Warlock is actually a common pick? I know he has the highest win rate, but I didn't realize pubs were using his as a go too "OP" character.
Now Naix and Nyx, those two will almost always get picked if they are in a RD pool. People tend not to actually grab PL too much, most likely since RD for me usually ends up with people picking up heroes who can fit most line ups.

well of course, the meta hasn't changed drastically since December (with a few exceptions), arguably reaches back to September/October of last year. When a patch simmers for this long, it pretty much stabilizes and people get a feel for what works and what doesn't (again, there are always exceptions).
String of big tournaments and the rumored new content in the next patch probably delayed 6.78 a little longer than intended. Icefraud hasn't waited 6 months to release a new patch since what, 2009-2010?
Just hold out for a tad longer, 95% chance the new patch hits within 2 weeks of the Eastern qualifiers ending.
There will be two sets tonight starting in an hour, then no games until Tuesday Morning.

I'm pretty happy with the result, though my East predictions are likely to be a disaster.
wot? maybe in the bottom 20% of matchmaking. bkb is like the 10th most popular item on dotabuff, and the most picked up item that's worth more than 3500g.
also warlock ulti stuns through bkb and his power comes from his golem's 60% chance to hit for 100/150/200 damage in an aoe (pierces bkb), which is insane, especially at early levels when combined with fatal bonds (also pierces bkb). Also warlock lane harass really isn't that great compared to most supports... that's his biggest disadvantage in competitive--can't setup kills in lane and isn't the best zoner (so buying less regen against a warlock will probably hurt you less than say against a rubick or nyx).

Quick question hopefully someone can fill me in about the compendium. I put in my East Qualifier predictions before they were locked out. I unfortunately haven't been able to watch many of the games live because of their start times. Do you only get prediction points by watching live games?

Nope predictions need to be correct for points. Tallied after the qualifier ends.
IE if you picked drow ranger for most first bloods you only get points if she actually did get most first bloods
Watching live games ups your courier view count, and gives you the chance to win tournament drop items.

How good are the recommended items in this?
I figure I might as well give this game a proper go, but the choosing/purchasing of items has been the main obstacle for me.
I guess I'll try a few bot matches, although I'd prefer to play with others but will spare them my awfulness for a little while.
