Because Dota as a game is pretty damn forgiving in terms of ping.
And if their connection is unreliable (AKA fluctuating ping, constant DCs, whatever) it'll suck no matter where they queue.

Man I wish they would let me resize the UI, holy hell does it get in my way. That is the only thing holding me back in this game. I have played for 11 hours and still hit it on accident. LOL really does have the UI correct when compared to dota imo. I like the look of Dota more, but the UI is just way to big.

The past year we got an announcement clearly marking that the drought was on (along with Nyx, KoTL, and Visage). That has yet to happen.

Tomorrow is the last day of the qualifiers, and after that they don't have the main event until August 7th. That will give teams more than enough time to adapt to any changes.
It's rumored 6.78 is coming soon, and there's going to be a few more heroes added before the main event too.

I don't care about the rest of the drama at all, but as someone who is low level and getting matched up against smurfs pretty consistently, I have to say that the fairness point is laughable. It sure isn't "fair" to the opposing team that is MMed against a team with one actual lowbie teamed up with level 55s.

Apparently (this is just what I've heard) smurfs move up really really fast in the matchmaking so that should alleviate some of the worries in that department.
Smurf accounts are only good for about 15 games now before MM kicks in and moves you up to where ever.

This seems good. The one thing I really liked about Starcraft is that you needed to actually rebuy the game to smurf.

I wanted to talk a bit about my fav Hero, Lycan. I started playing him a lot recently so I don't know how was he before the nerf. However, to me he is the ultimate anti BS heroes including PL , Life Stealer and all invs + shadow blade users if built correctly.
What I do with him is jump in jungle and farm Vlads in 6-7~ minutes if I'm lucky with spawns And stacking.If spawns suck, then it does usually takes 9~ minutes for me but never above 9 minutes. After that I rush treds then start eating towers until I at least get one tower down and one kill or two.
Here is what I think is the crucial item buy, either BKB first or Necro Book. If the other team got load of stuns that stop my ulti I go BKB first, if just one stun or none I will rush Necro book.
I almost never play a Lycan game without my Necro Book. Few does it with Lycan but end game Wolfs + Necro lvl 3 with W skill active + Vlads can almost solo LS. I shit you not I once had 200 health against a fed LS under his T2 tower, Summoned everything between my wolfs and Necros, buffed them with W and stayed away from him while I was in ulti. They ate his face, lol. Can't recall if had AC though.
It is always fun to watch Riki, BH or Nyx stand invs waiting for the right moment to attack when I have Necro lvl 3.

which hero is the easiest to kill? I'm thinking Crystal Maiden. She's really squishy, cannot survive a gank even with Frostbite and her Freezing Field is just useful for clearing creeps. When I see a CM in the enemy team, I always ff her first. Anyone here thinks the same?

What should I be doing with Beastmaster's Hawk and Boar? I was mostly using the hawk to check runes if the wards were down, or flying him around looking for missing heroes. I didn't really know what to use the boar for, though. His attack didn't seem to do much, so I just started using him for the same thing as the hawk.

Being able to independently move (micro) the hawk ahead of you is pretty essential the more advanced you get to scout out ganks and to gank.
Roshan vision.
Using naix to infest = Invisible Hawk Airlines
The boar does have a poison slow. So yeah slow and extra damage.
Stack creeps?
Watch a pro game or dare I say share control with allies and see what happens
The Boar is for slowing down your opponent, its attack have a very powerful slow debuff. The Hawk is for scouting, its like a mobile ward you can place over spots where wards can't go (it turns invisible when not moving).
Edit: Sephi "Smurf" accounts don't mean much in DOTA 2. After a few games those accounts are put in the proper skill bracket. The game you played and lost had obvious smurfs (both on your team and theirs). I mean one of the players on their team was just feeding on the weaker players constantly while another was tricking newer players with Armlet toggling. These are not the type of players you would see starting out.
Finals for qualifiers are in like 3 hours.
I wouldn't have thought to use the boar to stack creeps, that's clever. Would I be doing that to farm the creeps myself, or should I be letting one of the carries do it since they need the gold more than I do?

You can stack the creeps with your Battle Axes as well if you are playing Mid... just toss them at the 52-53 mark on your way to checking the runes. Just make sure your opponent doesn't see you doing this, I have ruined the life of many BMs by stealing their stacks.
Some Carries can't farm ancients that early but BM can (with a Bottle or Soul Ring like item). The Axes do damage to ancients so by throwing Axes every time you pass the camp by you not only stack them but whittle them down until you can easily take out a stack of 3-4 ancients. This will get to your Blink super fast.

Mid Betamaster is the only way he's not beta. Especially if you max the attack speed aura for the extra pushing/rune control.
It's the safest and best place to posture for Roshan, and it's positioned such that it's almost always the Dire using it. Plus, you can ward the cliff from the high ground to get vision. Don't be cheap!

You just need to reselect it, that fixes it.
I thought it was a bit annoying to begin with, but after a while of using it, it has grown on me. I like it.
Some lines in it I like, some I don't. Strangely I like hearing "GOTTEN HIMMEL!" but am tired of hearing "You just got drafted by PWN STATE!"
It did take me by surprise though one time when I played Spirit Breaker, and shortly after respawning, he said "Spirit Breaker is not amoosed!"
