Honest question: Is this supposed to be like EVE?

Not really, from what I gather. Unfortunately I just don't know in detail.

I never played EVE, but the general community opinion for those who have played both games is that beyond taking place in space, they are pretty different from each other.

They're inconsistent, but that inconsistency makes them interesting. Very reminiscent of the old mouz squad with 1437, kuroky, sing, black and cwm/bamboe.

I don't care for this stats build on PL (if Polar's line-up was less greedy, it seems quite easy to punish), but the boots of travel onto the Beastmaster bird to get early kills is pretty compelling.

Normally, yes, but Asus Polar have nothing to punish the 4-1-1. EE can even use doppelganger offensively without having to worry about the cooldown, because they're always fighting with roar, or tombstone, or egg.

Necro 3 is sure doing work against Morphling.

It's possible. I doubt most pubs will appreciate why he didn't immediately go for Diffusal.
It only makes sense to go this route when you're against a Morphling, Dark Seer, or Shadow Demon.
