Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

Clockwerk isn't a victim of nerfs but more a victim of playstyle changes and metagame shifts. He used to be top-dog shit where he'd solo mid and completely control the map with his global presence through flares and huge hook range.

Is it just me or are Clock's stat growths really crap?

Some people still cannot understand that you cannot directly compare a HoN hero to a Dota 2 hero, or vice versa. The games are very different by now (although it takes a certain level of game knowledge to really see). What you are fighting with and against in HoN differs vastly from what you are fighting with and against in Dota 2. Yes, it is obvious they took a different, more "action-oriented" approach to Dota after the initial "conversion to a different, more modern engine" in the beta, and even the ported heroes and items have several differences by now. I find this leads to a higher emphasis on reaction times, as things move and act faster you sometimes have to know in advance how to react to a situation whereas in Dota I just might have the time to think slightly more and improvise a solution.

While I do not agree with several things S2 Games has done with HoN lately, I cannot say I could ever completely side with Dota either. I still feel there are several changes in HoN that, should they find their way over to Dota, they'd only improve the game experience for all but the most blind of Dota purists.

I cannot comprehend the blind hate for HoN (or LoL for that matter) that some people have developed. If you haven't really seen it yourself and given things a proper spin (in games like these, that means hundreds of hours.) I don't think you are exactly fit to judge. Take my euro-HoNtrash opinion for what it's worth.

Just played my most immersive game yet. First game I really took on a captain role, if only just saying a few things here and there but leading the charge in most of the team fights.

We started out getting destroyed by their team buildup and superior laning line up (this was SD) and Drow was AFK for 4 out of the 5 minutes, then came back.

They took most towers within the first 20 minutes without us scratching one of theirs, SD was fed and had a 18 min deso, it looked bad. But we came back when I rushed deso and we had a few brutal teamfights, I urged everyone to play defensively, and we finally pushed back from a rax to their rax, then took the game. Was alot of fun.

I think you are confusing blind hate with the fact that some people just enjoy playing Dota more. I laid up some points why I don't like HoN that much, and if you didn't understand them Milkman very eloquently explained it. HoN is a decent game, but there's just no point of playing it for me for those reasons.
The most pathetic part is that there are people like bzm and kapura that got it so insanely personally that they started raging here on gaf. While it's kinda funny in a way, it's mostly just plain sad, and it ain't exactly the first time kapura rages here either.

And yes, I played some HoN, especially during the beta

I think Clockwerk is still a shitty hero, this is the real issue here, why play him when you can play the infinitely superior Beastmaster?

Ksan your opinion is pretty wrong bro, stop embarrassing yourself

BM's line are lame and so is his face. Also sick of hearing his dumb snarl every 5 clicks.

Clockwerk is infinitely superior in the only department that matters, being cool.

Are you angry?

Maybe you should go back to your fucking cave in the hon thread, cause you truly live up the stereotype of hontrash.

Oh no :(
Are you gonna tell your mom that someone doesn't like the same game as you do? :((

idk bro ur posts just make it sound like S2.Maliken descended from the heavens and fondled ur puppy as a child or something

Yep, and that's one of the main reasons why I find HoN a lot worse than DotA. Look at CM/Lina for another great example on how to make heroes for bads.

And Pharaoh looks hilariously bad, don't know what their logic was with that conversion and how the skill set was supposed to fit his theme...

but come on man we're both really bad at DOTA 2 ksan, we'd be like 1100 mmr me and u (but that's just cause we both only have like 30 games played); so maybe these changes would've allowed ppl like u and me to play these heroes u know? btw i rly suggest a pair of gunnars they rly help increase skill level

HoN logic at its finest.

Yes, because HoN players don't know what casting/attack animations are, or?
No, I wasn't :)
Typical Dota player, flames and makes blanket statements then denies when they're put against the wall.

If we're going by cool then why play anything but Windrunner

I usually don't agree with Togglesworlh.

but today, I don't agree with ksan.

get crunched ksan. everyone should stop playing clockwerk and bloodseeker because they're terrible heroes.

ez.

I don't want to pick sides. But that is one of the worst sentences I've ever read on any forum ever. Put 20 seconds more effort into your posts so they can be read without getting a headache.

Also this ridiculous flaming is exactly what people mean when they say that these kind of games have the worst communities in online gaming. Wow.

I'd just like to put a friendly reminder for everyone that this thread is more heavily moderated than the HonGAF community one ever was. >_>

There's a way to have a debate (if you guys really want one) without resorting to YO HONTRASH PEEPS and the numerous "you mad get good".

sorry english is my 2nd language (lebonese my first, lebanon ftw #1 NA); i use lots of internet slang and stuff becuz i am used to that. But my point was that me and ksan are both bad so s2 changes actually benefit us ya know? it's like those people on minimum wage that vote for people that want to remove minimum wage and spend hours picketing.

