Thinking of doing a 2nd play-through and picking up all the dlc. What the general concensus on the dlc? Does it properly wrap up some of the unanswered questions? Do they add a good amount of story to the main game? Does it bring additional features to skyhold or new characters?

So apparently this game is pretty hated on Gaf. Even saying that it is worse than 2.

Wtf? I had a ton of fun with this game even though Origins was my top 10 game of last gen.

It's a great game. The problem is a plurality of the optional content is poorly designed.

I loved it even though it definitely has its weak points with regards to how quest lines are approached. Trespasser alone makes it worth a play. Unwise drinking game idea: take a shot every time DA:I is brought up in a ME thread. You'll be in the hospital in about 10 minutes.

It was ranked #4 in the GOTY poll in 2014, it's just that the people that dislike it are quite...vocal about it. I think a lot more people like it than the other way around.

It had its flaws like any game, for sure but it's still a well made and enjoyable experience overall.

It's a weird game where I think they figured out how to properly design their side-quests late into development. Like... Crestwood, Descent, Hakkon, and Trespasser were improvements on other regions.

Yeah I agree, by JoH I noticed the difference immediately in a more integrated questline sequence.

More people like it than hate it. It's just that people who like it is being silent and not argue with the constant hate because it's pointless. Yeah the game has problems but what game doesn't.

Descent and Hakkon add some good lore but only Trespasser really addresses a lot of the questions brought up by the main game.

For my money Trespasser is the only DLC worth the 15 dollar asking price. Adds a lot to gameplay and story.

Everything from BioWare in a post-Mass Effect 2 world is and will continue to be hated by a very loud minority on GAF.

No new features or characters. (Some new armor/weapons in each though)

Trespasser closes the story and build the foundation for the next game.

Descent get more details of the lore about lyrium.

Jaws of Hakkon is an additional area to kill shit in. I did like the puzzle though. (I wanted more of those in the game)

I liked all of the DLC, but I love the game YMMV.

How did you play your first playthrough?

So I am currently 10 hours in and
chose the Mages mission which sent me 1 year into the future.
I am lvl. 8-9 but I feel like I need stronger weapons already and have no idea how I'm supposed to get them.

My MC is a male Qunari who slams a big ass hammer or sword with 2 hands.

If anyone's looking to do Nightmare on a second playthrough I would definitely take advantage of the golden nug statue in Skyhold and the Emporium. Golden Nug essentially gives you all of the schematics and seeds for herbs you got in your other playthroughs. I was able to craft end-game tiered armour at like level 13.

I know I'm supposed to leave the damn Hinterlands, but I seem to be stuck around level 7 (only my main is level 8) and everything outside seems to be kicking my ass. Actually, a lot of stuff inside the Hinterlands is too.

I dunno why every is always trying to rush people out of the Hinterlands tbh, I kind of like them.

The zones are designed with level gaps. If you're running into content that outlevels you then you should move onto another zone and come back at a more appropriate level.

Bleh game crashed on me
I just got to the castle and spoke with Iron Bull and got to the scene where we hear soldiers talk about my MC
Nothing major but I'm kinda surprised I got a freaking inventory box 15 hours after I started playing :V

Finally picked up the GOTY edition and played through all the DLC. (Played the base game at release.) All of it was excellent; BioWare really does put out top-notch DLC, and it's a steal when you can get it at such a steep discount. Makes me all the more sad that the Mass Effect series never got any GOTY editions.

Also, the credits voiceover in Trespasser was one of the best things BioWare has ever written.

So I've been thinking about Dragon Age a bunch lately and have decided to pick it up again. Since I played a fighter the last time, I'm going for either a Mage or archer. Is there any consensus on which is more 'fun'?

I get that's a pretty subjective opinion, but I got pretty burned out on melee combat during my first play through, and am just going for something different

Depends, I enjoy rogue more when playing with a controller, but I enjoy Mage more on PC with kb/m using tactical mode.

Holy crap, BioWare seems to have added a whole ton of stuff compared to when I first finished DAI.

