DOTA 2 v7.00: New Journey (Test Client Dec 11, Main Client Dec 12)

Everything is too tiny. I misclicked when leveling up and skipped my ult. It's hard to shop. I couldn't find the flying courier. I don't like Treant's new Guise.

The chat is bugged for me it's scrolling to the top constantly so I can't communicate with my teammates. Really annoying.

Yep, this is super annoying. Impossible to use chat at all.

I've lost a game because I'm too confused from the HUD and new map changes.
After 6 years at 2500+ hours.

They've changed way too fucking much at once, for fucks sake.

Played first game with Crystal Maiden, got to level 25, still had to hide from Sniper but helped screw him over in the last fights and we won :)

I feel like though it's possible to end the game faster. Most people will be drooling to get their level 25 and a bunch of items even more than before and that was already a problem to me in my pubs where the carry won't push with us when we could've won so he could farm which drags the game out another 20 minutes and we lose.

My first match was 58 minutes.

The UI is quite a bit better now than it was yesterday. Not perfect, but better. The patch is great overall so far expect for the client crashes that get your entire team killed.

Haha oh my god. Played Monkey King in my 2nd game in new patch. Went 17-2-13.

He is hilariously strong bursty damage with that crit out of no where. Any time you get locked down with any cc though you're pretty screwed. Unless your team saves you of course.

But man won some fights I really shouldn't have with this hero. He's tons of fun. I've also seen mostly bad Monkey Kings, so we'll see how balanced he actually is in time.

Pardon if this has been asked already, but what the hell happened to All Random? My preferred game type of choice and I'm getting queue times of upwards of 30 minutes before I give up. Is the match making broken or is just no one playing it anymore?

Hell, there isn't even any game data for the past 24 hours on Dotabuff:
https://www.dotabuff.com/matches?game_mode=all_random

Has really no one played a single game of All Random in 24 hours? I really want to play again. Is anyone else running into this? :(

"The Icefrog Block" - an alternative view to Dota 7.00 being too crazy.
Take a deep breath and let's use our imaginations for a bit. Bear with me for this. Imagine that video games are houses, all located in this special neighborhood called Funland. People come and visit Funland when they're looking for something fun to play. You see many, many houses as you walk around the hood. You hear faint gunshots in the direction of FPS Lane. You walk a little further, noticing and turning your gaze fondly upon the now decrepit Super Mario Brothers Shack. You ignore the horde of kids walking towards the Riot Mansion, assuming they'd know better once they explored more of the neighborhood. And now you start walking forward towards the familiarly satisfying Dota 2 house. How do you play? Well that's simple, you just walk into the house to play that game. And when you're done, you leave the house. Sweet neighborhood, right?

Despite there being so many different houses, you see everyone keep walking into the Dota house. The gate is always open here. It's been a bastion for a large community of gamers for almost a decade now. It even changed ownership at some point, but the house pretty much stayed the same so nobody cared. Rarely do you see the Dota house empty, or closed for repairs, and you don't even have to pay to enter! You wonder why the hell some people are walking away from Free to Play Terrace. Outside of the terrace, there are bouncers at every gate, selling keys to locked houses for $60 a pop. "Preposterous," you mumble to yourself. Moving onwards, you walk into the packed house, marveling at the sound structure. It looks like there were a lot of people inside, but the house always seems to be growing and there's always room for more. As you step inside, you check out the guest list. You see your friends on it and join them for some Dota games.

After what seems like just a few hours, it's time to go. You've spent the whole day here, and you have other duties to attend to tomorrow. You glance casually at the setting sun as you leave the Dota house. You sense your fleeting envy at your friends who can stay there for a while longer. As you make it home, you wonder to yourself for a second, how come nobody has ever built something as awesome as the Dota house? What's so special about it that keeps drawing everyone back? All the other houses around it have long crumbled into debris, and you muse to yourself, what the hell is that building made of that it eternally weathers the elements, looks so damn new every time you visit, and makes you never want to leave?

Well, this particular building is made of something super special. The Icefrog block®. People keep trying to replicate this house by hiring different contractors to copy the Icefrog block®, but nothing comes close to the original, for Icefrog only works on this one special house. Some evil people have tried to deface the Dota house by spraying graffiti on the wall, but everyone who has visited knows that the real treasure is inside. Some greedy thieves have tried to lure people away by stealing some furniture inside of the house and making it their own, but the furniture loses it lusty sheen as soon as it leaves the Dota house. Damn, this Dota house made of Icefrog blocks® is one of kind! There really is nothing like it. But why is he remodeling when you (and others) were perfectly happy with the layout of the house? Why, Icefrog, why!?

But then you start to realize, Icefrog's house has been undergoing heavy remodeling for some time now! Most people just noticed the flagship announcements of room 700's new Monkey King's Menagerie and a while back, the haunted Abyssal Underlord's Laboratory. But there were many "house-breaking" changes that have been forgotten by now. Some otherworldly-looking spell damage amplification electric blue had been used to paint over the rooms of each Intelligence hero. People thought that would break the house, but now people don't even take a second look at this particular shade of blue. Everyone thought it was crazy when they stocked half the fridges with bottles of bounty water instead of bottles of normal runed water. They were in uproar before even trying it out, and now that empty, heartbroken sadness of opening up empty fridges has been cured, long forgotten in a distant memory. Oh yes, and the introduction of Infused Gumdrops and Octarine S'mores to the shop's snack list. You vividly recall the "THAT'S HOUSEBROKEN!!!" picketing and chanting outside the house as the memory fades. Just a couple years ago, Icefrog installed some unknown foreign model of Aghanim's speakers in most of the rooms. They used to just amp up the good ol' classics, the ultimate hits, but these new Aghanim's speakers only play some fancy avant-garde music that stretches your imagination in unorthodox ways when you listen to it. They don't seem so weird anymore though. At the end of the day, you guess the opening of the Monkey King's Menagerie and the remodeling of the entire house that comes with it isn't so strange. As long as the Dota house is still made of Icefrog blocks®, there's no reason to worry. Besides, every remodeling thus far has only made the Dota house better and better. You comfort yourself with a deep sigh of relief as you finally close your eyes and go to sleep.

7 reasons why patch 7.00 has been awesome for me
I've been seeing lots of negativity on social media about the patch, and I get that it's the whole "loud minority" thing, but still. The patch has been GREAT for me. Let me share:
The game's pacing is fast and fun. As a support player, there’s ALWAYS something to do. Check runes on the even minutes, stack camps on the odd minutes. Roam / gank as per usual, group up to Shrine with teammates. It seems that Core heroes need to fight more instead of just afk farm, since neuts spawning every other minute cuts into their farm rate quite a bit. Less farm more fights
Never need to base. With Shrines now available, I never actually find myself going back to base. Even on very mana dependent heroes, Bounty Hunter for example, I prefer getting Tranquil boots so I can stay out on the map more. Since there’s now 5 runes every 2 minutes, Bottle becomes one of the best items early on since the regen is pretty much guaranteed. Shrine-ing with an ally saves so much time instead of going back to base, it’s great.
It’s very easy to level. Again, just speaking from a Support’s perspective here, I don’t find myself completely under-leveled, even if I die a lot. Part of it is due to all the fights I’m in, part of it is due to me hunting for Bounty runes all the time. I was very worried that I won’t be able to achieve the 15, 20 or 25 talents, but it’s actually very possible. In fact, it’s quite easy for a Support to transition into a core if you plan for it. Most supports have Talents that are extremely suitable for carrying (ie. BH getting +100 dmg and 1sec cd Jinadas), it’s very common that I transitioned from a roaming support to one of our strongest cores.
It’s very easy to get gold. I used to look at my gold constantly to wait for Arcanes upgrade or whatever, now the game feels like apem (easy mode) from Dota1 days where you get more exp/gold per minute. Part of it is due to Bounty Runes, but I feel like this patch rewards you so much more for active play and a fighting style. My girlfriend, who always play the hard 5, ends multiple games with a full inventory without space for tp/wards, and she can’t farm for jack. If you don’t like farming dota, this might be your patch.
Root mechanic is awesome. I used to enjoy playing Crystal Maiden or Treant Protector because I feel hipster playing under-powered heroes. Now Root is a legit disable. I counter-picked Storm with a Crystal Maiden. Think about how silly that would’ve been a patch ago. Storm thought he was hot shit once he got Orchid. I then got Atos and he’s my bitch again.
Monkey King is broken as hell, but I never mind him in my games. If he’s on the enemy side, he makes the game pretty fun because you need to catch him on top of trees. If he’s on my side, Monkey King goes 1-10 but you can see him as a Tree on top of another Tree. I laugh every time. He'll need to be nerfed pretty hard soon, but for now I enjoy his playstyle and what he brings to the game.
Anyways, I see a lot of negativity about UIs and bugs. While I agree that Valve needs to improve/fix these issues, I hope you guys can still enjoy a very exciting new patch. I am having an absolute blast playing heroes I don’t usually play just to see how it feels with the new talent tree, and doing silly shit like doing 5 man jungle invades just to take their starting runes. Hope you guys are enjoying it too!

