Dota 2 Beta Thread V: Real Talk Strikes Back [Tutorials]

I have such a hard time sympathizing with anyone who gets upset that they were chat-banned...

Until it happens to someone I know unjustly or there is a mountain of evidence to the counter, I'm going to assume it's working as intended.

I just don't get what the point is in having chat bans when there's a mute option.

Oh no, someone swore at me on the internet and I only ever go on facebook and reddit so this offends me.

Either man the fuck up or mute the person, I call one person a cunt for being a massive asshole the entire game and now I can't tell my teams stuff or that the lane setup is completely shit at the moment in the next few games, it makes no sense.

There are ways to try and coordinate a team that goes beyond calling them a fucking cunt :lol

Saying "man the fuck up" in defense of saying that kind of stuff just kind of re-iterates that you're not communicating in a way that really gives off the "I just want to help you" vibe.

I'm usually saying stuff like "dude, you should get back, people all over there and we don't have vision" instead of "Get the fuck back you idiot!".

...or just use a mic to talk so there's at least no chat logs? (does that work?)

I usually mute and report, in the hope that I may save someone else from having to suffer the (presumed) vulgarity I did.

Like you did, right? I love how even on a place as heavily moderated as GAF people still find a way to prove the mute system does at least some good.

It make sence. You know if you insult someone you probably will get punished over it for the next games/days, so people are less likely to shit talk given they know how it will end up for them.

Ill ping 2 times and use the chat wheel to say "Careful" and "Get Back". Then, if they dont and die they are dumb as shit, and i just ignore them

you gotta call them unusual things in order to avoid the easy bans

for example:
you're dumber than a brick
my grandma has more dexterity
the bots play better
i fucked your mother

etc

That works to, I usually ping and talk into the mic saying something along those lines.

It's kind of a pet peeve of mine that everyone doesn't use a mic in a game that requires a lot of coordinating to do well (especially if you aren't an established team and are just some randoms).

I get why mics can't be used by some (like they are playing at night in a place with people sleeping), but I wish way more people used the mic.

There's no point getting angry at people when playing, just stay believe in yourself and stay positive and anything is possible.

It's not about coordinating with or helping people, it's about some 8-9 fuck who thinks he's hot shit, constantly putting down the rest of the team as if we're doing nothing.

Yes, normally I would just do a subtle insult and then report him, but sometimes people piss you off so much that you just have to say "you know what, you really are a twat, mate".

Hell, it might not have even been that instance that got me chatbanned, it's not as if the game actually tells you, I swear pretty often so I could have been reported by some idiot for just generally talking but I can only think it was the one I called someone a cunt because, outside of the UK, everyone seems to get overly offended by that word as if it's some sort of hyper-swearword or something.

Yeah, if you're gonna be critical and not sugarcoat it, the best thing to do is get creative and come up with something that'll make them laugh, rather than get upset. If people think it's funny, they're not going to report you.

----

Also - for people who are more familiar:

Is there anyone that combos particularly well with Legion Commander and Abaddon?

I'm surprised I haven't been chat muted yet. I call people out all the time for dumb mistakes (only when they keep repeating it). If I'm being called out and someone insults me, I wouldn't report them. Got to owe up to what you did.

Damn near impossible to do that when the Venge on your team is out of position constantly and swaps your Meepos to save himself, sacrificing me in the process. That asshole got me muted somehow too, and I barely said a few words to him before any of this happened.

Report system in action today.
Got another notification that they took action against a player I reported, anothter bonus report charge to use. (incentive to not piss away your reports since if you report the worst of the worst you'll get extra reports to use as a reward)

We just had a game where our pugna said 'stfu' every time someone called ss or asked to back, then he said he was going to feed to make us lose.
He spent every single gold he had on couriers and fed them to the other team.

We all just reported him (though it's a bit redundant, reports don't stack) , our team still won and everyone had a good time even the enemy team.

He'll get to stand in the corner for a while until he thinks about what he did and dota is a slightly better place if he gets permad for intentional feeding (which I assume he will, must be a system in place to sift out the ones that feed 20+ couriers)

@ people getting muted : you're either very unlucky or probably deserved it.
Think about it, you don't get a lot of reports to use so people either already used theirs or save em for someone real bad, and it takes quite a few of them to get muted.
So the odds of eating enough reports idly thrown at you are really really slim.

Got some news for you guys!

I'm casting in the Giant Bomb Dota 2 tournament! I'll let you guys know which games specifically once I get that finalized.

Isn't there some option you can select to not allow a teammate's abilities to effect your? It's in the same menu as sharing unit control.

Actually 2057 is the year it comes out

Sometimes your teammates are actually good and it catches me off guard completely, was Phantom Assassin solo after a Witch Doctor Viper lane, and Lina and Nature's Prophet gave me several ganks which let me hold my own in the lane.

Also that might have been my first game over 600 GPM so success!

doesn't work for some abilities. tiny toss is one i know for sure

kotl's recall can be disabled. wisp tether used to be, but it might've been broken lately because valve

i think swap can't be disabled but i'd have to test it

I actually completely forgot about that feature. It was "Disable Help" I should have just ticked that box after the first time he did that to me.

My bet is it works on swap. It doesn't work on toss because it would be possible to abuse that to your team's advantage.

I actually saw the beginning of that VS/meepo game. He was trolling hardcore and nonstop from the beginning of the match. Personally, I would've reported, muted, and disabled help early on.

So how do you mid against an Outworld Devourer as a QoP? Without wards and a courier

Go to a different lane.

You can attempt to buy a magic stick/wand since the return of your int/mana is % based. Meaning, if you have 100% mana and his skill wears off, you still have 100% mana.

nm i misread what you said

i still think it's dumb to not allow it to be disabled though. one of the easiest abilities to troll with

Meat Hook is another move that cannot be help disabled for the same reason. If you could disable it then Pudges wouldn't have to worry about single handedly ruining a team fight by pulling his friendly Magnus out of the fight right as he RPs, etc.

I don't think the matchmaking system handles mismatched parties very well. It's pretty annoying getting matched against parties with 2 or 3 guys with 200+ wins because they have 1 or 2 guys with less than 20 wins with them. It feels like those games always end in stomps.
