Dota 2 Beta Thread V: Real Talk Strikes Back [Tutorials]

Why does Omni Knight see so little competitive play? He seems like a pretty good hero, his defensive spells can be a real PITA.

Does he not fit in well with the whole trilane meta?

shitty lane presence and no stuns/disables for ganking.

You see him here and there but it is a very circumstantial pick

Why isn't Sven picked more in the competitive scene? I tried him for the first time last night and he seemed really good at chasing and counter initiating.

Undying was awesome as well. Feels good to finally branch out from strictly support heroes.

The same, better, game that had to disable 3 heroes during their all star matches because they got free EXP and gold for no reason?
thats a terrible argument - are you saying that bugs should never happen?

or are you saying theres a better solution when a champion is bugged?
Beta. Isn't like the new heroes in LoL are ever balanced anyways.

Don't understand why they actively tried to nerf heroes so they could never fill roles they weren't designed for. Every support's damage ratios nerfed because people took them mid.
i think youre missing the point here
you admit its a beta therefore buggy - however there are multimillion tournaments with a buggy game. so what do you think should happen
You're right about it not being a beta, at least not completely. But the game still isn't officially released. It's not like no bugs are what makes a game good anyways.
again, missing the point
this is about bugs in a tournament setting

I dont get what this is trying to say
who/what are the LOLers that are the heads of ACE? are they placed by tencent or riot or are they just random lol fans?

besides, no tournament, go scrim each other?? IG was amazing last year, even if that was through tournaments, those same people still exist for da scrimmings

"LGD.DD said:"we want to participate in any kind of tournaments, prize pool does not matter. the level of competition in chinese dota is going backwards, I have not played dota2 for 3 months, I just started again for half a month and dominated every chinese teams. we should be scared""
like what the hell is this. havent played dota2 for 3 months. thats bullshit. sounds like excuses for LOSING
So LoL is the king of Mobas.

I actually prefer Dota over it
i thought we were friends

Ok, so what bugs are ruining these tournaments? The bugs where some spectators sometimes see an armlet activated when it isn't, or a spell animation doesn't go off?

Feels good man

This'll be you tomorrow.

and apparently because this is a "beta" there are bound to be other bugs
who knows?
that league patch was meant to be clean too, and i dont really know but there probably wasnt any ban worthy bug before

Don't understand why they actively tried to nerf heroes so they could never fill roles they weren't designed for. Every support's damage ratios nerfed because people took them mid.
and you dont even try
its because the way the stat system works that makes high scaling supports in league way stronger than building carry on your support in dota
tho i am sad about ap lulu

Undying isn't picked very much right now due to Gyro making his tomb stone irrelevant by instantly killing all the zombies.

Ok, well be sure to post when you find these bugs no one knows of that are ruining these multi million dollar tournaments.

ok let me do this really slowly with crayons

heavy sarcastically says dota2 has no bugs, implying it has its fair share

you respond, "its a beta, its ok for it to have bugs!" and subsequently implying that it does
you then again re-emphasise that "no bugs a good game dont make!" saying that its ok to have bugs

now that dota is "in beta" with its admittedly bugged self, it is reasonable to envision that there could be a bug of the sort that goes through usual testing and affects tournament play

the league patch was basically a live patch that was played for 3 weeks by millions of people. So i dont know how the bug got through, but it did. so shit happens.

now ive run out of crayons so if you didnt get that, im sorry.

Of course no game is bug free. If you can't understand what my point is you should maybe stop insulting other peoples intelligence.

My first mistake was replying to you. Saw enough from my many years lurking to know that's a terrible idea.

If thats your response I dont understand what your problem is

because all im saying is that yes, its terrible that a bug caused champions to be deactivated, but they really did the most they could to find it

so knowing that dota2 has bugs too, how can you use it to make such a negative point

I didn't say a single thing about LoL bugs. I'm not even aware of the bug you're speaking of.

Edit, may as well clarify what exactly is going on here.

