Nah that would be like a pro ballplayer joining a local softball team. Putting on a fake mustache, then kicking people in the balls. Pro players should be like beacons of shining light. Someone calls you out, you say sorry brah I'm a pro player.

Waiiiiiiiiiiit a minute.

Game isn't balanced around random draft. You get what you sign up for!

You could say it's not balanced around any other mode either by that logic. Someone can just wait til everyone has hit the play button to pick him in All Pick, do the same thing in Single Draft, pick him last in Captain's Mode (although you can ban him).

The game is balanced around competitive captain's mode games. Not mid-tier pub players who'll find every excuse in the book as to why they lost their lane or why the enemy carry is so farmed or why they were out of position.

game is balanced around CM bro (to a lesser extent AP--i.e. see ursa, sven, PL nerfs). I could see living armor getting a slap on the wrist -1 charge nerf to satisfy the whiners if more and more people keep crying about tree. Icefrog bows to pressure here and there.

Then let me pose this question: Are some (pub) games simply unwinnable from the start? If you are playing Single Draft, and the other team gets completely stacked on their choices, while you are stuck with 25 Crystal Maiden-tier supports/garbage Morphling-tier carries, one would think there is no feasable way to win the game, right?

Reality is deterministic. Whether you win or lose a game has already been preordained.

Nope. But you can be at a severe disadvantage.

Game is balanced around people making the best decisions they can.

Fuck your non-equilibrium outcomes.

Just because you get muted every other day doesn't mean it isn't working appropriately :p

you shouldn't be talkin bro i heard u got shitslammed by the report system as well you convicted dota criminal

just another mark of shame on the scumlord's record

Just what are you trying to say here? That sounds like a quick 25 min win to me.

Went 9-0 as Skywrath Mage earlier, then i died 4 times in a row because of overconfidence/bad positioning and proceeded to lose the game.

Good times.

Besides the rise of Tree and maybe another couple of heroes that are worth a phase 1 ban, Batrider has been getting through a bit more. In turn, VS has shown up slighty more often as a soft counter, particularly after her 6.78 buffs. Would be a nice trend to see continue.

That Crystal Maiden is pretty garbage and usually only serves to feed the other team, usually not amounting to much. How many times have you ever said "gg wp CM!" at the end of a game? That's what I thought.

Sorry, but that's how the dice rolls. The separate modes are there for variety and entertainment, but at the end of the day, the heroes are balanced almost exclusively over Captain's Mode. The very nature of pub games mean the games aren't 100% balanced from a player skill perspective, anyway.

Blizzard didn't balance Brood War over Terran being ownage at Free For All.

It's one of the things you tacitly accept when you tick that "SD/RD/LP/AR" box. Every mode has its share of fucked up lineups, but those are the worst offenders because you don't get the chance to pick up your teammates' slack by making a good choice.

i don't know if i can believe you, convicted dota 2 criminal scum

milkman criminal scum record:
1) abuses batrider orb of venom bug in gaf IH
2) ruins noob giantbomb ih games
3) abuses chen dominate roshan bug
4) abuses bloodstone meepo bug
5) only goes mid in gaf ih against less experienced players
6) favorite heroes pre 6.75: lone druid, broodmother, lycan
7) favorite heroes post 6.75: gyrocopter, alchemist, treant protector, and huskar
8) i quote, "only played pudge a lot because there were no pudge counters at the beginning of dota 2"
9) shoved a mouseball down an autistic kids throat in high school
10) admits it himself and admits he has horrible taste in woman
11) stole procarbine's wow name immediately after procarbine paid $15 to change his name

am i missing anything?

Like the Bastion announcer says

"No one likes to play support, but everyone likes to win"

What if i tell i like being support?
...
When my team actually understands it. (And when they understand i'm still noob, that i'm not quite sure how to do, what to do, when to do.)

You gain creed in my book
Pub warders, unite.

"Warder", someone who babysits another hero or some such?

Wonder how long it will take for me to learn the slang... I remember that when is started playing WoW and EVE Online, the slang was really odd, but i have no idea how long it took for me to learn it.

Warder as in, the one who places wards during the game because the Carry is AFK farming for 30 minutes to rush that Divine Rapier.

Well I guess it says a lot about the nature of this discussion if you think CM is a garbage-tier support. I'd consider myself lucky if I got to pick between 25 CM-tier heroes. It would be 15 max though, if it's single draft.

Ah. Figured that could be the other interpretation (warder: one who places wards)... Not sure why i went with what i said, perhaps because i think i recall it being mentioned that lane support heroes are early-game babysitters?

Most game's CM is in, CM is usually the one to die to First Blood. You're squishy, slow, don't even have a real stun (which is only really good with a Jugg or something) and you definitely won't get any farm in lane. You'll probably die going to place your wards because the other team knows you will be doing it and have free kills.

Fine if that's your experience, but you just can't rationally balance a game based on the assumption that people don't know how to play the heroes. That's never going to be how it works.

Start playing with better CMs.

They are most of the time.
Supports start strong and have an early cutoff in power compared to carries. They can make a difference in the lanes in Early and Mid game. If a support babysits well (And the carry does not have a deathwish) you can tip the balance to your side.

Golden rule of thumb for a pub is to have 2 supports, one in top and one in bottom lane, buying wards to prevent ganks and stacking creep camps to prepare the farm for the carry to reap

Played with a Sven that decided to go Armlet after getting basic boots. 28 minutes in and he had not finished a single item, I shit you not.

I see.

And i'll try to remember that... and even more than that, i'll try to remember to communicate what i'm doing, and why.
I reckon people won't understand what this stuff is (with my luck, this is a likely outcome), or that i fail to communicate (very likely, communication requires multitasking which i'm bad at (and i don't use voice coms with randoms, way too many bad experiences with that, enough that i will never again bother with that). Just my cynic-side talking.

Fuck this bi-polar ass game, I can't take these kinds of swings. They told me to uninstall the game and kill myself in the first game, and then literally sucked my cock in the second. I didn't do anything differently.

Can I get an invite for literal cock suckery?

She brings a lot to the table, you need to acknowledge that the play you see in pubs isn't representative of the hero's potential. Her aura is invaluable and her skills are powerful, you just have to play defensively because of her speed. You can't be nearly as aggressive as you could with something like an SD or Rubick and people don't realize that. The slow speed also amplifies weaknesses in positioning which is probably the biggest problem for intermediate players, so she gets punished really hard for it. Yeah she's gonna die a lot in team fights and is an easier target, but it isn't a solo game.

Has anyone elses Dota store bugged? When I clicked on items nothing came up and now it's blank. Restart didn't fix it :/

WHY WON'T YOU LET ME BUY THINGS VALVE!

Imagine if icefraud buffed CM's movespeed to like, 305, or even 300.

Omg she'd be such a great roamer.

Yeah, everytime I see a pub CM they always feed first blood and die repeatedly because they try to harass far away or max range targets and lose half their health tanking creep damage for 1 right click. You can't do that with CM, you can't aggressively harass or chase, you gotta be tricky/sneaky.

That would make her the most overpowered support in the game. You would never be able to escape from a CM with her root + slow. Her ms is literally her only weakness as a support hero.

edit:
global lane adv./impact? check
root/disable? check
slow? check
nuke? check
aoe ulti with a nuke and an anticarry debuff? check

Everyone clamors for it; but you know by now he's played around with it to know if she'd be too strong with a movespeed buff or is fine the way she is.

Yup. Buy a smoke and give her the extra movespeed to see how well she performs. Just queue up her root from smoke and no one would ever be able to escape.