I'm fine with all/most of the gameplay changes.

New UI is worse than the old one. Lots of information has been rearranged, usually for the worse, and some stuff is still bugged to be missing. (Helllooooo, where are my stats)

Played 2 games last night for the first time in like 6 months. While I look some of the look of the UI, overall I really prefer the older one.

Im not sure, but did they remove user guides completely? Im complete scrub noob and used those to tell me what to buy and what to level next. Why on earth would they get rid of that?

This is how I feel. The balance stuff was fine and pretty cool, but the new UI makes the game incredibly hard to play, and overall kind of ruins the whole patch for me. It's just poorly designed all around.

I'm enjoying Legends of the Dota Storm immensely.

I'm loving the talent tree, it further strengthens the ability of heroes to play as either core or support flexibly, and is just plain more interesting than skilling stat attributes. Big coup as mechanical depth and bang for buck goes.

Haven't played MK yet but I love heroes who interact with map elements (trees and items in this case), and he looks hilarious and novel. If they stripped either of those things from him I'd be really bummed out.

I'm loving the new map, how active it seems to the old one, and how much you benefit if you're active roaming. MK terrain is stunning. Worth the purch.

I'm loving the new HUD also (even with having to relearn how to use it). Scan/Fortify parity is overdue (I actually remember it's there now) and has space for additional team skills, I like the minimalism, I like that it tucks away info I don't need constantly, I like how the level and talent tree are combined into one space, I like it being hooked up to more game states, and I like the sleek sliding in and out as needed for (much more adaptable).

I haven't played DotA in a couple of years, but I think now I'm going to pick it up and re-learn.

I usually support in the safelane. Who are the good safelane supports with 7.00? I've seen some talk about CK being a strong pick, but not much other talk. Is AA viable?

Nah they haven't been removed. I was looking for them myself as I convinced my friend to try the game again after the changes.

There's a little icon in the top left corner of the shop(Think it's top left anyway, could be top right). It'll bring up the guides that already existed. Of course none of them have been updated for 7.00 but some of them are a good starting point for a newbie.

leap doesnt disjoint and cant be used to get out of root

Yes the Root change is going under the radar.

It's going to really mess up heroes that had non blink escape spells that could break out of them before. IE ball lightning, leap etc.

Also Atos being a 2 second root as well now.

Agreed, the root change is huge.
Also a stealth Lone Druid and Crystal Maiden buff.

Only squeezed in two games last night, I like it. Takes a little time getting used to runes and neutrals. Shop feels a bit weirder though. Can't pinpoint it.

New UI is better just because it's smaller. What do people even look at or click in their bottom UI anyway?
I agree, I barely look at those things except at a glance. I don't need it all to be uselessly huge. I'm glad they started this small and then hopefully they add options to scale up for people that want it bigger.

Love the update but it seems unstable. Tons of disconnects and my game has just straight crashed going into teamfights. I was just having a really good Monkey King game but server disconnects ended it and it wasn't my connection. I definitely don't want to go back into ranked like this.

I barely play Dota, but I'm master league in HotS. Now that Dota has talents, does this mean I can be master league in Dota..?

Not really, they are very different games and the talent systems, while similar in concept, are very different in execution. Last time I checked, in HotS talents are taken at certain levels, but this is in addition to a skill point. In Dota, you spend your level on either a talent or skill, but not both in the same level.

My biggest beef with the new UI is that they took away my shop and ability level up hotkeys. I have those things committed to muscle memory, especially the shop. I want to be able to hit F4 > R > 5 to buy boots. The "Shop always uses hotkeys" is still there in settings, but no longer works.
