main pushers in the beta right now. Those are who you go for if you want a push strategy.

I kind of wish there was someone like Day[9] doing tons of Dota tutorial/analysis videos though.
Back when StarCraft 2 came out I went from bad gold to high diamond in about a month largely thanks to him.
Unfortunately, that would be a monumental task. Too many hero combinations and item combinations, let alone differences from playing on the other side of the map, to make an easy route to being good. Tobi does an alright job explaining why heroes and items are picked though.
I think the reason there isn't a Day[9] of DOTA is because even now, people still don't really understand the game. Pro players got where to where they were now by trial and error and perseverance, rather than by a methodical process of mastering the basics, and then building upon that foundation step by step.
Pffft, you all got carried by Hyun.
