Thinking about investing in some paid coaching here and there. Not from someone like Purge for $100 an hour but some of the other coaches on websites like dotacoach.org who only charge $10-$20 and have 500 to 2k mmr over him. I mean I know I could keep improving and climb at a consistent rate but I feel like there are more ways to be efficient and not necessarily climb at some abysmal rate at 1mmr gained per match. If the best players in the world can be coached from an objective third party I know my 3k ass could benefit.

I think coaching advice offered to <5k players usually just amounts to "farm better" which you could learn without dropping dosh on someone to tell you that over skype

I don't really feel like advice like that is relevant.

Imagine an experienced fighting game player telling a newbie to spam special moves or overheads because beginner/intermediate players struggle against that kind of play. It'll net you some easy wins early on but you'll hit a hard wall if you haven't practiced confirms, anti-airs, spacing, frame advantage, corner pressure, etc.

Dota is so much more than just picking a core and aiming to win economically and if you get to 5k by just playing a pos 1 or 2 you're going to hit a hard wall as all the 6k and 7k players take that position away from you and expect you to pick more robustly.

I've watched a bit of him and despite his obnoxious manner of speaking and clearly not being a socially adjusted individual his streams are informative. But an hour of speaking to him? haha no thx.

lol I got annihilated by a "1k" player mid once. His solo MMR was actually 1k so I picked Bloodseeker and thought I'd own him even if I was blind-folded (he was Ursa mid). Turns out he either hasn't played ranked in 2 years or bought a low MMR account, because he shit on me in lane to the point where I single-handedly fed the game out of reach for my team.

He did more damage than your entire team. He probably is one of these players you see tanking MMR on purpose to get lower.

Had an alchemist the other night just farmed aghs for the team the entire match with no useful items for himself. He specifically didn't make an aghs for the drow. As we were losing he just said he was glad to see drow take a loss.

I swear there is a hidden ranked down community out there.

* You can no longer random in the last 10 seconds in Unranked or in the final pick per team in Ranked
* Repicking in Unranked now behaves the same as Ranked, giving you a new random hero rather than letting you pick a hero directly
* You will no longer have a chance of receiving the same hero after re-randoming
* Increased report sensitivity (making it more likely that a reported user will go into low priority)

Low Prio here I come

Well I ended up playing for the first time since July. Played 2 and won 2 and have not run into any Pinoys that want to report AU players on the AU server for some reason.

I'm torn on Sombra.

Stealth heroes are cancer.

But I love teleport grenades.

I think it's a wash personally.

I could swear randoming only pulls from a pool of like 20-30 heroes per week

I'll always get the same few dewds within the space of a few days

There was that one time I got Tusk three times in ten randoms that was fucking DUMB

It's funny to see what Blizzard can get away with.

However, their presentation is 10/10 and might be their strongest asset, and has been for as long as I can remember.

edit: this sort of thing should really spark a "it's a copy vs it takes inspiration from" discussion and where a line is drawn. Dota and LoL and the rest of the so-called moba's might be the biggest abusers of this thin line.

In my last two games we were behind 18k and 22k gold and I won both lol. The second game was one of the most unwinnable looking games ever turned around from what I've played.

U gonna @ blizzard for copying in the thread for a game that had to change heroes for being too close a copy of blizzards?????

The point was that half the world copies the other half but whoever controls the communication channels controls the truth, hence why Blizzard (and others) never copy but are always copied from.

And Dota is a special case because it was originally a mod and, obviously, it used assets of the base game. Also, afaik, Valve only changed some heroes names and lore and not because of being sued by Blizzard but because of the possibility it would happen.

You can't however deny that HoN, LoL and the original Dota had at their mechanical core the same exact heroes/champs/whatever. I'm pretty sure 99% of the mobas out there also have some sort of "Frost archer" or "fire mage" or "paladin".

Finally put an SSD in my PC this week and let me tell you guys, if I could find an orifice to stick my dick in that wouldn't lead to immense pain I'd be making sweet love to this machine right now rather than typing this post my god. I might be the last person on earth to join the SSD meta but if anybody else has been holding off just do it already.

Sometimes I just reboot my computer now for funsies.
