Isn't it kind of hard to use ringers at a LAN?

After watching Anuxi's coaching sessions over at flipsid3tactics, I was curious and decided to check out the other vids they had on there. I haven't watched any of the Dota for dummies stuff but the DOTA101 series by Hector Thagoods Rosario is really informative. Specifically his series on playing mid (Part 1 and Part 2.

The big takeaway I got from that video was the importance of establishing high ground (which I've always understood) and how to establish/re-establish it when you don't have it (basically pushing the lane hard through auto attacks and spells on creeps to re-establish equilibrium when you don't have high ground- which is something I only thought was done through only last hitting and denies). I went into a bot match to practice some of these things but TBH, I couldn't quite reset the creep wave under my tower with the method he used.

One thing that I don't necessarily agree with is his statement that you shouldn't really gank other lanes as mid if you are winning your lane. I figure that it depends more on your hero as opposed to being a rule of thumb. I'm curious what are your thoughts on mid?

Trench level = mute allies, farm mid, don't call missing
Decent level = have supports gank mid early in laning phase, after laning phase you do what you think is best. Rules of thumb are awful - use your brain.

Slark needs no nerf as he's not overly usefuls in higher brackets unless you want to pick a hero who can lane againt Batrider. Gyro on the other hand is just utter BS. His rocket barrage makes it insanely difficult to get close to him early game, his ultimate es well. Flak cannon + Call down carries him into the late game way too well. He's just crazy strong at every point of the game and so easy to use.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Slark is just so utterly swingy, I've had games both with and against Slarks where he either becomes a holy terror or an underfarmed useless hero.

Gyro is almost always annoying to play against. Thank god he has no built in escape

Only played a couple times but I'm terrible lol. What's the best character to use for a noob?
Jakiro is a very straight forward hero in terms of abilities, and would recommend him.

Reason I may advise against using Lich is that with his sacrifice ability, you don't learn how to manage mana properly. Also people expect your ultimate to be thrown at the perfect moment in every team fight and will certainly give you a shit for it if its "wasted" (despite the lower cool down).

For a more offensive hero, Sven is a good pickup. Again, very straight forward and effective mechanics while you learn the ropes.

I have to disagree

Sven is a trash hero for a beginner

Id say Troll Warlord/Anti Mage are way more straight forward. Click things untill they die

Definitely not Troll Warlord, as he has both ranged and melee ability sets that you can toggle between.

Anti-Mage maybe because he's simple, but he's a hard carry that requires tons of farm to be effective. I wouldn't expect a beginner to get any kind of farm out of him in standard play to get the most out of that hero.

I still submit Sven is one of the easier heroes to pick up (I've used him to teach new folks the ropes plenty and they like him).

Hell no,
Troll Warlord requires you to switch stances and use spells at the right time to he effective.
AM needs ton of farm to be effective and requires quick thinking on his ultimate for it to be useful.

Skeleton King only requires you to stun and hit stuff. And you get a free aegis on top.
Viper and Riki are also pubstompers in low brackets. Viper kills most heroes 1on1 and noone buys detection against Riki anyway.
Centaur Warlord is also a pretty good pick since you are not farm dependant and all your spells are pretty strong and easy to use

Man I haven't played since the greeviling, hoping to jump back in soon and join the noobs channel.
Has 6.78 released yet?

Shoutout to Anuxi, you make great stuff!

Freakinchair is worst slark universe

I have seen Chair's Slark sometimes when I'm spectating and I can confirm this.
I would like to call out Anbokr for worst batrider, invoker, qop, centaur, slark in world

What are you talking about? Bokr's Invoker is amazing. He often uses two spells at once and sometimes he'll even break 10 APM.

75% win ez np

I'm of the minimalist school of invoker play. My philosophy is if you're casting more than 2 spells a teamfight your doin it wrong and probably suck, you know? All these wannabe invoker players tryin to shit out spells, but it's the W that counts, u feel me?

Been gravitating towards Spectre lately just because at the level of play I'm in there are a lot of shadow blade dependent heroes, mainly Drow and Sniper, that tend to get free farm in a lane while the teams are fighting or are otherwise occupied elsewhere. They tend to just snowball through uninterrupted farming. If someone does chase them, they usual warp into the tower in front of them and have no true sight, so SB hero just gets away. This pattern repeats until they're fully farmed and it starts looking like gg. With Spectre I love being able to ult, warp in, cast dust, use a Diffusal Blade and kill them in a few right clicks. Also the ability to be farming somewhere in a lane or jungle and then instantly warp in to the middle of a team fight is kind of neat.

Been using the top rated guide (Xcbot or whatever) in-game but that has me building a Vanguard, which strikes me as being kind of a dubious item choice. 2200 gold for an item that falls off pretty quickly. The overall health and regen buffs I get, Spectre is kind of squishy but it just seems like that 2200 gold would be better spent on something else, given whatever your match is throwing at you.

I usually go Wand (most matches I play have ability spam happy opponents), Phases Boots (for chasing or escaping), Vanguard (ehhhhhhhhhh), Diffusal Blade (for the ganks) and usually a Butterfly (up my attack speed and make me harder to hit). If the game goes on for longer, I usually start working on a Heart.

I've started to check out other guides to see some different builds and am seeing Radiance being listed as a core item. One you get before a Diffusal Blade even because it gives your illusions more of a presence in teamfights. I always find the Sacred Relic to be a grind if I'm not rocking a Hand of Midas.

Are there any Spectre guides or builds people would strongly recommend?

The most common item build nowadays is Poor Man's Shield->Phase Boots->Drums->Diffusal, but I could probably justify an argument for Radiance in place of the Diffusal because 1) Haunt and 2) it was buffed again.

Poor Man's Shield/Drums is pretty much the superior Vanguard nowadays on a lot of agi heroes.

Have they added the keys to the wax chests to the store or the treats to modify the TI3 courrier yet. Haven't played in like 3-4 days and will play again tonight.
