yay ...got my Eastern Qual's picks right..

It's not over. VG could beat RStars/RSnake and then beat LGD in the finals to take the winner spot. The only thing that's been decided is that LGD will be at the international, either in the wild card match or as an invitee.

<- Picked VG first, LGD second.

I have LGD first VG second. Was a bit wondering if I should have it around after LGD lost a bunch of games but decided they had more going for them in the end. Seems like it's highly possible now.

9 win streak? 9 win streak.

Feels goooooood mang.

So, here's my question:

I have been playing for a couple of weeks and I still haven't played as every character (not even fucking close), nor have I even SEEN every character yet.

As far as getting a basic read on the game, what do you think is more important? Just playing randomly to feel out everyone, or sticking to a few basic heroes and learning the others through other-team exposure?

:lol

I've used those heroes before and failed completely.

Lately I've played with 4 other friends and we've been grouping up pretty well. Constant communication is brilliant.

edit: I totally agree that those characters are annoying as hell but they're still easy to counter

Not Nyx. He's kinda rough.

What has worked well for me and basically everyone i introduced to the game:

- Choose a bunch of heroes stick to them at the beginning. This allows you to learn all the other mechanics important in dota without having to worry how your hero plays. It also allows basic experimentation with builds, items, lane partners ect.

- To mix it up or if you get bored of your current heroes play single draft or just try out a hero you think might be cool.

- Read basic guides of heroes you are not sure how to play, they often give a pretty good overview of how a hero plays/what roles he is good in.

I think you learn the most about a hero if you play him yourself a few times, but there's also no rush to play everyone, take your time.

^ +1 for sticking to a group of 5 or 6 heroes and learning them while learning the basic concepts of the game.

Are 9-minute BoT's a good time for Beastmaster if ancient stacking? Decided to pick up Beast (never really played him) and that seems to be what I'm averaging.

http://blog.dota2.com/2013/05/communication-reports/

Since the ban system has been implemented, there’s been a 35% drop in negative communication interactions.

Less than the 1% of the active player base (players who have played Dota 2 in the last month) are currently banned.

60% of players who receive bans go on to modify their behavior and don’t receive further bans.

Total reports are down more than 30%, even after accounting for the reduction in the number permitted per week.

Doesn't stop Thor from getting chat banned.

Shoutout to Thor.

I bet he called icefraud a "gook" one too many times.

Multiple people ganging up on you to report you in the same game has no effect on whether or not you are banned. We are looking at patterns of behavior over time only.

That's comforting to know. I was under the impression that this happened...

"We also hear from users reporting false reports and unwarranted bans, and when we investigate them we typically see that they’re unaware of how they are coming across to other players in-game. "

Gee, and i really thought those 5 players reported that one gaffer for dominating them.

This is perfect webcomic material.

Honestly the system isn't all that bad, sure some people get banned wrongly, but most of the people who do get banned probably deserve it.

Good shit.

I must say, I've seen markedly less ragers.

edit: I guess nobody stacks ancients with Beastmaster? Or nobody plays Beastmaster. Later feels very likely. lol

Nine minute BoTs seems fine. How are you doing it? Only stacking every minute and sucking up EXP in lane when it's not stack time, or are you just spamming axes with Soul Ring?

We also hear from users reporting false reports and unwarranted bans, and when we investigate them we typically see that they’re unaware of how they are coming across to other players in-game. The perspective one has over what is or isn’t warranted or abusive varies by player, and that’s one of the reasons why we’ve tried to build a system where the community gets to own the definition of abuse, and the community’s overall decision finds its way back to the people who cross over the line. We’ll continue investigating these claims to make sure the system is working as intended, but ultimately, this system is not designed to please everyone, and our data makes us believe that even those banned by it are better served by the positive effect their lack of speech has on the community’s health.

I really like their way of thinking on that.

Guy tried to scumbag my buddy on a big money trade today. Asked for one more item, and then tried to sneak the lina hair out of his side at the same time, so my friend would re-check the box and not notice.

People are dicks

Dark Seer Question - Do you guys sell your Sol Ring after you get mana boots?

Keep it until you need the slot, if you're spamming ion shell you're gonna need all the mana you can get.

The only time I see selling a Soul Ring is once you reach the point where you (a) no longer have mana issues and (b) have something better to put in that slot.

I've noticed that people get oversensitive at times with criticism as well. It would be funny if the DOTA community at large start adopting the sandwich method of criticism...