How's the AI these days? I remember back when I played, the concenssus was to build all your AI rogues as archers because the AI couldn't play DW rogues properly. Is that still the case?

I played DA:I when it first launched and enjoyed it, however I couldn't resist picking up the GOTY edition for $16 on PSN.

My first playthrough was with a Archer Rogue and loved it. Now I would like to play through on Nightmare difficulty. Whats the absolute most powerful (and enjoyable) class? Is it still a Knight Enchanter?

I checked the same thing couple of months back and this was the best answer I found:

Thanks!

Since I have the GOTY edition, I have Trials and am considering the Necro Mage over the KE. Which class did you end up going with?

I played KE the first playthrough (while he was OP as fuck) so I wanted a bit of challenge. Ended up not taking any of the recommended builds here and went with a Dual Wield Tempest which is very fun but also very hard.

No trails though. I'm not that crazy :)

Ok cool.

I assume you agree with this build?

"KE as a fire mage, with ice mine/chilling array + ice armor for defense, not to mention barrier regen"

Yep, that'll work nicely. On nightmare, the challenge is surviving the lower levels until you get all your full arsenal of skills. Make sure to utilize grenades and regen pots.

About 4 hours into my first playthrough, bought deluxe edition on sale. Any tips? Currently just working through quests in hinderlands.

Finally finished my 3rd playthrough. Think I'm more than ready for some Mass Effect now ☺️

Jesus that's dedication.

I bought all the DLC for this, but by the end of the game I was absolutely done and finished with it. I need to back at some point, but its really hard. I loved playing it, but it definitely outstayed it's welcome a bit too much I feel.

Leave the hinterlands.

No joke, its way too big a zone, and completing it will exhaust you and out-level you for the rest of the game.

Okay! Hence the thread title I'm guessing haha. Is there DLC content I should be looking for or don't worry about it?

Also I chose mage and am just leveling up lightning at the moment. Anything else I should be doing or focusing on?

barrier

I also do mind blast in case of close combat

When I have done mage, i usually make him/her a generalist. (spend 3 points in each fire, ice, electricity) ymmv npc mages i make specialists

Is there a way to make the image quality nice in the game on PC? The game gets blurry and pixelated in some scenes. Running everything on Ultra too.

I picked this up on PS4 in one of the sales and played a but last night but the unstable frame rate is annoying me so I'm thinking of getting it on PC.
I have 3570K (OCed to 4.2GHz), 8GB RAM (running at 1642MHz) and a MSI Gaming 970.
Will the experience be much better?

IIRC cutscenes are always 30fps regardless of the version you get but you should be able to nail down 60fps on PC during gameplay depending on what settings you want to use. IMO avoid MSAA and stick with high textures (not ultra or fade-touched). Play with grass settings too. Either way the game should look and play a lot better on PC.

Thanks, I don't mind the cutscenes being at 30, as long as they don't have the dips the PS4 version has.

finally got around to playing Descent DLC(I know revoke my Bioware fan membership) and it was much much better than I had anticipated. I know a lot of people shit all over deep roads content but I love exploring down there in these games.

Recently bought the GOTY edition. I finished the game back in 2014, so I went back in to finish Jaws of Hakkon and the Descent. Finished the former yesterday, was fun but man, the combat in this game is terrible. I turned down the difficulty to Casual because I didn't care anymore, and a lot of enemies still took a beating. :lol

I'll save Trespasser for later, gonna play some Mass Effect now.

Jaws of Hakkon wasn't too bad. I'm playing on Normal, and with Even Ground on I still tear through most enemies.

Had some trouble at one of the final bosses because my mage has ice abilities but a bit of micro-managing solved that.

Trying to finish all the DLC before Andromeda comes out.

Since there isn't really anywhere else to post this, I figured I would put this in here. Mark Darrah, the EP for DA posted some cool shots as teases on Twitter from the red book.

I'll just slip a few things under the radar while everyone is watching Mass Effect...
Concept art (obviously the Lavellan tarot art that's being used to signify the "Elves" section in the book and a couple of the costume concepts are old but the rest is new - at least to us.:
