Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Oh man! DAI was outside of the bubble for "possible favorites of the entire year" in my view... Surprisingly not a lot of hype for this.

But reading the impressions posted on Kotaku have me believing that this is Bioware bringing their A-game once again. A more structured, party based Skyrim would be an excellent return to form.

Preordered!

I'll just come out and say it... I have zero sympathy for people who buy video games when they don't have internet access. (*not* counting military out in the field)

I'll leave it at that.

Not asking for your sympathy for people who buy video games without internet access. I'm asking for the developers and reviewers sympathy for people without internet access. While i have my console connected to the internet i have several friends and family members who do not.

Mmmhh... All these nice reviews kinda make we want to get the game, but at the same time I'm not really enthused at all when watching gameplay videos.

Although, I did kinda feel the same way about DA:O and I ended up liking it so I don't know. I might get it when it's a bit cheaper.

It sounds like some people liked the story! IGN is the only review I have read that says the games story stumbles despite well-written characters.

all reviews mention that the story is not coming together before a villain appears later in the game, but IGN feels this villain is trash and that you don't care about the main plot. Eurogmer also seemed not to be impressed.

But most others seemed to like it - Polygon, Dstroid, Joystiq and a few others. I hope it will be good. I can't imagine spending 80-90 hours if the plot doesn't hook me!

Reviews are great and all but I only really care about AJ and Neogaf's opinions on the game.
Nice to see it's getting good reviews though I am disappointed it's not the "groundbreaking" scores everyone was expecting.

IIRC the idea is that the threat subtly rises so the plot can enter full motion when you've already set up your Inquisition to a respectable level. Makes sense to me, and even if the plot itself isn't extremely good, I'm positive the characters will more than make up for it.

PC Gamer:

Dragon Age II: 94/100
http://www.pcgamer.com/dragon-age-2-review/

Dragon Age III: 87/100

So they think it's worse than DA2.
I juat don't believe pre-release reviews anymore. They're part of the marketing campaign for most AAA releases.

I find unbelievable that so many people still believe in revies even here on GAF.

I didn't expect the Inquisition to get such high reviews.

It's not just military many people have jobs that take them away from consumer internet connection. I work for four months at a time in an area with only expensive satellite internet. I have my portables, pc with steam in offline and a Wii with me. I've toyed with bringing a ps3 or ps4 to play the latest games while im away but figure theres no point with the bugs and I may aswell wait the few months and play it when its all patched up.

I do miss the days when a console game came out and it was expected to be fully functional with minimal bugs as whatever was on the disc was what got played. Now it seems expected a AAA game on release will have a number of bugs patched out on day one and a few others that will be addressed in coming months(Wolfenstien pc still has AMD issues and weird lip sync problems to this day, huge issues that should have been spotted in development)

This just screams greed to me. Firing these games out by their deadline and no later figuring no one will care about some sloppy bugs. How is it ok that the main game has issues that will be patched but they have been working on day one DLC and already developing DLC/Expansions(not necessarily aimed at Inquisition just the state of AAA games in general.)

I'm not happy about it, dev's should be trying to make sure their games are as complete as possible before shipping. 5 - 20GB day one patches is a joke.

I'm surprised, and this makes the game seem even better since they were so down and skeptical on it with their preview.

No, they were sceptical about what was in the beginning of the game (which was all they were allowed to talk about at the time) and their review reflects that in that it's seemingly quite slow in building things up. Everywhere else that Bratt has let slip any impressions regarding the game, they've always been positive.

Hot damn. I hope this isn't another DA2 scenario, because I really want a nice long RPG for the coming winter.

Just out of curiosity discussion sake --

What exactly are the circumstances of these friends/family who do not have Internet at their home... but buy $400 new-gen consoles and $50/$60 brand new games??

After reading about the MP from some of the reviews I'm going to get this on PC instead of PS4. Great scores all around, can't wait! :)

I'm looking forward to the characters, the world, and the stories inside. The main plot is usually just something to put fire under you to move you forward through the game. A reason to bring such interesting characters together and give you a reason to play in the world in the first place. Watching Videogamer and them showing a letter/mission from a old Dragon Age character to send a adviser on at the war table brought a smile to my face. Can't wait to dig into this thing, Pink Bunny endboss or not.

No idea. Never asked them. Pretty sure it's not financial reasons since they all have fairly well paying jobs.

I have a friend which lived where they didn't bring cables, in the countryside (he recently moved, it is his family's home).

There may be a moltitude of reasons for not being able to have a decent internet connection. You people are quick to judge, aren't you?

Phone has all the internet some people really need. Or a single PC hook up since most cable companies and such give them modems with no hub nor set their devices up for them. So one phone, or phone + one computer isn't too strange.

Oh also from around July until last week I was without high speed cable internet. I tried Uverse in Mississippi which was way too slow (700kbps with promise of them getting my area to their standard fast speed soon), I could see myself just getting used to that slow internet. People like to think life is impossible without internet, but we lived without it before, without pausing tv live programs and rewinding it, and without hundreds of channels on tv. It's actually nice in a way.

I can believe that. I live in the city but my area couldn't have cable tv until 5 years ago because they wouldn't lay down the lines and only now have we got fiber broadband at a whooping 5mb...

I just finished my review for Neoseeker, if you wouldn't mind adding it OP: link.

Awesome RPG, but unfortunately the Xbox One version has some technical issues.

So far, the scores are slightly lower than I expected (Dragon Age: Origins reviewed a bit better), but still great overall. Put in my preorder awhile back for the PC version, can't wait.

Damnit. Just when I thought I'd decided between GTA:V remastered and this, I see these positive impressions and I'm right back on the fence.

This is me, I'll be getting an Xbox One bundle soon and I'm trying desperately to decide between the bonus game. GTA5 or this.

I'm leaning more towards DA 3 right now.

What kind of technical issues are you talking about? I'm not sure myself if I should get for my PC

Yup. Limiting myself to one game before Christmas and one discounted game in the psn Christmas sale. What a difficult decision. Want to decide soon so I can preload.

In case any reviewer that have finished the game actually read this message:

Is there any nasty late-game surprises like we had with Mass Effect 3?

I still bear psychological scar from that last nonsensical ending Bioware fooled me with, which none of the reviewers mentioned at the time (or worse, defended Bioware's 'artistic integrity' by ridiculing their readership).

There are FPS drops during cinematic sequences and conversations, and severe pop-in throughout the game. A lot of bugs too, but most of the ones I ran into are getting patched Day so I won't specify. The loading times can be pretty severe as well.

I haven't heard any complaints about the PC version from the other reviews I've read, so I'd recommend that route over the Xbox One.

read a few reviews and I like that the consequences of your 'War Map' and political choices are meaningful, and that the management of it is fun. the world zones also sound pretty big and fun to explore, dragons sound great to hunt, and the acting for both Varian (the dwarf with the xbow from DA2) and Iron Bull (Freddie Prinze Jr) both sound like they're well done (or above average for the game). so i'm satisfied enough that i can go media blackout here on in.

Ugh, any clue if these framerate drops and pop-in is in the PS4 version?

Some of the reviews sound more positive than their score indicates. :(

I think this is more an industry wide thing with reviews. We complained about every game scoring between 85-95 so reviewers have been harsher imho.

If someone writes a long review full of praise and then scores it 80+ you shouldn't be disappointed.
