After watching Anuxi's coaching sessions over at flipsid3tactics, I was curious and decided to check out the other vids they had on there. I haven't watched any of the Dota for dummies stuff but the DOTA101 series by Hector Thagoods Rosario is really informative. Specifically his series on playing mid (Part 1 and Part 2.
The big takeaway I got from that video was the importance of establishing high ground (which I've always understood) and how to establish/re-establish it when you don't have it (basically pushing the lane hard through auto attacks and spells on creeps to re-establish equilibrium when you don't have high ground- which is something I only thought was done through only last hitting and denies). I went into a bot match to practice some of these things but TBH, I couldn't quite reset the creep wave under my tower with the method he used.
One thing that I don't necessarily agree with is his statement that you shouldn't really gank other lanes as mid if you are winning your lane. I figure that it depends more on your hero as opposed to being a rule of thumb. I'm curious what are your thoughts on mid?
Only played a couple times but I'm terrible lol. What's the best character to use for a noob?

Is there something in game that tells what I should concentrate on which stats to upgrade e.g. agility, int, strength etc?
Slark needs no nerf as he's not overly usefuls in higher brackets unless you want to pick a hero who can lane againt Batrider. Gyro on the other hand is just utter BS. His rocket barrage makes it insanely difficult to get close to him early game, his ultimate es well. Flak cannon + Call down carries him into the late game way too well. He's just crazy strong at every point of the game and so easy to use.
Jakiro is a very straight forward hero in terms of abilities, and would recommend him.Only played a couple times but I'm terrible lol. What's the best character to use for a noob?
For a more offensive hero, Sven is a good pickup. Again, very straight forward and effective mechanics while you learn the ropes.
I have to disagree
Sven is a trash hero for a beginner
Id say Troll Warlord/Anti Mage are way more straight forward. Click things untill they die

Should we call it "Bokr Vokr"?I have seen Chair's Slark sometimes when I'm spectating and I can confirm this.
What are you talking about? Bokr's Invoker is amazing. He often uses two spells at once and sometimes he'll even break 10 APM.
Been gravitating towards Spectre lately just because at the level of play I'm in there are a lot of shadow blade dependent heroes, mainly Drow and Sniper, that tend to get free farm in a lane while the teams are fighting or are otherwise occupied elsewhere. They tend to just snowball through uninterrupted farming. If someone does chase them, they usual warp into the tower in front of them and have no true sight, so SB hero just gets away. This pattern repeats until they're fully farmed and it starts looking like gg. With Spectre I love being able to ult, warp in, cast dust, use a Diffusal Blade and kill them in a few right clicks. Also the ability to be farming somewhere in a lane or jungle and then instantly warp in to the middle of a team fight is kind of neat.
Been using the top rated guide (Xcbot or whatever) in-game but that has me building a Vanguard, which strikes me as being kind of a dubious item choice. 2200 gold for an item that falls off pretty quickly. The overall health and regen buffs I get, Spectre is kind of squishy but it just seems like that 2200 gold would be better spent on something else, given whatever your match is throwing at you.
I usually go Wand (most matches I play have ability spam happy opponents), Phases Boots (for chasing or escaping), Vanguard (ehhhhhhhhhh), Diffusal Blade (for the ganks) and usually a Butterfly (up my attack speed and make me harder to hit). If the game goes on for longer, I usually start working on a Heart.
I've started to check out other guides to see some different builds and am seeing Radiance being listed as a core item. One you get before a Diffusal Blade even because it gives your illusions more of a presence in teamfights. I always find the Sacred Relic to be a grind if I'm not rocking a Hand of Midas.
Are there any Spectre guides or builds people would strongly recommend?
