day 1!! Aww yiss. I'm assuming day 2 is tuesday and 3 is thursday with release that night

sounds like phoenix and terrorblade for sure. I'm really pumped to check out and play the new map. Did the winter or halloween maps have new towers? because that's totally a new tower in the image.

I'm thinking day 2 tomorrow, day 3 (final) on Tuesday + test client, release on Wednesday

Yay, update! I don't know what any of that stuff means but I'm sure it'll be something.

At least there's a seasonal map! Oh wait, ranked doesn't use seasonal maps. -_-

Interesting!

Not gonna farm forever for presents again. Get's pretty boring. Wraith Night was fun but the grinding for the presents was kind of a turnoff after a few games.

Given that this is only the first day of updates and that there are probably 3 at minimum (2 tomorrow, 3 Tuesday, Test Wednesday, Live Friday) it is interesting that they basically went ahead and got the lore, new mode, and new map out of the way immediately. Assuming further days aren't just detailed breakdowns of the features listed today, it seems inevitable that we're getting new hero(s) and/or 6.80.

Nope, just hats and event. Setting expectations to minimum.

Well, he also had to pay like $10 in shipping, but yeah, Luckboxes still go for a ton, I just don't get it. I guess it must be for people in regions who can't buy the plushes as cheap.

The beastmaster beast from the spring pack is there, so I assume the rest got in too. The fish wards too.

How is that a shitty cheese lineup? Tusk is gaining popularity (sigil is really strong), alch is arguably the strongest support in the game, enchantress has always been solid, Luna has been a top tier carry in 6.79, and Shadow Shaman is also a pretty common pick these days.

I was talking about game 1 with their stupid rosh control lineup. But they are still abusing shadow shaman in game 2 so fuck liquid.

I had a dream last night that for some reason Valve gave IGN an exclusive preview on Phoenix and they posted a video of it. The model was unanimated, except for the head, which the beak moved when it squawked. It did not talk, only squaked. The effects on its spells looked cool though.

Basically just explaining delete an item to maybe get another one. "Such an offering will never go unrewarded" probably means you'll always get something, even if it's just some crafting materials.


There's a new map for regular dota that's all chinese and stuff. Also the title is a not so subtle reference to Phoenix.

I really hope these custom game modes Valve has been making are leading to them releasing to tools to the public. Wraith Night was fun maybe 3 or 4 times and probably wont be anything close to the stuff the community will make.

DotA is the worst game ever

Only lost because the worthless Drow on my team was farming all game so we fought 4v5 every single time

Enemy mirana and sniper got fat as hell

Enemy supports has sheepsticks and bloodstones for days

Im going to go play Battlefield for a month untill this rage leaves me

Without the most recent Valve gamemodes the current custom gamesmodes you have seen wouldn't have been possibly.

So to answer your question yes.

Has Valve commented on how they, generally, feel past events have turned out? Do they approve of the event couriers going to, basically, a handful of pro stacks exploiting a bug/interaction till patched? Did they ever say anything on the seemingly contradictory nature of Diretide's competitive mode and loot incurring cooperative stage?

I'm just curious to see if they're satisfied with current implementations or are looking to refine/possibly even change the approach. Wraith Night seemed like a move in the right direction for cooperative modes, at least, and I guess this week will give some indication on what direction they plan on taking the events.

The fact that they initially didn't plan to release Diretide makes me think they didn't like how it turned out the first time. Wraith night was better as you say and I expect they will keep trying to improve with each attempt. It's extremely hard to make something that is fun for a good while, especially when the main game is just sitting there as an option. Dota took years of refinement to become as good as it is. Releasing the tools to the public will definitely give the best results though, through the sheer weight of creative numbers.
