There's been more than one time where the enemy was still able to escape after we used dust because this damn thing gives 20% MS ok top of invis. Arr

So I am new to the game, been have been playing for the past week, came from LoL (haven't played that in 6 months) and have been just joining solo and regular matches. I am having a hell of a time and it is getting really frustrating. I was given the advice that I should random every match to get the hang of the different heroes, and I am sure that that is part of the problem, but I suck, like, really bad. Is doing the random thing every match just really worth it in the long run and should I stick with it?

When I was new to the game, I played a new hero every game but I didn't random. Don't do random because you will probably screw up earlygame.

What I did was, go to playdota, read a high rated guide on a hero I want to play, and THEN pick him in the next allpick. That way, i already knew what item to get and what his abilities do and when to use them. Worked out great for me.

Don't blow all of your stuns and slows at once then.

Maaaaaaan, I'm not stupid, but I don't always 5 man gank. When you are solo or just as two, the damage simply isn't enough sometimes and they get away with a sliver of health left. Especially if they keep juking through trees with their increased MS.

But I'm a noob and she's like, super noob friendly. We were meant to be together.

THIS SEAT IS TAKEN.

I played her before you started Dota 2, BRO.

bitch u ugly.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend randoming. I think there's value to knowing who you're going to try to go out and be successful with and preparing mentally to do so. If you know who you want to learn, you can go read some guides to give you a feel for how to skill/item build your hero of choice, and a little insight for how to play them to be effective. Randoming is just throwing yourself to the wolves with no preparation at all. At best, you give yourself about 90 seconds to try to find a guide for that hero. That's not fun. Especially given how distinct, situational and complicated it can be to extract good play out of some heroes.

FWIW, I picked out 3 or 4 heroes in my first couple of months and stuck with them until I understood the game, genre, and basic concepts. Complete with all manner of guides from playdota.com and dotafire.com, and YouTube tutorials. It took a few months but at least I'm passable now. If you're finding randoming is not an effective way for you to really learn, I recommend the repetition that comes with playing the SAME hero (or few heroes) for awhile.

Been playing a lot of Witch Doctor. More people should try him such a underrated hero. He will be a target for everyone since his Paralyzing Cask at level 4 is really fun for me but for others not so mutch. And using Maledict after doing Paralyzing Cask putting down that Death Ward in a team fight well death and decay everywhere.

I also don't recommend randoming to someone new. Random is a good way to get familiar with all the heroes, and that broad knowledge base is important for being good at the game, but is really unnecessary for a newbie. It also resets a lot of your knowledge of what works and doesn't each game. Repetition with a few heroes will help you figure out what works and what doesn't, and remember it, much better than randoming. Once you get a few heroes down, add another one to try out for a while, and then another, and another, and eventually you'll have a good stable group of heroes you can be very familiar with. At that point you can do some randoming imo.

That's what I figured would happen, at least with one or two of them, and then they'd be able to drag over some of the others. The problem is I got them to play it like once. I've started playing lol a bit with them just so at the end maybe they'd play a game or two and that would get them hooked. Hasn't worked yet, and lol is really boring, I like just playing with them though.

I am trying to convert 2 friends, but they are really stubborn. They play sometimes but then they spend an hour complaining about the game vs LoL, how the mechanics come from limitations of wc3 , how can exist a mechanic where a hero suicides an gives no gold etc...

I've never seen Radiance pay off but it seems to be working for LGD now. Spectre Sylar, so good.

Radiance is only worth going if you are rolling or getting ridiculous free farm. But one change recently is that Spectre now goes Drums instead of Vanguard, which is a better offensive item. Also youve seen it pay off plenty before amrlet bear was discovered on LD.

lol just cause you dust doesnt mean you deserve to get the kill automatically. If its broken, its the cost efficiency of the item, not its use as an escape, that make it too good.

That's true. I completely forgot Radiance on LD. LGD weren't exactly rolling that game but they still managed it after a huge team fight.

Also, these team profiles on G-1 are ridiculous lol

gg [A] wins cause LGD picked the shittiest pub team ive ever seen

That was the most boring DotA game ever

And GodZ looks weird with all his hair shaved off :/

Did they just give Bulldog his bear again, AND batrider + Wisp, wtf. Well, they have plenty of time to ban out CK, so maybe Wisp won't be that great a pick.

problem is, by the time PA is big enough to do anything, Sven/Gyro probably will be aswell.
edit: or they could just feed PA kills...