I enjoy playing Dota more. That's why I play Dota more (about 350 hours of Dota 2 compared to about 2 hours of HoN this year, I guess I soooort of abandoned HoN for Dota). Your usage of "HoN logic" and "HoN player" in a very negative manner along with some things people already quoted don't exactly make it sound like you thought the game or its players were ever any decent, and thus made me write that up.

What I meant to say is there's no Dota master race, there are undoubtedly bads and morons of all levels coming from both Dota and HoN backgrounds all the time, this is still the internet. But their background really is irrelevant. I'd like to see some actual evidence that this "HoN trash" stereotype is anything more than a myth.

EG.GNRZ.TITAN, the philosopher, dang insured; you make the most elegant arguments gotta give dota-europe some props.

Don't you just feel embraced and welcome by this community? Such lovely people ^.^

I hope I'm never good at this game so I never find you guys in MM :P

Seems like that isn't true based on the post above you.
No it was intentional, he's trolling you

Well, the Dota 2 community is supposedly more well mannered then the HoN community, despite Ksan being a terrible example of that opinion, it's mostly true from my experience. Most of the things in this thread that would be considered as rude, are just us having fun with each other

yeah, swag managed to shit talk a team for 10 minutes straight before stopping for 40 minutes before we beat them, then shit talked for another 5. see, he only shit talks when you're bad and when he's going to win!

This, don't agree with your opinion on Ksan though. He's been fine with me. Except for that one time he went completely off the handle in the NeoGAF channel. :p

Only talk shit when I get flamed, other then that I'm pretty nice

Don't forget freakin "easiest game of my life" chair #1 trash talker.

well league of legends and heroes of newerth are basically the same thing (they both copied the king, dota), and since league of legends is trash and the people who play it are trash (i think we can all agree) so is heroes of newerth and so are the people who play it, also even though dota 2 copied dota it has dota in the name so dota 2 is exempt from the trash-by-copy-proxy rule

There's a clear rivalry between DOTA fanboys and HON fanboys, exacerbated by the fact that the two games are identical in many many ways.

Add to that the general level of trash talking in both games and you end up with stuff like this.

Anyway if you think LoL is trash meet me mid and I'll stomp you np.

At least in pubs, I've found the exact opposite to be true, but that might just be because I'm unable to ignore [all] chat in this game :D

In general, people are actually pretty civil. Only about one angry person per game for me.

you're terrible at LoL, I'd roll you any day of the week with Lux.

you're terrible at LoL, I'd roll you any day of the week with Lux.
Not you neki, you actually play LoL.
In all seriousness, all three communities are just as bad as each other.
Indeed.

DOTA Community: Superiority complex
LoL Community: Persecution complex
HoN Community: I don't even know what is up with those dudes anymore

Typical Dota player, flames and makes blanket statements then denies when they're put against the wall.
The part about Glacius/Pyro(?) being for bads might have been uncalled for, however I think that was pretty lighthearted :/
I certainly don't think the insults were certainly a lot worse and unwarranted, to the point of being outright pathetic.

I certainly didn't use "HoN logic/HoN player" in a very negative manner, or at least I didn't intend to.
The logic post was just a much more blunt way of pointing out what you said later about not being able to compare the games directly. The design philosophies of the game are different in many ways, very much so in the part of casting time/backswings etc. I just found it stupid that someone would say that Clockwerk needs a rework but doesn't have any constructive ideas to do that.
And the post asking if HoN players don't know about attack animations~ was rhetorical, I know sarcasm is pretty hard to detect over the net and that might be my fault because of that. However I sure didn't expect anyone to rage that badly to that post, as all HoN players I've played with understand that there are significant differences in HoN and Dota in that regard. Bzm however showed that he had no idea that Glacius and CM had huge backswing differences which might be why the post went over his head.

If you look up to the circumstances of calling them HoN trash I think you know why I did it. (otherwise I don't think it has a lot to do with reality, more used for trolling in other situations)

I don't run into BM people that are legitimately bad mannered that often, maybe every 3-4 games with legit flames, most people are just fucking around though. This doesn't include the team rage that happens at the end, if someone perceives that they have a feeder on their team.

I'm in Europe so all I get are people being silent or probably flaming the team with cyrillic characters.

So the only actual exposure I have is this thread and then the comments on the different youtube videos and guides I read. And I thought a few posts in this thread are below the standard of even a "I hate the PC" or "I hate consoles" threads that are on here. ;-)

compulsive troll complex ez
But I represent HoN-GAF, not you lazy trolls!

On another note, I had the most weirdly pleasant game duo queuing with a friend a couple days ago. We got matched in a team with 3 people with matching clantags and names written in cyrillic. In several points in the game it was apparent that one or two of them were... Frustrated... At me and my friend not thinking the exact same train of thought as they did, BUT they never resorted no spam pinging or flaming. It could just be them being unable to understand/flame in english, but it was nice to play with randoms who kept their anger to themselves. I don't mind if people get frustrated if they keep themselves under control!