"Dota has bugs"

"It's a beta"

"It's not a beta"

"It's not really a beta, but it isn't officially released either"

Conversation over.

You: *implying there are too many bugs to hold expensive tournaments*

"What bugs?"

"It's a beta, who knows!"

"So if you don't know what bugs, why should we care?"

I feel really dumb wasting this much space and time explaining something on this very page.

well then, if your conversation wasnt part of the greater discussion about lol and dota2 that was being carried upon by heavy sandwich and archie, then i apologise

though making statements about league of legends right after you say "its a beta" makes that hard see

then i still direct my argument archie
hes an amumu

I was actually thinking that he would work well with Mag. He has a reliable AOE stun that could follow up on an RP and empower could stack on top of his passive cleave. Warcry's useful for pushing too. It didn't work for LGD against Alliance but that win was way out of reach for them.

Sven was really popular a few months ago, I saw him in every other competitive game I watched. I'm not sure quite why he fell out of favor, we didn't get a patch or anything. Just one of the weird shifts of the metagame.

Sven and Magnus were combo'd all the time months back. But people started adapting to Sven play plus Daedalus got a nerf. He just isnt trending. Sven isnt some undiscovered thing though.

Despite mid having more potential for early kills before bottle crowing, it doesn't make the lane any less interesting to watch. As much as you can regen fairly effectively with a crow, as others have said, it means you are more likely to miss runes, which not only effects your effectiveness in your own lane but means you're allowing the other player to top and bot more.

Personally, I don't see the problem with bottle crowing. You may see less kills in the mid lane, but since the two mid players are generally going to have a higher average mana/hp pool than if they weren't crowing, the likelihood of ganks to sidelanes increases thanks to crowing, which somewhat balances that out. Despite people saying that people play it safe in mid these days, I am yet to see a single pro match where the two mids aren't constantly looking for openings on each other.

I'd rather see varied draft choices and interesting hero match ups in mid to be honest.

Offensive trilanes got popular, which gives supports a lot less time to just run around and stack ancients or normal creep camps which means that Sven can't have Mask of Madness, Armlet and BKB by 25 minutes (unless he snowballs really hard, which you can't rely on) and without those items, he's not that great. In short, he relies on having a farm advantage over the enemy carry to have a real impact in the midgame.

I can see the confusion, sorry.

Plus we still see mid kills regularly and support rotations into mid. Elimination would probably just knock multiple heroes out of the meta completely for no gain in pick variety, since QoPs and Pucks are already hard to deal with and can find solo kills even with crowing in place.

But I suppose thats just cause im more interested in number of viable heroes versus a highly snowbally mid lane.

Well, if that's the extent of so called game breaking bugs in tournament, I'm sure it'll work out man.

How about the absurdity of Batrider having full vision while fireflying? Not a big deal, he's was only the most banned hero in both qualifiers and the g1 league.

draskyl, weppas and this d3xtr guy doing a match in QPAD right now lol.
ok they're playing vs team nobody but still.

I watch Draskyl's streams sometimes, he's actually pretty good.

He spoke over voice every game in a Hank Hill voice for 6 hours or something one night.

not even close to be at the level of a pro player, maybe the level of twista.
like look at this shit, he lost mid vs this random puck and they ganked and killed puck 2 times. also lol @ weppas, gg QBADs.

Oh it's an actual tournament? I thought they were just doing one of those fun games they do sometimes.

yes I suppose so since it says StarLadder, they really have no players besides these to replace mini and select lol, sick organization. also singsing is not playing for some reason.

How much of it is Tencent and how much of it is Valve taking too long to finished the beta, implement a tutorial and get a working, low spec dota client out into China? The fact that two Internationals went by before solving this a problem no amount of tongue in cheek "Valve time" can diffuse. LoL wasnt gonna sit around waiting and they knew Riot had an advantage in the Chinese market cause they are owned by a Chinese company. A big company that would certainly do anything to make sure League isnt threatened at all by Dota 2.

There already is a low spec client in china. It's called dota1, and it is updated the same as dota 2?
